Good aesthetically pleasing soundbar

Just got this soundbar S61A in the light grey colour to match my Samsung Frame TV in living room. Easy to hook up with HDMI Arc and what's cool is that the soundbar comes on automatically with the TV and u can control the volume on the TV remote. This soundbar is deceptively compact and chic - it is surprisingly loud from such a small device. Watching the Star Trek movie, the dialogue and special effect sounds were very clear and loud, however, I felt it did lack the deep oomph that u experience with a dedicated subwoofer box. Would be perfect if they increased the size a bit and added a better in-built subwoofer. For day to day TV viewing, it is great and improves the stock TV sound by a lot.

Good little soundbar, aethestically pleasing.

connects to Samsung Frame with little hassle. Sound is nice and full without being over blown. Operation guide could be better (ie have functions organised as 'to connect your device by bluetooth, do this ....')Can use TV speaker and soundbar as 7 "channels" but I found it better sound with just the Soundbar by itself.Grey Cloth cover is far less intrusive than normal black metal - looks niceGood feature is included HDMI cable .Great that it turns on/off with TV and volumen integrated with TV remote. Never use sound bar remote (which has bad point that the battery cover is nearly impossible to remove - says slide, but you have to twist it off with force)

Good, but not outstanding for the price

A nice-looking piece of equipment. The minimalism of the interface helps with the visual appeal, but it's not very intuitive to set up - I needed to download the full manual from Samsung's website. The sound is ideal for TV. It's clear and very evenly balanced across the frequencies. The bass is present in a controlled, accurate way - I can't hear any artificial cranking up of bass frequencies that some systems use to get more bass out of a relatively compact enclosure. For music, it's a little underwhelming. There's good clarity for music too, but a little more presence at the lower end would be welcome. Overall, the sound isn't noticeably better than two other sound systems I have that both cost a lot less (around £100). Great feature set, poorly executed
17 January 2022

I am not a fan of this soundbar for several reasons.- The main sound is very clear but feels too central, when compared to my 55" Samsung Frame TV which has its speakers slightly wider than the sound bar. The surround effect from the side speakers is OK, but not balanced in my living room since there is only a wall on the left side of the room (the right side is open to the dining room) and therefore doesn't reflect the side surround. Generally, I found the sound too tinny. Night mode was much worse being too hissy.- Smart things app should be much better. You can’t control all the soundbar parameters on the app (you can only control some of the sound parameters i.e. side and rear) whereas all other features must be controlled through the provided remote ... MoreI am not a fan of this soundbar for several reasons.- The main sound is very clear but feels too central, when compared to my 55" Samsung Frame TV which has its speakers slightly wider than the sound bar. Generally, I found the sound too tinny. Night mode was much worse being too hissy.- Smart things app should be much better. You can’t control all the soundbar parameters on the app (you can only control some of the sound parameters i.e. side and rear) whereas all other features must be controlled through the provided remote control, and the layout of the app page is not great for accessing other features such as having to dig down the menu for night mode etc. The SMART THINGS app needs to be better as there is no display on the soundbar (only visual feedback of blinks of the LEDs on the top).- The remote has volume and bass but and buttons for all other settings but I am astounded that this second remote is required for using this SAMSUNG soundbar on this SAMSUNG TV. I have since learned that the SONOS requires no additional remote control, most features are controlled through the app, and the SONOS soundbar can accept signal from your TV's standard remote. To me, having reliance on this other junk remote is inexcusable.- The voice assistant volume is set way too loud. If you are listening at normal volume, any setting (VOICE, TREBLE, BASS, CENTRE, SIDE) or notification (NETWORK IS DISCONNECTED!!) is shouted at you when you least expect it. Not great trying to watch things quietly at night. Almost pooped myself once when the WIFI connection dropped and it decided to announce this at full volume. You can switch this voice assistance off in the app, but then you can’t really tweak the right settings.- I was really surprised when it gave the option to offer soundbar + TV mode, I guess in effect to provide Q-Symphony (surprised as my 2020 TV model is not listed as Q-symphony capable). It did sound good! And for this reason I tried to overlook all the other issues… but this option was only on WIFI... which wasn’t stable and dropped out occasionally (refence to pooping myself above). It would also not offer to pair in this mode on HDMI! Also when connected in this mode you are then stuck with only two sound modes; GAME (which amplifies the surround and background too much) and ADAPTIVE SOUND (which gives the soundbar free reign to amplify and modify the sound as it sees fit, which definitely did not always sound great). I feel it needs STANDARD mode in this case.- The sound quality and volume on the HDMI was poor compared to WIFI and Bluetooth. I probably should have investigated this with different leads but I have honestly lost the will with this soundbar and gave up. I also believe the sound to be different between Bluetooth and WIFI which is weird, as I would expect it to be the same?- The power lead has a box halfway (approx. 1.5m) along its length, and therefore where we wanted to mount this over the mantlepiece the box would be left dangling on show, with no way of concealing this. I also think the mounting brackets are black which may show when wall mounted.- Sound bar switching on with the TV was hit and miss, I think this is because The Frame TV in Frame mode is not actually off, so the soundbar does an auto switch off. And then if it did it wouldn’t always default to the previously selected mode.- If you wanted to expand / upgrade in the future the additional woofer (£300) and rear speakers (£150) plus cost of the soundbar (£196) makes for a pretty expensive system. (~£650) at which price you might as well start getting an ATMOS capable system with included sub etc.Generally this purchase has been more frustrating than enjoyable and not worth the noticeable but variable improvement in clarity of sound it brought. I’ll be returning it imminently.

