(57 reviews)

The SMR is a revolutionary shock mount for large diaphragm condenser microphones from RØDE. Featuring a unique double-Lyre suspension system, the SMR enhances the existing superior vibration cancellation of Rycote’s Lyre system by using a smaller inner Lyre to act as a tensioning element. This maintains each Lyre in the neutral position where it is most efficient at cancelling vibration. The SMR's removable all-metal pop filter is as effective as it is visually striking, providing an integrated solution for plosive protection that is easily washable and designed to last as long as the shock mount and microphone. The clamping system of the SMR utilises a greater surface area for increased friction and weight handling, without the need for over-tightening of the locking thread. With the load distributed over a greater surface area, the clamping system is virtually immune to the wear and tear of repeated use. The SMR's frame is constructed from an engineering grade reinforced polymer, typically only seen in high-load applications such as safety equipment, automotive components, and military artillery. Vibration force is evenly distributed around the outer frame via the wide mounting rails, increasing the effectiveness of the Lyre system. Efficient and well-considered cable-management completes the package. A base nut is also included, suitable for all compatible RØDE microphones.

Although the design is good it had one flaw

A big one, in using this with a Rode NT1A the "pocket" which the mic sits on is not quite deep enough. 80/1000th of a inch off (We measured) which does not allow for the included retaining nut to be started on the Mic's thread. 2 potential fixes, one being a slight cut into the pocket to allow the thread to be exposed, or a custom nut which is the best fix but about $60 to have custom made.

Difficult to use with NT-USB

This is the recommended shock mount (according to Rode's website) for the Rode NT-USB. That's why I bought it. Here's the thing, if you use the mixer knob a lot (the one on the mic that mixes your headphones between mic input and computer signal) you will be as frustrated as I was. That particular knob is almost completely inaccessible behind the suspension system. The knob itself is also hard plastic, so it's not easy to get a grip on what little you can reach with your fingertips. I ended up making it usable again with some large O-rings to give the knob a little traction. When I wrote to Rode to ask them if there was a better solution they replied with, That's the way it's designed. Well... yeah. I knew that. I'm looking at it. Let's just say I found their reply ... MoreThis is the recommended shock mount (according to Rode's website) for the Rode NT-USB. That's why I bought it. As far as dampening vibration it also seems to work well. But for you NT-USB owners (or other Rode mics with knobs) - you have been warned.

I spent many days looking for and thinking about how I wanted to get my audio set up going.Mic with xlr and amp, Is it necessary, value for money vs performance and after much research I settled on the NT1 from Rode.Seriously a decision I do not regret. The built in sound card on the mic allowing you to connect your headphones directly to it to hear unfiltered mic sounds, just epic.Volume for mic and headphones on the mic, epic again.and its USB, no hassle of balanced unbalanced, or XLR to amp with power etc.It quite literally is Plug and Play.Exceptional sound even if your not speaking right into the mic.I have done many conference calls where the mic has been a half meter to one meter away from me and the sound has been cristal clear with out the humming ... MoreI spent many days looking for and thinking about how I wanted to get my audio set up going.Mic with xlr and amp, Is it necessary, value for money vs performance and after much research I settled on the NT1 from Rode.Seriously a decision I do not regret. Fixed pop filter makes it less useful
7 September 2021

The pop filter is fixed - so unless your stand is in a line straight in front of you - rather than to the side like mine - then the supplied pop filter is useless and you need another shield like the WS-LAV or one of the skins.Save your money - buy the PSM1 instead and buy a pop filter for the same money as this.

Great Product
26 April 2018

Good build quality, includes the locking nut to fix the microphone, included pop filter is great. No complaints at all.I'm using it with the Rode NT-USB and it will stand on the tripod included with that microphone but is likely to overbalance if it's bumped or moved.

Great Rycote Shock Mount
10 January 2023

Really great Rycote shock mount for my RDE NT1 microphone. It's does a great job keeping desk dumps and other noises from getting to the mic. I would highly recommend it over the shock mount that comes with the RDE NT1 and NT1-A

Great after sales from RODE
5 February 2018

Initial purchase experience was perfect. After sales, even better from RODE. The metal pop shield was dented (due to a mic stand accident shortly after purchase). I called Rode. They agreed to send out a new pop filter, at no charge. No questions asked. Great all round experience.

RODE SMR PREMIUM RODE NTI SHOCK MOUNT
3 March 2014

Overall:I Bought it for my RODE NTK TUBE MIC, It's and excellent perfect shock mount for it. It is quality made and stable for the NTK which is a heavy built mic. It also has a durable, washable metal pop screen, that is awesome and easy to adjust. If you own an NTK or a heavy condenser mic, this is a must to own.

Rode SM2 Shock Mount Shockingly Useable
7 March 2020

Overall:Love my Rode NT1A but always mystified by the elastic basket and strings and little hooks where the strings were anchored on the old shock mount. If you have tried to restring one of these babies you will know the joy of using the new one, the SM2. Dead easy and a big improvement as far as shock mounts go. Much easier to set up now and the pop filter is also great.

Rode SMR Shockmount!!
12 July 2016

Could not be simpler to use. Works great. No more web suspension coming undone, because there isn't any to begin with! It feels solid and works like it should. I'm using a JZ Microphones pop screen, so I have no opinion on the one that comes with the shockmount. I'm very happy.
