Ring Black Floodlight Cam Wired Plus

Very happy with the camera. I bought two and a Ring spotlight camera to cover the front, side and rear of my home following a recent burglary. Easy to install. Just removed old flood lights and wired in Ring devices. All necessary fixings included. Camera has a useful hook to hang it from the backplate whilst wiring it in. Ring App easy to use and intuitive. Cameras can be linked up to activate all if one is triggered. I selected different sounds for alerts from each camera so I know immediately which has been triggered. Also like the fact that alerts go to my Apple Watch with a thumbnail image. Handy, if I’ve silenced alerts on iPhone or iPad. Being able to block out detection of specific areas is useful. My neighbour kept triggering one camera whenever he went into part of his garden near my house. I have reduced the sensitivity of detection to person only but the cameras are still triggered by large birds, flocks of birds and larger animals. Boiler flue gases also trigger the cameras when they drift past, even though they are some distance away. My milkman must wear a cloak of invisibility because it never seems to pick him up on his early morning delivery! Image quality is good but reading a number plate beyond 10-15m from camera in daylight is difficult and at night reflection from the number plate can make them unreadable. Siren is not very loud but enough to frighten off unwanted visitors if detected. Also, I would be able to set off sirens on all three cameras together for extra effect. Ability to speak to a visitor also handy. Was able to thank my neighbour for putting out the bins while we were away!

EASILY BREACHED not secure

I bought Ring security system believing it would make my home secure. Was I ever surprised when my car was breached by a thief when my car was parked 10 feet from my camera. When I went to review incidents on my app, I was shocked to find no video while my car was looted. the camera was working because I saw the milkman making his delivery a couple hours earlier. I called Ring and theywere appogetic that the camera did not capture the incident. What they didn't tell me was (which Ifound out later) was that the thief used a WI-FI scrambler while stealing from my car 10 feetfrom my camera. To be fir to Ring, any security system that uses WI-FI is vulnerable to these scramblers. And to rub salt in my wound, Amazon who owns Ring sells these scramblers online. OUCH!!!

Eave mount makes shroud a scoop - poor design

I was upgrading my gen 1 floodlight cam to this gen 2 plus model. There is a serious design flaw vs the prior generation. If you mount under an eave the shroud is upside down. This looks awful. on the Gen 1 you could orient things correctly, but they took that away for this version.You can see the old one and the new one in my attached photos. The light positions on the new one show how the shroud is upside down when you aim it forward. If the shroud is correctly oriented, it will only rotate to that 90 degree position.In the old ones you could loosen the nut and move it all the way forward. Lacks basic functionality without subscription

Disappointed with the lack of ability to save and view videos without the Ring Protect subscription. The description makes the subscription sound like a premium add-on that does not affect basic functionality. Saving videos is a basic feature that most basic users would require, so it is extremely frustrating to find out only after purchasing that the basic features are locked behind a pay wall afyer the 30day free trial of Ring Protect ends. If live feed is all it offers it is a terrible choice for a camera because there is a significant lag time when you open the app to view the live feed and you could miss the action by the time the image loads. Would never recommend Ring to anyone. Lots of options when it comes to video doorbells, cameras, etc. I think I looked at everything available before deciding to go with Ring. Price wise, there were lesser priced units and certainly lots of higher ones. Ring has a great infrastructure with an easy to use interface and reasonable monthly/annual fee. I’ve read many reviews saying the $10 per month ($100 annual) fee is a rip off and no way I’d pay, etc. keep in mind, internal hard drives are expensive. I know and have them in my SAN device already. Failure rate has been averaging one per year at around $200 per year. Ring is way less and more convenient.Variety of battery, power, solar options too which still allows for all systems to be connected to the same interface. I was concerned for WiFi signal strength, but all have been working well, and I only have a single router/WiFi unit in the middle of a 300sqft home and connectivity is better than 60% on all cameras.Ring also has what’s called curbside, which allows the camera to send alerts and videos using a neighbor’s curbside system if your WiFi is down. Curbside is a low level channel proprietary signal that can be turned on or off (opt in/out).Lots of great options, so Ring won for us. Love the flood and spot cams we have too. Ring bridge and bulbs have also been performing well. No complaints. The only thing which may have steered me in a different direction would have been if I had the cabling to go PoE. That would have been ideal, but with that limitation, WiFi was my only option.

Mixed bag

Bought 3 of these items. The biggest obstacle was deciding how to make needed revisions from the old rectangular electrical box to the needed 4 inch round electrical box to install these cameras. I had removed existing exterior lights and installed them at the same locations. 2 of the 3 locations were lower 61/2 ft versus the 8 or 9 feet that I would have preferred. Two are now working and I continue to make adjustments in the settings to minimize unnecessary notifications. Quality of pictures and videos (night and day) are better than I expected. Bright lights and sounds are very good. Parts included for installation are good and once you resolve the electrical box issue, installation is a breeze. Much more limited than it needs to be

Subscription Required to Record Video

Good camera overall, video quality is good and has 2-way talk and alarm funtions. Simple installation by electrician - needs power only, connects via WiFi. Lights work well and human motion detection seems accurate. App features are good but if you want to be able to record and replay motion activation events then thats a yearly subscription. Basic free features are motion notification and live view only so if you don't check immediately you will have no idea who set off the notification. No option to record 24/7 to the cloud or locally. You need good WiFi connection. Good choice if you want to swap out an existing floodlight. Would be more stars without subscription model.

Installation was relatively easy with basic electrical knowledge, i.e. ability to connect wires same as they powered the previous light fixture with power turned off. Optioning the sensitivity settings and defining the areas to be monitored were also easily done with the Ring app. Wish I could have installed one of them lower above our side entry garage, but it needed to be up around 15’ where the old fixture was. As such it would be difficult to see someone’s face in the videos, but you still get a warning and video record of someone, or car, entering the surveillance zone. Ring app works well and I can see all four cameras on one screen and can click on any one of them for video history. However, haven’t yet subscribed to the Ring Protect service since I’m still within the free 30 day trial period. My understanding is that $100 per year would cover all four of my cameras. I also have a whole house monitored security system.

Installation was not too difficult. Be careful of the direction of the unit because we installed it upsides down the first time. (not as obvious as you would think). So far is it working well. I was worried it would alert every time dogs/cats and squirrels cross their paths, but fortunately, it does happen very often.The only reason for taking off a star is because we now have 3 ring products, including a Ring doorbell, and the "Chime" in the house cannot be set to different tones to let you know which of the 3 Ring items has alerted.
