I bought these boots for climbing Mt Kilimanjaro and found them perfect for the task. After a couple of short hikes to break them in, they were extremely comfortable. The tread has a great amount of grip, which made me feel sure footed on every type of surface. The ultimate test came on Baranco wall where it is a steep rock face with a lot of water everywhere. These boots were up for every challenge thrown at them. I thank Salomon for creating a boot that made my climb and descent so enjoyable

I have these boots for about 2 years now and they’re still in amazing shape. This was my first pair of Salomon’s and I’m real glad I discovered the shoes. Really love the comforts and durability in these. I do not hike in these but I wear them for rainy days or just on casual days so that may be why they’re looking amazing still. But over all the shoe is real comfortable I could have purchased these in a size 8.5 because the size 8 I purchased fit a bit snug. But I truly do love a lot of Salomon’s boot designs, thank you guys.

I started my journey with Salomon’s Quest 4D 3 and the Ultra GTX 3’s as well. The Ultra GTX 3’s are my favorite shoe to this day. This, unfortunately, does not live up to the quality and expectation. Even the Ultra GTX 4 is a shadow of what the company used to produce. I tried both boots through a third party and returned them the same week. Salomon dropped the ball in the recent years with whatever decision prompted them to lower the quality of an already great boot. It hurts to say that I USED to love Salomon as they fit me like a glove and unequivocally provided the most versatile and capable mid boot. That’s no longer the case as the Pioneers are a single exterior layer as opposed to two stitched strengthening layers on the exterior. There’s no other way to say this: they’re cheap. Holding a pair of Pioneers in person, all I could think to myself was “are these genuine, or did I purchase fakes?” They look and feel like knockoffs. But nope, they’re Salomon’s unfortunately.

I have had this pair for over 2 years and I love them. I don't use them on trails as often as would like (once a month) but I used them for just about everything else. They are very light so I actually use them when I go Mountain Biking (once a week). The grip is great on the pedals and feel very protected when I am pedaling and hit a big rock. I used them sometimes the whole day and when I am doing yard work. It is my go to shoe for anything. I am needing something faster for trails though. I want more flexibility. I love the weight, waterproof, and fit on my Pioneers but I want more flexibility without loosing the stability i currently have.
I recently bought my third pair of these shoes. Previously I bought them primarily as a lighter-weight alternative to heavier or less durable backpacking boot. I wore them on week long trips into the Eagle Cap Wilderness Area in eastern Oregon, always the first week of June with a group of high school students. The elevation was high enough that we frequently dealt with snow and always with wet and muddy trails. We crossed several snow-melt flooded creeks on downed trees, which are wet and mossy, or on rocks in the stream. I felt like I had generally had good traction. I never deliberately waded into the water with these shoes, but sometimes I might have had a missed step one foot immersion. I don't recall that this presented an unusual wet foot problem. Now I wear ... MoreI recently bought my third pair of these shoes. I never deliberately waded into the water with these shoes, but sometimes I might have had a missed step one foot immersion. I don't recall that this presented an unusual wet foot problem. Now I wear them to my job at an electrical supply distributor and on local day trips into the desert around Carlsbad NM. People say I should wear high leather boots because of rattlesnakes, but I personally haven't seen any yet. These shoes are light, comfortable, durable. I appreciate the more muted visual tones of this particular style since I don't just wear them in the woods.
I've had these for about a month now and have about 120 miles of hiking with them for work. Amazing traction, comfortable, fairly durable, but not even close to water proof. I've dipped my toe in a creek in the middle of a 15 mile out and back for a survey and the last 10 miles my feet were ruined. Walking through wet grass, socks soaked. When the material becomes wet, it wicks into your socks. They're great boots other than a few of my work days ruined.
Order a whole size up as they run small. But i cant really recommend these as there is a major design flaw with the way the tongue and laces work. Up at the top the tongue is not wide enough to stay inside the shoe with the lace placement. One more eyelet could have remedied this. Good cushion, tough construction but lack of attention to detail make these a no-go. Wish i would have worn them inside more and returned them while i could.
I got these for my son as he just started doing some really good hiking. I used to do a bunch when I was younger as well. So I knew what I was looking for. Something light weight, breathable and water proof w ankle protection . Solomon has always been I brand I’ve enjoyed from my skiing days , especially the bindings. Anyways after searching and reviewing tons of different brands Solomon was the best not only in quality but in price. Water proof is an understatement, I ran them under the sink and the water just rolled off ! We live in Maine w plenty of hiking here which my son has enjoyed. He recently got back from hiking a week in the Smokey Mountains and loved his new hikers and how comfortable they were. 7 days off comfort and dry feet! No break in period needed ... MoreI got these for my son as he just started doing some really good hiking. I used to do a bunch when I was younger as well. So I knew what I was looking for. Best out there by far ! Every one else is charging $180 and up.! I got yours at $112 and 3 pair of socks. Looking at your trail runners next for easier day hikes for my son. He told me not to bother because he loves the pioneer x.
Salomon size 10 normally fits, but for some reason these boots feel substantially smaller. I tried to return them and the return feature on Midways website is not working. I chatted with customer assistance and they couldn't do anything. I called and they couldn't do anything. How hard is it to email a return label?Don't buy these shoes or any other piece of clothing or gear from Midway unless you are absolutely certain it will fit because otherwise you will not get your money back.
I have only had for a few weeks now. The break in was rough as they were very stiff shoes. I did try another insole as I normally always change them. However there is not enough room in the shoe to comfortably do so. I have changed them back to the original. Now that they have been mostly broken in the only true complaint that u have is the narrow toe box. I never need to have a wide shoe, but this toe box seems to be more narrow than most. To fix this I moved the shoelace up and left the bottom eyelets open. All in all I think it will be a good shoe once fully broken in. But more than likely not a shoe I would go back to on the next set.
