PRS Archon 50 - 50W Amplifier Head

I was always highly impressed by the kemper profiles that I kept finding with this amp’s name on them.. so you know what I did? I bought the Archon because I wanted a simple two channel head for rehearsal. This head delivers both the power I need to soar above the mix and the tone I require for my style of playing. It took a bit of time to adjust to no boost but that was quickly remedied. The global presence and depth controls make dialing in tight rhythms and clean passages a breeze. Enough gain for leads is easily the best thing about this head aside from how affordable it was and the fast shipping.

My answer will be short and sweet, I'm PRS all the was from Se models,core models and amps! Every instrument has always been spot on. Also AMS is a great company to deal with and always provides the best gear!!

Fantastic amp

Overall:Have 2 weeks on mine now, gone through all its paces. I'm 100% happy I did the preorder and got this. It's got characteristics of all the high gain amps out there. It sits right between a mesa rectifier and 5150 in my opinion. Plenty of lowend, plenty of grind. Super balanced sounding gain structure. Every string rings out clear. The presence and depth really help sculpt the last part of your tones. Doesn't get muddy in low tunings, the gain knob is very gradual and usable. The loop noise issue from the mkI archon seems to have been resolved in this iteration. Overall I'm in love with the amp and highly recommend it for people looking for a different flavor than the typical high gain monsters out there that cost an arm and a leg.

Most versatile amp

This was part of a plexi quest for a classic rock it is marketed for metal.. wrong.. it is so much more... I get a very usable clean and crushing crunch. Lots of controls to dial precise sounds fairly quickly and pedal friendly. It has an answers for the ice pick hated from fender and the fizz of a marshall.. give this one a spin.

Perfect blend of a Marshall/Mesa

This amp head is absolutely fantastic. It will sound great in literally any context/style. Incredibly responsive, and dynamic, as well as having a clean channel that sounds like warm crystals, and a dirty channel that has more gain than anyone would ever need. When the power amp is pushed and the gain is backed down, it is very reminiscent of a plexi with just a hint of modern tightness. Push the gain up a little more, and before you know it, you are playing Killswitch, Periphery, and In Flames. What a fantastic amp. Buy it

Really fantastic amp!

I did a lot of research before buying this amp, but didn't actually try it out. Now I have it, I couldn't be more pleased. It's very simple to use, front and back, but with the EQ, presence and depth controls you get a lot of tone control as well.It sounds great either on its own or with a pedalboard. I'd recommend it to pretty much anyone. The only thing it's missing for me is a wattage control for playing at lower volumes. I'm probably going to get an attenuator so I can get the most out of it at home.I'm sure there are amps that can do all this and more in the £1000+ range, but for the price I'm extremely pleased with it.

Classic rock tones to full on new metal are simply there in the turn of a knob. For me the most noticeable feature of the lead channel is the clarity of sound when distorted, once again the amount of EQ control really does allow you to make the most ear penetrating riffs and solos. Talking of solo’s, again in combination with my pedal board this amp really does open a myriad of tonal ecstasy.As you can tell I love this amp. I have been using it now both in the studio and for live performance around London. It’s neat and compact and looks cool too, the different coloured lights add to the aesthetic. not bad, but...

I bought one of these about a month and a half ago, sounded great. During band rehersal I smelled a very faint electrical burning smell. Didnt think much of it until I powered the amp on the next day. Got no sound. Checked fuses and tubes...all were fine. Something overheated in the amp.
