I had excellent service yesterday from two assistants in John Lewis High Wycombe. I was looking for a vacuum for upstairs as my upright is getting too awkward for me to carry up and down. I did not know what I was looking for but knew if I got a battery vacuum I did not want the motor on the handle as I had had experience of one and found it too heavy for me. I was shown all the 'hoovers' on show and tested them out in the shop. This is very light even though the motor is at the handle end and I found it the most comfortable to use. Price wasn't a factor but I found this one more comfortable than others which were hundreds of pounds more. I bought this because my old cylinder model broke. I didn't want another as I was always getting tangled up in the cable and hose and was nervous of the possibility of tripping over them as they always seemed to be in the way and were determined to trip me up. As I have recently had a very badly broken hip from a fall down the stairs, I didn't want to risk another fall. I had never heard of cordless vacuum cleaners, but a friend advised me about them and helped me to chose this lightweight model. It is perfect. I can't believe how easy it is to use, light, flexible and so quiet. Some models have a light at the front, this one hasn't, but that doesn't bother me, it's the weight that was the game-changer. I wish I'd bought one years ago.

A clip snapped off which is holding the brush on whilst I was using it. Took it back to JL who told us to contact Samsung support where I was informed there is a call out charge. This is a problem with the construction of this cleaner. I'm in no doubt that Samsung will say it's our fault it's broken so my husband is going to fix it himself. Waste of money. Spend the extra in a sturdier product.

They reported that it contained dust (yes, that is actually what a vacuum cleaner is for - to pick up dust!) and so the warranty was invalid but they could repair it for us for more than the cost of a new one. So kind! There was nothing in the user manual which said what we had done wrong, or should have done, so we challenged it with Samsung. A woman with pretty bad English, speaking from Romania, just parroted back what Emsted had said and basically told us to go away. And no, we couldn't speak to anyone in the UK. who had the remotest idea technically. Thank goodness for John Lewis! I have had this hoover for less than 6 months and it has snapped on one side while using it - pushing it along tiled/wooden floors, so different levels. I used it daily and it is a good vacuum, it does not last long on it's charge, 20 minutes on a full charge.They have told me it's my fault it's broken. They will not replace the part needed or replace the vacuum cleaner under warranty.So I am left with an expensive vacuum cleaner that doesn't work. Thanks for your customer after care. I do not recommend this vacuum cleaner. I was careful when hoovering and to be told that I misused it is offensive.

Thankfully John Lewis customer service is much better and I am covered in any case by the extra insurance I purchased when buying this vacuum. Before it broke down, suction was good, and I like the disposal system that I purchased with this vacuum, (although only one bag was included and I'm having trouble getting any more). Battery time was okay, not amazing, but it never is with cordless vacuums. It doesn't deal with my daughter's hair at all and I do have to clear out the head very frequently. Would prefer to exchange for an entirely different vacuum, but here we are. Generally, we use the short plastic tool which allows us to get crumbs and other items up from the floor, without the need to bend down. It is also great for in the car. Wouldn't start . 3 weeks old. Re read booklet. I took it apart after trying to recharge battery. Still unsure why it re started. Maybe a bit dust caught somewhere. Small dustbin. When we looked at the claims procedure, it is set up in such a way that it is not possible to take it in to a local dealer or nominated approved repair shop. This replaced a cordless that was more than twice the price (years ago), when the incessant "airway blocked" problem became intolerable. With due respect to all the more expensive models currently available, I cannot imagine a better cordless than this Samsung. It's very well designed (I don't expect to get the same blockage problems), easy to use, and completely functional. It has less attachments than others (just 3), but even that proves that you don't actually need anymore. A rare thing - a cheap model that outperforms the expensive competition. Excellent.
