The neck is ever so slightly chunkier than the 60's slim taper, but nowhere near the ballpark of a 50's baseball bat( I love those too). The fit and finish are flawless and this thing feels better than any of the epiphone stuff in it's range. This axe won't kill your bank account with 12 payments and you have something spectacular to play. Let's talk about the understandable issues: A few frets are sharp and a slight edge on the nut needs a smidge of filing. Two of the nut sluts are binding behind the nut. A few slides of a file and problem solved. The tuners are.....well...they work and the buttons look cheap. New tuners are about to be installed with some green vintage buttons. All of these things are to be expected to some degree with all new guitars so I won't let that affect the 5 stars this guitar is going to get. The electronics and pickups put you right in that sweet spot of low output humbuckers. They SCREAM with high gain. Don't worry about that. The inlays and the fretboard are fantastic. So many manufacturers have switched to Laurel of some other variant in lieu of rosewood. Not PRS!! Mind you, this is built by Cort in Indonesia but PRS keeps very tight communication and involvement in the production. Cort built a seperate facility just for the SE line. Watch the youtube videos. Great job PRS and Cort on making a keeper!!!

I'd had my eye on this model for a while and decided to get one while they were still on sale. I have a PRS Swamp Ash Special that impressed me, so I had high hopes for this one. The fit and finish was amazing. My main issue is that, having smaller hands, I found the neck just too chunky for me to be able to play it comfortably. The guitar sounded pretty good, but I didn't find the push/pull tones to vary much like they do on the SAS. The 24.594" scale length is better than the 25" on the SAS, in my opinion. But the lack of a maple top on the McCarty Standard makes the sound rather warm and slightly dark. Perhaps the regular version with the maple cap sounds a little brighter. If you get one, you'll definitely want to replace them with something better. Having said all that, I would definitely consider buying one again if they come out with a model that has a slimmer neck, especially if they are on sale again.

I already exchanged this guitar for the second time for a new model, and both guitars I owned had similar quality issues in the fretboard. Rough finishes around the frets, glue marks over various frets and around the frets, holes around the inlays, this guitar simply does not meet the quality expectations for the 950€ price tag.Everything else on the other hand is pretty good, the guitar looks beautiful with a nice finish and the maple veneer top. It also sounds amazing, with a nice warmth sound ideal for clean tones but can also give very nice overdriven and distorted sounds, off course, these are vintage pick ups so they are not meant for high output like metal sounds. The guitar was set up perfectly from factory with very good playability.

I play all styles of music. As an instructor, I have students of all backgrounds and to keep their interest, I focus on what they like. This guitar does the deed for all styles of rock as well as jazz and blues. It is a great blues and blues-rock axe. It is a beautiful guitar as well. When you hold it, you can feel how well made it is.The only obvious flaw is one fret that was a little rough. I have had it for about two months and I play it more than any other guitar. That's quite a statement for a guitar at this price. The pickups are better than you would expect at this price and a good variety of tones are available with the coil-split capability. PRS Offshore program is on a roll!

Overall:Pleasure to receive my second PRS-SE (first was a 2021 Paul's Special). Was torn between the DGT and this 594. Ultimately went for the shorter scale, and the more vibrant finish. Personally I can't stand "blackback" guitars - they just exhibit a "we took a shortcut" appearance, so opted for the vintage sunburst with the nice woodgrain back and colored headstock. I've owned approx. 15-17 Les Paul's, a significant majority Epiphones in the 8.5-9.0 lb range. This 594, with its scale & neck carve - feels (in a great way) like I've slung a lighter Les Paul Std over my shoulder. The neck carve is stunningly similar to that of a standard "C" Epi (NOT a SlimTaper), and I'm totally good with that - it keeps things familiar. The neck carve is stunningly similar to that of a standard "C" Epi (NOT a SlimTaper), and I'm totally good with that - it keeps things familiar. This PRS came in at what I consider a bit heftier weight for a typical PRS double-cut, at about 8 lbs, or a shade over. Again, which is fine, as I can't stand light guitars. Was hoping I would not get strapped with one of these 7-7.5 pound wimpy things. Weight corelates to TONE, and this SE resonates thick & warm (acoustically), and did not require any additional or corrective setup! Plugged in it will certainly be a beast.Slight CONS that should be realistically not totally unexpected (but can easily be dealt with without whining) - 2 fret ends were noticeably sharp - actually on the burry side, which immediately got my attention. As many others have noted elsewhere, the tuners have a flimsy feel & operation. The Revolution tuning machines are on the way to the rescue! Balance of the PRS is stellar. The sheer value factor on these upper-tier SE's remains pretty solid.

