Within a few months of purchase it kept going off for no reason. Usually in the middle of the night. Dangerous as most of my family learnt to ignore it. I was worried there might be something wrong with our house until I looked at all the other reviews online and saw that this is a widespread problem.

My attic has a bunch of mains cables running above the gyproc ceiling, so I attached the baseplate cautiously with the short plastic screw, not metal screws! The alarm unit wouldn't engage with the baseplate, not even at any of the supposed 3 possible starting positions. I noticed the position of the little white kill button didn't correspond to the arrows printed on the back of the unit, nor the illustration in the instruction sheet. Suspect the unit was incorrectly assembled at the factory. Returned it for refund. A pity!

The plastic gyprock screw supplied broke whilst fixing to wall. Ended up using the 3 supplied smaller screws to place plate to wall, and the actual smoke alarm was quite tricky turning it to mount it to the back plate. Anyway it is a good product but why supply a big screw made of plastic?

Suggest look for an alternative - sets off false alarms & when turned off no longer operational, According to Quell customer service it is because of dust or insects & needs general maintenance. It had been in place for less than 6 months
Bought in 2020 and have had two false alarms in the middle of the night because of humidity. Package should warn that it’s not suitable for huge areas of Australia. If you value your sleep do not buy this smoke alarm.
Ive bought a few of these, the others were different models. All have had an issue with false alarms, and failure rates after a few years. I removed a faulty one last week and noticed the small print on the back says " not recommended for operation in humidity higher than 85 percent". Which is almost a daily occurrence in coastal QLD. It doesn't say that on any of the packaging, or that it may not be a suitable product for your location. This explains why they don't last. Product is not fit for purpose in coastal QLD.
I’ve had 2 of these alarms now and they frequently go off at night for no reason. Must be humidity related. Tried cleaning it frequently but doesn’t help. Don’t buy this alarm if you value your sleep!
Detects Rainy Days and cold mornings. A painfully loud ear-splitting noise rips you from your sleep at 2:11am. The 'pause' button will give you another 10 minutes sleep. 40 years of smoke detector technological refinement, smashed with a broom.
Worked for about a week before the alarm started to sound for no reason in the middle of the night. Will be returning it to the store for a refund. This is the 2nd one of these that has had this issue although the first lasted about 2 years (meant to last 10years before replacement is required) .
Worked well for four years, but then it started going off, beeping and lighting the hallway at 2 am I took the fire alarm down, and the beeping stopped. I vacuumed and put it back up the next day; putting it back up activates the smoke alarm. Within 15 mins, the alarm went off again, and I was rather disappointed.
