I received this rubik's cube and gave it to my daughter. Initially she was very excited but after a while was disinterested as the colours vanish unless you touch it. Unless someone is super into solving these cubes and want to try to up the difficulty level, i would not recommend anyone tp buy it. A super enthusiastic might enjoy it but my daughter didn't like it much. Will pass it to my husband may be he can try his hands on this one. Suitable for all ages above 8.

Well... you touch it and the colors come to LIFE! It is pretty much a race against time and warmth to solve it. Definitely raises the difficult level and brings on the challenge 100%. Hubby and I struggle with completing it but it is super fun. Its even more entertaining because we have our ac on here in Canada due to the scorcher summers and it holds the phantom black colour when cold adding the difficulty to another level. Sorry Rubiks, I love your products. I'm a huge fan of twisty puzzles and i own dozens. This is a 3x3 with stickers that are heat sensitive. Scramble it then hold each side between your palms and the heat reveals the stickers. Repeat for the other 2 pairs of sides. If you know how to solve already, you will likely solve it before they darken back up again, or maybe you may need to warm them again once or twice. Looks good in the collection in its all black state, and I appreciate the idea but it would be more of a challenge if the stickers didnt take so long to change back. If you don't know how to solve one, get a normal 3x3. If you're a collector you might want one just to have it, otherwise there really isn't much additional challenge to this one. We loved having the opportunity to try out the new Rubik's Phantom Cube. At first I thought it was defective because it was supposed to be black and when you touch it your body heat warms the cube and the color appears. Mine looked like an original Rubik's cube. Then I realized it was a very hot day and it sat in the mail box for a little bit.I tossed it in the freezer for a bit and it turned black. This toy will be an awesome winter game. I bought 2 as gifts, it was certainly unique. My adult son is brilliant at solving rubix cubes. So thought I'd give him one that might not be as easy.He loves it that much, he takes it everywhere with him. He enjoys the challenge. Even tries to teach me how to solve the cube. It's like his security blanket.The other recipient i night it for loves it too. Well worth the money.
When I first saw this I was super excited and was expecting the "phantom" aspect to be more like the old rub Transformers stickers. After buying one at Target and cracking it open then scrambling it I was ready to start... except by the time it was scrambled all of the colors were as vibrant as a regular three by three. So it took me my average time to solve the cube, then after I put it down it went back to the blackish color pretty quickly. If you want all of the enjoyment factor for this cube, it's better to have cold hands. Still, a neat cube.

My kids got excited when I told them we're getting a free rubiks game. They can't wait to play with it when we got it. At first we are wondering why its not black as shown in the picture. there's no clear instructions how it the thermochromatic effect works. Its not changing color even when we're holding it. We thought to try to put it inside the freezer for a bit to see if it will change, and so thats how we found out how. Im so amazed with it changing colors as we touch it. really fun and challenging. A really amazing twist on solving the cube. Just 4 stars because it needs to stay cold for it to stay black and that means putting it in the freezer frequently.