Perfect for a Les Paul Player
17 November 2023

I've been a Les Paul player for 30 years now, and I was ready to add something different to my collection. I'm not a fan of Trem bridges, and I was also looking for a humbucker equipped guitar with a USEABLE coil-split option and a thicker neck.. So my PRS options were limited. I'm mostly a hard rock player, Kyuss, C.O.C., Monster Magnet etc...When an ad for the PRS sale hit my news feed, I figured I'd see if all the PRS Quality rumors were true.Well, they are. This guitar was absolutely flawless out of the box. And I don't use that term lightly, it was actually setup the way I like it too. All I needed to do was to change to my favorite strings. The neck shape is a Gibson players dream, the pickups sound fantastic, and even split, they're very musical. It's staying in tune fine, the nut was cut perfectly and all of the electronics are doing just what they're supposed to do. it's a nimble feeling guitar, but very well balanced. Weighs in at around 8 lbs.I opted for the Charcoal model, and it's freaking beautiful. Plus, it came with a pretty cool gig-bag. Bonus! If this guitar wasn't on sale, I probably wouldn't have given it a second thought. But now that I own it, I can say that it's well worth the full asking price. I really wish I had looked at PRS sooner.I won't be selling my Gibsons anytime soon, but this was a very welcome addition to my small collection.

Review of PRS SE McCarty 594 Singlecut Electric Guitar in Black Gold Burst
21 July 2024

Guitar arrived well packed, action set up perfectly, but guitar had some marks on the back (guessing it was played quite a bit in the store). Very impressed with the quality. Finish on the body is amazing and it's my first PRS guitar! Still in shock that the quality for the price of the guitar that could probably hold its own against a gibson les paul studio or standard. I ordered a set of bare knuckle true grit pickups to install . The tuning pegs feel quite flimsy and cheap but expected for the price and I decided to upgrade the volume and tone control knobs . I found the sound for clean on the PRS 58 pickups were amazing but the dirty tones lacked clarity. Overall a very great product and I'm loving the guitar.

Review of PRS SE McCarty 594 Singlecut Electric Guitar in Faded Blue
21 June 2024

Great instrument, plays well and received from Andertons very well packaged. The setup is perfect; amazing nut and bridge. The sounds are great for a guitar at this price point - the pickups are clear and articulate. The bad things are minor. Pickup selector feels very cheap, two pots are installed at a slight angle and two tuners have travel before the tuner starts winding the strings. You don't get to pick your top, and in hindsight I probably would've gone for the tobacco burst mahogany top and saved myself £100. C'est la vie!

Review of PRS SE McCarty 594 Singlecut Electric Guitar in Vintage Sunburst
28 June 2024

Firstly, I received excellent service from the anderton's sales rep in help with ordering and selecting the right amp and this guitar. In regards to the guitar itself, it has an excellent top on it. The neck shape is a vintage style shape that differs a lot to a PRS custom 22 for example, giving it a more vintage feel when playing. The body has a nice belly cut and the natural curve of the top makes it comfortable for your arm when playing. It is quite a heavy guitar which is to be expected with a Les Paul type guitar but this does contribute to a great clean tone as well as more distorted tone. Overall, very impressed. This is my third PRS and is different to all the other PRS guitars I own, giving it a unique feel.

What Took Me So Long?

Overall:I've been a guitarist for over 30 years now. 95% of my guitars have been Gibson, mostly Les Pauls. I also own several new Epiphone Signature LP's. (the Adam Jones and Jerry Cantrell Wino) PRS had never even crossed my mind before now, but I started getting pop-ups on my phone and started looking into them.I think I had never considered them before because of their tremolo bridges. I prefer a 2-piece Bridge and Tailpiece on my guitars, or maybe even a wrap-tail, so the PRS options were limited. Now, if you're a Les Paul player, you deserve to give one of these 594's a test drive. The scale length and balance are instantly comfortable. The electronics work flawlessly and the pickups are just fantastic. These are actually the first set of split-coils that I've found usable. Especially the Neck pickup, it's very musical. I already prefer these over the Burstbuckers in my Gibson LP Traditional. My McCarty arrived in PERFECT condition, and that's a term I don't use lightly. All I've done is lower the action a hair. The intonation was spot-on straight out of the box. It's staying in tune very well, although I will change the strings to Elixir and condition the fretboard. I will, eventually, add locking tuners, but that's just a personal preference. These stock tuners are working great. The guitar itself is lighter than my les Pauls at a little over 7 lbs. But it's heavy enough to feel substantial. I've never liked guitars that are too light.I ordered the Charcoal version and it looks BEAUTIFUL. Like a much more expensive instrument. The wood grain is highly figured and moves nicely at different angles. Mine arrived early today, on a Sunday, and I'm taking the day off work tomorrow to spend more time with it. This is a pro level instrument, already set up, for the price of a new Epiphone. I can't possibly see how the S2 version is worth twice the cost. The included Gig Bag is also a very nice touch. Now, if you've never considered PRS before, you really should check one of these out. I only wish I had sooner. It's just really, REALLY good.
