I’ve just returned the second copy of this lens I’ve tried. I purchased Rokinon 14mm F/2.8-MFT for my Olympus OMD EM 1 MARK II exclusively for night sky photography based on Rokinon reviews in general and the review of a B&H customer for this application. I shoot with manual focus and manual shutter control. Lens performance was terrible. Stars across the ENTIRE field looked like comets, shaped like incandescent light bulbs, all oriented in the same direction. Focus was by live view using my camera’s “magnify” function plus a 10x loop. No focus adjustment could make the stars look sharp and round. The stars on the computer looked exactly as the stars had looked on the back of the camera. Coma across the entire field. My other lenses shoot stars as points. There may ... There may have been a bad production run of this lens, some incompatibility exists between Olympus OMD EM1 II and the Rokinon mount or both lenses I got were damaged in the same way in shipping. My husbands Canon mount shoots stars sharply. Time to try something else.

The Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 has high resolution even wide open and is very sharp corner to corner by f/4.5. Color rendition is well balanced and provides excellent contrast. It's solid and feels like a quality lens in every way. The review stating it will not work on a R series camera is obviously in not correct. I've used this lens on a R, RP and R5 with absolutely no issues. The electronic aperture control works and the camera recognizes the lens settings You do, of course need to set the camera to release shutter with no lens to allow operation with any non-Canon manual lens. The only minor negative is that you can't easily attach a filter to the front of the lens. The include, attache lens hood does provide some minimal protection to the lens however.

Got the lens and was exited to try it out as I have read many great reviews on this lens and I have seen many great pictures taken with this lens. Upon opening the package the lens feels solidly built, focus was smooth and the construction felt solid. No loose parts or anything like that with good packaging. Attaching lens to Nikon D610 was nice, connection was not too lose or tight, very easy to put on and off. Beautifully crafted lens with solid mechanical construction upon first handling the lens. For Nikon the lens has an AE chip so it gets focus confirm, auto exposure, auto metering, and auto white balance. When manually focusing I would see the image becoming sharp but would hit the end of the focus ring range with what looked like just right before the picture went into sharp focus. Focus on close objects 10 feet or closer was sharp however past that the focus seemed to never become sharp. I am currently in the process of exchanging it for the exact same items as the lens was solid, but I have read about people getting bad lens and some getting great sharp lens. Hoping to get a lens that can focus sharp at infinity. Going through the exchange process is a pain and annoying but hoping B&H makes the process easy, first time returning/exchanging an item. Will update once I get replacement lens.

