I purchased this great little egg poacher, read the instructions, water in the cups to the water line, eggs in, made a puncture in the yoke. Set my microwave to the time specified. BOOM! It blew up in the microwave. The egg cover blew off, the eggs were unrecognizable! Do not but this product....

I picked this up, thinking it would be a great way to make poached eggs quickly, without dirtying up a pan. I didn't dirty a pan, but I *did* make a mess of my microwave.I followed the directions to the letter, right down to piercing the egg yolks with a fork so they wouldn't explode. I started with the low end of the recommended cooking time for soft poached eggs - 1 minute, 15 seconds. The eggs were almost completely raw still, so I cooked for 1 more minute and - BOOM - one of the eggs exploded, sending water and half-cooked egg bits all over the inside of the microwave. What's amazing is that the lid to the device stayed firmly attached, but because there's a gap for steam to escape, that's where the water/egg came out.So even after cooking for 2 minutes, 15 ... MoreI picked this up, thinking it would be a great way to make poached eggs quickly, without dirtying up a pan. Complete waste of money (thankfully not much) and time. Back to cooking poached eggs in a pan.

Good quality for the small price. Difficult to estimate cooking time, just have to trial and error each time.

In retrospect, what an absolute hassle. Do wish I had stumbled upon this little gem years ago. With my schedule, I may need to be flying out the door in a moments notice, and this little unit is so simple and the result is AMAZING with simple, SIMPLE DIRECTIONS:Fill yellow base to obvious water line, even if you are only going to prepare one egg.Crack egg (or eggs), with one placed in each side of base. While the literature recommends spearing the egg with a fork, just use a toothpick to put a single puncture into the center of each egg.Place the clear cover over top and apply slight pressure to seat into place. Clear end tabs will engage into yellow base on each end. (If the lid blows off as described in an earlier review, it is most likely because they did not pierce the egg and/or properly secure the lid!)I have an 1100 watt microwave and set my timer on high for 120 seconds for two eggs, and same for even one. (While I like mine a little runny, my husband does not so we both compromise.)You will hear a pop but I personally have never had any damage or "unrecognizable" egg product.Remove from microwave & with lid still secured, invert over sink and drain water through obvious spout. Stand upright for 5 seconds, and then invert again to allow last residual of water to drain.Unclip the end tabs and carefully roll your perfect eggs onto your favorite dish. Season as needed and enjoy! You DO NOT need to monitor or watch, set at lower power level, or put a sentry at the ready to observe.I use that minute to toast and butter my bread.Nor do you need to add oil or butter into the base at any time. The egg residual is minimal and it cleans up in seconds, ready for round two as you can proceed ahead with round two with a simple rinse, and repeat. While searching for additional units online, I did locate an offering by this same company for a 4 egg unit. While the pockets on this tidy 2-egg unit are deeper and the egg product is literally free-floating in the water during cooking stage, the 4-egg poacher cups are of the more traditional shape, i.e., egg will fill entire pocket which can make it more difficult to remove as can happen when using more traditional wares. The round 4-egg unit also does not appear to have the more secure top, nor does it have the pour spouts for water removal. And, I do read that some find the cleanup comparable to my "old way of doin things" with the stovetop pan.I do recognize that each microwave has it's own "personality" and cook times will also vary depending on how soft YOU desire YOUR perfect egg. ALL IN ALL, this is an amazing gift in that, regardless as to how limited my time is, I can have poached eggs on toast in LESS THAN TWO MINUTES!I think this unit is so incredibly easy and time-saving, that it is going to be my GO-TO Stocking Stuffer this year which is why I'm currently on this site. You better get yours before the secret gets out !!!!!
Not bad for a microwave option. Had to do a few trials on the right timing to cook to my liking. Stove top is better but a good quick option when strapped for time.
Well made, snaps together perfectly, heavier plastic than expected, excellent instructions. Saves time. While frying bacon, the eggs are in the micro wave without exploding. I am still experimenting with the timing/power ratio for hard cooked. I still get small eruptions that do cosmetic damage but the eggs stay basically intact. Tried with less water and it quickly boiled all over making a mess in the oven but the eggs were fine. I think I can use my hard cooked egg as hard boiled eggs.
It’s not as good a finished product as the old method using a frying pan with boiling water on the stove. The microwaved eggs shrink and the white is never fully cooked whilst the yoke overcooks. Still edible though.
this egg poacher is awesome for cooking eggs in the microwave. So simple, quick and it makes perfect poached eggs every time. just feel too lying with water, crack eggs into each side, pierce with toothpick (prevents exploding), cover with lid and microwave for 75 seconds. it is made so the water can be drained and the top holds the eggs when flipped. you may need to adjust for your microwave.
This microwave egg cooker is superior to any other I've tried. Easy to use, easy to clean and the eggs come out perfect every time. Best part is no peeling!!! I highly recommend and will be buying more for family and friends. Great for college student.
Yes, they're cute-as! And timing is everything, so have fun slightly adjusting the timing this way and that so you get the purrr-fect poached eggs with your type of microwave. Yummy!!!
