Better than the older model

As per my title, this model works better than the older version n works a treat on smaller branches. It's time consuming to use so cups of tea or a beer helps to move things along.Seems to accept branches n pull through better than the older unit of this model.Still noisey to use so earmuffs are necessary to be safe. Good machine but garden stuff that's dry is the way to go. Green waste may clog easily. Enjoy l

Works very well for the price. Would go through whatever garden waste I could fit in the holes. It would jam on the larger branches from time to time but it's easy enough to clear and keep going. Before you start, please undo the blade bolts which are done up way too tight from factory, CRC them and do them back up. Otherwise when it comes to changing the blade, you won't get the bolts out. I ended up reaming the bolts on 3 out of 4 using the tools they provided and ended up having to get a replacement.Other than that, it's cheap for what it is, performs well enough. I can recommend it.

Disappointed with poor performance

I purchased a Ryobi 2400watt Impact Shredder from Bunnings yesterday and I am really disappointed with the features and performance. The machine is advertised as a mulcher / shredder. There is no provision to feed small items such as leaves etc via a 'funnel'.I used the machine to 'mulch' trimmings from two bushes. I had removed any larger type branches greater than 20mm before proceeding to mulch. I got barely 1/2 a container of mulch before it started 'smoking' which turned out to be steam. On investigation I found the exit point channels (which are mostly hidden from view) were full of caked up / solid 'mulch'. It took some time and effort to remove to material.

Fantastic Value

Great value. I had been reading alot of reviews on Mulchers & I wanted something good, simple & easy to use. I found the lower quality ones just didn't have the juice to cut thru the branches. This one is well designed, can cut branches up to 45mm, has a 40litre catch tank, which is easy to take out & empty. The wheels are a great help as well (to move the 23kg unit around). The best thing I like about this unit is you plug it in, press the green go button, mulch your branches, empty your tank, then start again. For me it was more about ease of use, rather than how much it did or didn't cost. I'm an absolute rookie, so I wasn't looking for a mulcher that you needed to adjust the blades, as let's be honest, that would just frustrate me & leave me feeling ... MoreGreat value. I'm really enjoying the mulching experience. I turned about 8m3 of tree branches into 60 litres of mulch. If you want something easy to use, don't waste anymore time reading reviews, just buy this one to get the job done...

Good value

Bought to replace an old Alko New Tec, so my expectations weren’t high given their similar price and bottom-end status. Rips through weed trees and prunings up to the recommended max. Like most small shredders it will do sappy, leafy matter if fed alternately with dryer, coarser stuff. Easy to clear jams, but if you don’t ask it to do more than it is able it doesn’t jam that often. A very nice little shredder, powerful enough and the slide-on collector is a handy addition that minimises the mess.

Ryobi 2400W Electric Impact Shredder

I have had 2 garden shredders in the last 50 years, neither of which was any good. Last autumn we hired a big shredder, which did a good and speedy job, but the machine was just too much for my husband (82) and me (71) to handle. After doing some research on the Internet I purchased this machine, which I tried out today. It was really easy to assemble, my husband and I made a game of putting it together. Really easy to push around. Very short electric lead, you definitely need an extension lead. Half a compost box of twigs and branches produced a bin full of tiny shredding - it slices across the twig like a bread slicer. Great addition to the compost heap. It really can shred straight branches up to 42mm, no problem. It struggles slightly with softer, bushier ... MoreI have had 2 garden shredders in the last 50 years, neither of which was any good. Relatively easy to get to the innards to do a fairly straightforward cleanup job. Definitely a good investment so far!

A few months ago I needed a replacement mulcher so my daughter bought this model from my local Bunnings at Maitland. Used it once or twice with tree and shrub trimmings and it was usable but difficult to load due to small entry hole. Now I tried to use it to mulch Garden waste which was still green. Just turned it into mush. Daughter bought to price but did not keep receipt. Looking at review of the same type of machine I found that others fell into the same trap and the machine was not capable of mulching anything other than dried twigs. A picture of mushing up is already on a previous review. What are my options in returning this piece of junk/

Shredder
22 November 2021

Wanted the next unit up in price but supply chain delays of covid found me grabbing the model available in store. Bunnings. First use was on a big pile of bamboo cuttings, dried for a couple of weeks. I ripped through them. Good safety features. But I found I had frequent clogs of shredded material between the head and the bin. Hardwood branches might go through easier. There is a bar with rings in the clogged shoot which seems to cause the problem. Bit of poking and brushing and it’s back to business. Good way to mulch up otherwise unusable material. Wood needs to be dry to prevent future rusting and to cut easier.

Useless
10 February 2023

I bought this in November. 2022 and the box stated it was ok for palm fronds. This is perhaps the most useless piece of equipment I have ever bought. It takes only 2-3 leaves then time to unclog (10minutes a time to remove mush) - if you feed dry material it makes dust and threatens to heat up everything to ignite it.I am truly hoping for a refund as I declare this model a garden nightmare due to very poor design.

Got a this second hand off gumtree. Spent 8 hours non-stop of use on a range of items.Reviews are about expectations. Is this the most efficient model - no. Will it mulch green wet leaves - no. Is the hole quite small - yes. However for the price this has more than met my requirements. Key tips being1) dryer the better for branches, twigs and leaves2) remove the spindle as others have mentioned. I’m not sure what purpose it was designed for but limits clogging up.3) be realistic - for $300 this isn’t a high end do it all muncher. It’s primarily for small branches and dry foliage.4) don’t overfill - with the spindle removed, once the bucket is full, that’s where clogging starts so don’t be greedy and empty regularly. Having said that unclogging only takes a few minutes so not sure why others are complaining.Machine only got clogged a couple of times and at no point did the motor seem like it would overheat - you can hear the difference when clogged so just don’t force it.Biggest benefit is the amount of space saved vs putting in green rubbish. A whole tree was 4-5 loads of mulch of about 10m2.
