Ravensburger Castles of Burgundy Game

Great attention to detail. I like how the pieces to the front are lower than the pieces at the back - it makes it much to grab pieces. I also like how the double sided pieces are on one of the board, and the hidden pieces are on the other. The silver and the helper pieces work better for me on the table but everything else works great and I’d highly recommend. It greatly improves the setup time.

The game is set in the Burgundy region of High Medieval France. Each player takes on the role of an aristocrat, originally controlling a small princedom. While playing they aim to build settlements and powerful castles, practice trade along the river, exploit silver mines, and use the knowledge of travelers. At the beginning of each round all players roll their two dice, and the player who is currently first in turn order rolls a goods placement die. A goods tile is made available on the game board according to the roll of the goods die. During each round players take their turns in the current turn order. During his turn, a player may perform any two of the four possible types of actions: 1) take a settlement tile from the numbered depot on the game board corresponding to one of his dice and place it in the staging area on his player board, 2) take a settlement tile from the staging area of his player board to a space on his player board with a number matching one of his dice in the corresponding region for the type of tile and adjacent to a previously placed settlement tile, 3) deliver goods with a number matching one of his dice, or 4) take worker tokens which allow the player to adjust the roll of his dice. In addition to these actions a player may buy a settlement tile from the central depot on the game board and place it in the staging area on his player board. If an action triggers the award of victory points, those points are immediately recorded. Each settlement tile offers a benefit, additional actions, additional money, advancement on the turn order track, more goods tiles, die roll adjustment or victory points. Bonus victory points are awarded for filling a region with settlement tiles. The game ends when the last player finishes his turn of the fifth round of the fifth phase. Victory points are awarded for unused money and workers, and undelivered goods. Bonus victory points from certain settlement tiles are awarded at the end of the game. It’s amazing , buy it !!!

A must-own in every game collection!

Excellent reprint of a classic game. A must-own in every board game collection! Stefan Feld's masterpiece is one of the best board games ever made, and this 2020 reprint has updated artwork for a much more visually appealing experience. It also comes with 10 expansions in the box! I can't recommend this enough!

Alright

Haven't played it but I'm very intrigued to have a dice/tile placement game. Component quality is Ravensburger expected, not too cheap not too great. Some of the punch out cardboard tokens are misaligned but it's not a big deal. I don't understand the reason to give you 6 different manuals, one for each language. It's excessive bulkiness. I think this is a game we will enjoy

Great game for 2-4 players!

I love that this game can be played with just 2 players - love the bonus tiles and different options for gameplay based on the board you choose. The only downside is the print on the tiles is very small - so you need to quickly learn the tiles by looking in the book and viewing the tile images - so you can quickly then play the game knowing what the tile's benefits are.

Some improvements over original, but some things stayed the same

You can add what you want to change up the gameplay.The artwork is better and more intuitive; especially on the main board.The meh:Player boards are still very thinIcons on tiles are very small. Hard to tell what each building does without referring to the rulebookOverall this is an improvement over the original, but I do wish they would have improved the components rather than focusing on just throwing in the expansions.

Great game for board game lovers.High complexity, multi-faceted game, but surprisingly simple to pick up and get into, with easy to understand key principles.Each player has their own dutchy to build, but take the building blocks from a limited communal supply, creating a competitive, but not overly aggressive, game, requiring careful consideration of your own priorities and guessing at other players' strategies.The game finds a good level of randomness; enough to keep you on your feet and prevent one strategy being a clear winner, but not too much that the game is overly luck based.Multiple map choices to vary the game, and lovely artwork.
