I usually do not leave reviews, but I was so impressed by this product that I couldn’t be quiet. After only using cheap shampoos bought at the grocery store for my whole life, my hair got absolutely destroyed even though my hair is not even dyed. I do use the blow dryer and a hair straightener, though, and I knew that my hair needed extra protection of a nice shampoo. My hair just needed help. I decided to start buying different ones until I understood which one works the best for me, and it was the first one I tested (ordered from Pureology). After using it for three months, I absolutely fell in love with it. It made my hair look healthy almost immediately, after just a couple of washes! I was quite impressed! However, this will not be my forever choice. I am very grateful for this shampoo and how healthy my hair looks now, however, funny enough, for some reason, I always thought that my hair is pretty thick. Oh well, over time, after doing a huge research, I realized that I have fine hair. This shampoo was still too heavy for me, and that is why I decided to try out Pureology Hydrate Sheer one I was given as a sample. And omg, it works just as great and makes my hair look gorgeous, but it is lightweight, which makes my hair have an amazing volume. That is why if you have flat and close to fine/fine hair and this specific product did not work for you the best or made your hair super oily, do not give up! Maybe you are just not sure what your hair type is like I did not! Super grateful for this shampoo!

I was not shampooing frequently but decided to shampoo more often (and more vigorously) to hopefully help the situation. Of course it only got worse. I remembered that there might have been some Sephora review warnings when I first purchased it so I checked here and also googled this product plus hair loss and realized others are having the same experience. I wish I would have heeded the original warnings. To spend good money to buy a product people seem to love, only to have it wreck your hair is quite the irony. (Not to mention, what "hydration"?) One person speculated there are two ingredients that causes allergic reactions, and some have said the company ownership might have changed. I have no idea and am mot suggesting it's either - but I definitely wish I'd never purchased. My hair was in great shape and now it's a much thinner rat's nest. Will never use another Pureology product again. I can only hope it grows back.

Like putting Icy Hot on your head
5 June 2024

Not a fan, although it does seem like lots of others like it.You should know that it has an extremely strong smell of essentials oils, which most people love, but they bother me really badly. This, of course, isn't mentioned in the product description. The other "minty" scent is akin to putting Icy Hot on your head. And it WILL leave your neck feeling like that's what you put on it for quite a while after your shower. As far as moisturizing, I didn't find the conditioner to be any more effective than any other deeply moisturizing conditioner in its class. The shampoo, however, does seem more moisturizing than some, but not others.I am reposting this review to the conditioner product as well.

Makes my hair fall out in clumps
3 April 2024

I just bought a second bottle of both the shampoo and condition. It really makes my hair soft and smooth and feels more hydrated... BUT, what I didn't quite make the connection on at first was that it also makes my hair fall out. With the first bottle I definitely had more hair loss in the shower and was a little alarmed, but figured I have dry, brittle hair, which is why I bough this product in the first place. Well, before my order for the second bottle arrived, I went back to using Olaplex (great shampoo, but not really hydrating) and I immediately (like the first use) had almost no hair in the drain. I continued using the Olaplex for the next few weeks even after the Pureology Hydrate shampoo arrived. Same result with minimal hair loss and breakage. I tried once more today and more big clumps again, so I know it's the shampoo. I'll never use it again, which is too bad because it does hydrate the hair, or I should say, the hair I have left.

The more gray hair I get, the harder it is to keep hair moisturized. This is the only shampoo that does NOT make my hair feel like straw. Its soft, full and manageable. Downside.. its very expensive compared to the other higher end salon shampoos. Still it is worth every penny for soft, manageable hair. However, Two things I've noticed since Redkin bought out the Purology brand is that it is not as concentrated and the smell is medicinal. Previously, 1 bottle would last around 9-10 months. Now it only lasts 3-4 months washing 2-3 times per week. Also, it used to smell so beautiful. I would always get compliments on the smell of my hair. Now it smell medicinal and the scent is different from the matching conditioner which smells like tea tree oil. I decided to buy this shampoo after reading all the good reviews. However, I wish I never purchased this shampoo along with the conditioner. For reference, I have long, wavy, low porosity hair. I struggle with an oily scalp, frizziness, dry ends because of my hair type.I used this shampoo ONCE and my hair was ruined. My beautiful waves ended up looking like crumpled paper and ran over. My hair was extremely dry and frizzy, which is upsetting because this shampoo is supposed to be hydrating. I guess not. It also left a thick, sticky residue on my hair. But still, it was just disastrous.A high price tag doesn’t guarantee quality, that’s for sure. The high ratings are shocking to me. I wish I never took the risk. I’ve washed my hair 3 times since then with my regular shampoo and I’m still recovering and dealing with the effects of this awful product.

Ive been using living proof for a while and wanted to try something new. I got these half off during the hair sale. I shampoo around 2-3 times a week and oil my hair weekly. I haven't switched up anything in my haircare routine in a while except for trying these.First it does have a scent to it kind of minty like and it sure feels like it on your scalp. I actually really enjoyed how the shampoo lathered in comparison to living proof! I wish it had my slip to it, but I'm still on the hunt for a thick hydrating conditioner. The only reason I ended up returning was because I was noticing immense hair loss like never before. I was losing so much in the shower, whenever I brushed, or even pulled my hair up. I brought it up to my hair dresser and she said she personally didn't feel like I was shedding more and that with the seasons changing and it's summer it can be normal to shed more than usual, but to keep an eye on it.I looked at the reviews and some stories on Reddit and seems like some people have hair loss with this. My boyfriend bought the travel size to try out and he isn't experiencing hair loss to his knowledge.I would say try it out because every one's hair and scalp is different and can react differently! For some people I know it works wonders and makes their hair look sooo good but personally didn't work for me. I hope this helped for people on the fence :)

stripped hair color - formula change?
31 July 2024

I have a love-hate relationship with Pureology shampoos. I've loved the way they make my hair feel, but really don't like the scent. My hair is thick and wavy, long (~shoulder blade length), and becoming increasingly coarse as I go grey (currently about 40-50%). The underlayer is bleached and dyed with demi-permanent fantasy colors, and the top layer is dyed with demi-permanent natural colors and toned. This is one of the only shampoo and conditioner combos that makes my hair feel truly hydrated and soft. I've loved the way they make my hair feel, but really don't like the scent. My hair is thick and wavy, long (~shoulder blade length), and becoming increasingly coarse as I go grey (currently about 40-50%). Just two washes after a fresh dye job, my hair color looks like it hasn't been touched up in months; it's the kind of performance you'd expect from a clarifying shampoo designed to strip color. Totally unacceptable from a prestige brand product labeled color-safe, and a huge disappointment. It makes me wonder if the formula has changed, because I don't recall this ever being an issue.