I purchased this lens primarily for astrophotography and landscape photography after reading positive reviews for the lens in those applications. After using it on a couple weekend shoots I feel it is the only way to get into an ultra wide angle lens under $500.As has been noted, there is some barrel distortion, and since the lens doesn't communicate metadata with the camera, you must import a custom lens profile for lens corrections in LR/PS.I really don't use the camera for shooting straight lines, and thus don't worry too much about the distortion. I did note there is some softness in the edges at max aperture, which gets better toward f8.Finally, as reviews have noted, the coma control is excellent, and is likely as good or better than higher end ultra ... I did note there is some softness in the edges at max aperture, which gets better toward f8.Finally, as reviews have noted, the coma control is excellent, and is likely as good or better than higher end ultra wides, which is what makes this a great lens for astrophotography. In summary, if you are shooting astrophotography or landscapes I would recommend this lens even in addition to higher end variables, but if you are a professional photographer doing interior or architectural photos, I would perhaps spend the money on a variable focal length AF-S ultrawide for versatility and ease of barrel distortion correction in post processing.
I tried the the Rokinon 14mm on my Pentax K-1. It works well once you figure out how to use it via the vague instructions from both Rokinon and Pentax (their mysterious green button). The Rokinon is vague and it does not tell you that their lens will definitely not come off the camera unless you unlock its aperture ring from the A setting. The instruction manual mentions this situation, but it does not mention what the solution is, it suggests other things. I had to figure it out by trial and error. It scared the daylights out of me thinking that I would have a fixed-lens Pentax K-1! When I tried to register the lens at the Rokinon product registration webpage, it came back with an error Whoops, it looks like something went wrong, after I clicked to send the ... When I tried to contact Rokinon about the product registration problem via their webpage, I got a recaptcha fail 2 error after clicking on [send]. The bottom line is that their support is only a facade. They will sell you the product but after that their product is your problem. Too bad because the lens does seem to take relatively sharp photos with no chromatic aberration.
I purchased this lens specifically for the reputation is has for sharp astro-landscape photographs at f2.8, but returned it for the reasons listed below. For me the deal breaker was #5 and the reason I opted to return the lens for credit instead of exchanging it in hopes of getting a better build. I gave this lens 1 star, which in no way reflects on B&H. If there was a separate rating for B&H I would have given them 5 stars for their stellar service and the opportunity to try the lens.1 - After receiving the lens I soon learned that focus at infinity was not accurate. Instead of the vertical L-shaped mark on the distance scale that is appx 5/16" from dead stop, infinity focus was actually at the 10 foot mark appx 5/8" from dead stop. There is a user fix for this ... MoreI purchased this lens specifically for the reputation is has for sharp astro-landscape photographs at f2.8, but returned it for the reasons listed below. There is a user fix for this but it voids the warranty.2 - This lens was the chipped version that allows me to use the focus confirmation feature of my Nikon D800E. I found that feature relatively useless for accurate focusing since it shows in-focus for such a broad range on the distance scale. That is, once focus is acquired you can keep turning the focus ring and it continues to display in-focus for quite some time before eventually indicating out of focus. IMO the best reason for getting the chipped version with my camera is that it automatically displays the Rokinon lens data in the camera EXIF information without having to set up a custom lens in the camera's settings.3 - Using test images and not the focus confirmation feature, the actual focus point changes depending on which direction the focus ring is being turned. Turning the ring from the infinity end produces a different focus point on the distance scale than turning the ring from the minimum distance end.4 - I tested the lens at f2.8 with my camera on a tripod and found the lower left quadrant of the horizontal frame to be somewhat softer than the right side. Apparently this particular lens suffers from the decentering issue known to be present in some builds.5 - I suspect the reputation this lens has for sharpness is largely based on images meant to be viewed on-screen, on the web, or on small prints. I didn't think the overall image quality was good enough to produce large prints sharp enough to be viewed up close. Perhaps I'm just used to using quality Nikon glass, but despite its reputation for sharp images I found this lens to be softer than expected.
I bought this lens for landscape photography, particularly time lapses. Didnt need autofocus so I saved about $300 compared to the autofocus version of this lens. I was primarily concerned about clarity of images. Out of the box I was pleased with how solid the lens felt - build-quality feels very good. For the clarity test I mounted on a tripod and used remote shutter release to eliminate any variable of camera shake (shooting with Sony A7Sii).For my test shots I used f2.8, 5.6, and 11. For focusing, it was impossible to gauge fine focusing through the viewfinder or by looking at the screen, so I tried three positions on the focus ring - hard stop infinity, 10 ft., and halfway between those positions.I was able to get very clear images at f5.6 and above, with ... On my Sony lenses, hard stop infinity is never in focus, you have to back it off a bit to have distant objects in focus. It is the same with this Rokinon - you must back off hard stop infinity to get the clearest landscape image.Clarity at f2.8 was only marginally acceptable around the edges, and there was noticeable vignetting. One of the reviewers mentioned this lens lives well in the f5.6 range - after seeing my results I concur.Ive uploaded a couple test pics. Look at the fireplace to see the difference in clarity, and I hope you can see the vignetting in the f2.8 photo.Bottom line, the lens will work out great for my needs, and at a fraction of the cost of pricier lenses.
I am pleasantly surprised with the quality image from this lens. I reviewed it with the canon EF 14mm f2/8 is ii and I was a little sceptical when the review had stated that the rokinon was better in various areas of an image. Especially with such a price difference. Well I'm very happy with its performance. The only drawback is the manual focus is rather long to get from shallow to long distance. I should have spent the extra 200 to get the auto focus. All my other lenses are EF L SERIES CANONS, I will be venturing out to see what other lenses have to offer. Thank you B&H for your longtime service to me I appreciate your knowledgeable staff when ever I make a purchase. I feel very confident with their recommendations. There are a lot of complaints regarding the inconsistent sharpness of this lens ( from lens to lens ) so I was fully prepared to exchange it. My copy seems perfect. I did a very simple test using the back wall of the studio and some junk that lives there.Images: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/9kv6ysernjce4a7/AADUpqTZLadYxGtYVsq-dchaa?dl=0- Sharp at f/2.8 through f/11. f/16 and f/22 suffer some loss of sharpness due to diffraction. Honestly, though...for $400 I'm not complaining- Vignetting at f/2.8 is pretty significant but is gone at f/8- Considerable distortion that the current Lr lens profile doesn't do a great job of correcting**Lens flare at f/11 was my fault :P
I purchased this lens used back in 2016 for my Nikon D5200 (its 21mm on a crop sensor camera). I can't believe I can't believe how much time has gone by.. I primarily use this for milky way and nightscape photography. The 1st time I took it out I was amazed at the results from light polluted Houston. I thought there was no way I'd capture the milky way from my backyard. Lo and behold there it was. The darkest skies I've been able to use this in as Bortle 4. Any time I go out at night this lens is definitely in my bag and 1st one on the camera. I'll attach some photos please forgive my lack of editing skills. If you're looking for a cost effective lens that won't break the bank I would definitely get one of these.Shot at F2.8 25 sec, and if memory serves iso 3200
