That said I'm not a young player, probably one of the oldest. I went into this game because I love Westerns, especially the old Spaghetti Westerns. I wasn't disappointed. The fantastic graphics, sound effects, and music make this worth the money alone if you just want to see and hear the old West. I'll throw it out there.. I DO NOT really enjoy the GTA series. Sure, they are fun to hop around in and wreak havoc on the cities, but really.. just not my bag. I want a little bit more action and adventure and a little less turning a mirror on society. Just not my thing..So, I was REALLY skeptical about liking Red Dead Redemption. Sand-box style questing just wasn't for me I thought..I could not have been more wrong! The gameplay is excellent, with some intense fire-fights, cool "dead-eye" feature and fluid controls once you get the hang of them. I was expecting GTA on a horse, and while there are noticeable similarities, they really went out of their way to make this feel different and like it's own world.Game is beautiful, even though I'm playing it in now 4 ... MoreI'll throw it out there.. This goes into cut-scenes which are really well done, have great voice acting and draw you into the story. The expansiveness of the environment, dangers in the wilderness, side quest, etc. are all very very cool and even mostly through the game like I am now, I didn't ever find anything to be TOO repetitive.Even the mini-games are pretty cool...I've spent a couple of hours just sitting there playing texas hold'em or Five Finger Filet and even the dice game. Sounds odd to play on the console, but it helps you in game if you're good enough and even has some little things you can do in the game that will make it feel more like a.

For me, it feels something like Bully, a Rockstar classic game, except it's in the wild west & no kissing with girls. I struggled early on with the game, couldn't get the hang of riding horses until much later & gun duels I didn't get good at until I read from online forum posts and after I actually finished the main storyline. It's a wonder I could ever get through it.But somehow, I actually enjoyed it and got addicted to it. It's not as strong as Rockstar's main game series, Grand Theft Auto, but it certainly has it's charms despite the flaws. Hunting animals, gathering herbs, bounty hunting, treasure searching and then selling them is the game strongest selling point. Sure, it has storyline that makes you hooked and interesting, unusual characters but that's Rockstar's trademark in just about every game they make. It's the little things that actually shine through this game. Like playing Blackjack, a mini-game available in the game, I actually got addicted to it eventhough I only made a few in-game bucks from it. That's one example. Other things such as the unique encounters made the game feel like you're really in the wild west - it can get annoyingly repetitive sometimes but you can choose to ignore it.And that's only the main game - Undead Nightmare, the included companion single-player game, literally changed the wild west upside down and for me, unfortunately, it wasn't enjoyable. In Undead Nightmare, the wild west is littered with zombies, insane folks and silly jokes.

There is so much to love about this game that I don't know where to start! You assume the role of John Marston, a retired outlaw whose family is abducted by the government and used as a bargaining tool; John can see his family once he kills the remaining members of his former gang. John's quest sends him across the American West (specifically a fictionalized Texas and Mexico) of 1911, where locomotives are nearing their Golden Age, automobiles are just seeing the light of day, horses are the main form of transportation, and lawlessness abounds. Marston is a lovable and complex character who likens his former-self to Robin Hood and his current-self to a simple but honorable husband, though in truth he straddles the line between the good and the bad (and maybe even the ugly when you consider the scars on his hardened face). The characters you encounter are both charming and despicable, and always full of life. You can play as a fearless justice or ravage the land with your cruel deeds; the choice is yours. Horseback-riding is a ton of fun, the visuals, particularly the open plains at sunset, are gorgeous, and the controls are fluid and easy to pick up. The story, gameplay, and exploration will undoubtedly get you.

Good port but inferior to other platforms

I’ll get the obvious question out the way, the game runs smoothly at 30fps. I have had no crashes or frame drops after 30 hours of play time. This game originally released on the PS3 & Xbox 360 in 2010, don’t expect any technical prowess like recent Rockstar titles. This game is 14 years old, it does show its age. However, this is still an ambitious AAA game with a sprawling open world and a compelling story.Due to the Switch’s weaker hardware, there are some graphical cutbacks. Firstly, there is little to no draw distance, and the use of sharpening on low resolution textures looks really muddy in docked mode. RDR1 was arguably my favorite game on the PS3. I just recently completed another playthrough of RDR2 since it had been a few years since I originally played it and it got me yearning for that RDR1 nostalgia. I'm so happy that this game got a refresh because it truly shines better than ever. The game plays effortlessly on the PS5 with a 60 fps frame cap. All the visuals have also been thoroughly reworked and that combined with the smooth frame rate has me rediscovering New Austin again! At first I thought that the $40 price tag was a bit steep for an old game but after having just finished the story again (first time since originally playing it on the PS3), I'd say it is well worth it. Spoiler Alert. After finally completing Red Dead Redemption I have these things to say. Other than a few glitches, there is absolutely nothing wrong with red dead redemption. For a game 10 years old the graphics, music and gameplay isn't even dated which I find amazing. We are just getting started. In this amazing 10/10 story, John meets new people such as the Marshall, Seth, Irish, N.W Dickens and more, John continues to hunt down the gang members and eventually it leads him to Mexico. Mexico was a big part of the story and I was completely blown away by the music, story and gameplay there. Eventually John gets back to America and kills the last member of his gang. The ending half of Red Dead in my honest to god opinion, is the greatest video game ending half in video game history. John returns to his family and everything seems good, and spends quality time with his family, however the game makes the daring decision to kill Marston, yet somehow, they pull it off perfectly. Even for a game that is ten years old, online mode is still active and booming with fun. Hunting and shooting mechanics are flawless. The graphics for its age are again, amazing. The game excels at putting you in Johns shoes and making you feel like you are really there, in 1911. Even for a game that is ten years old, I found myself playing it more than every new game I have on my console. Rockstar games made a masterpiece, and I got it for ten dollars yet it beats games I've spent 100 dollars on. Strongly recommended for everyone. Warning you might cry.