Great sound Quality and hassle free setup
13 September 2021

I purchased this with a Samsung 55" QLED, and boy it was a great buy. Being partially deaf and a sufferer of tinnitus is taxing at the best of times. When watching TV I have the volume set at 30+ all the time. It had got to the point where it became a real problem for everyone around me. I purchased this in the hope that the sound bar and satellite speakers would improve the tense atmosphere for those around me. It has proved to be one of the best buys I have ever made. It was easy to setup, paired with my Samsung TV with absolutely no hassles and I couldn't have hoped for better sound quality. My missus and friends no longer have anxiety attacks trying to get my attention. Thank you .

Great...better with sub.
26 December 2021

I got this soundbar free with a Frame Tv and was pleased with the appearance; clean and modern looking. Really like the expansive sound provided by the side speakers. Very good with music too.The control is a bit fiddly without a display. I turned the annoying voice feedback off straight away and so rely on the app. However, if you use the adaptive settings you really don't change anything other than the volume anyway, which I use the Tv remote for (HDMI arc).Only thing I didn't like was the bass, which was lacking a bit, however, I later got the accompanying subwoofer which makes it a pretty impressive setup. Ridiculously loud and flexible system now. That said you could pay up to £650 for both the speakers so I'd expect it do be at that price!Whole system ... MoreI got this soundbar free with a Frame Tv and was pleased with the appearance; clean and modern looking. Honestly a disappointment
3 January 2022

Honestly a disappointment: 1, AirPlay is not reliable, quite often my phone couldn't find the device, I never have this problem with my Sonos devices on the same wifi. And the only time when AirPlay is connected, there may be dropouts from time to time. 2, Sound quality is very average. I used this as a speaker for my PC, which means I always sit close to it, but the sound quality is very underwhelming. Again, should have spent a bit money to get a Sonos Beam instead. 3, Still gave it three stars because I bought it when it was heavily discounted, it's an okay product for what I have paid for. Otherwise don't get it when it's on Samsung's RRP.

Not Impressed
13 January 2022

I had problems from the start, it kept in disconnecting from the TV and wouldn't reconnect until it had been power cycled. Samsung support unbelievably told me it wasn't designed to work with WiFi. And I quote "I understand Thomas But I don't think that it is really a fault with the soundbar its just that the soundbar is not built to work that way. I recommend using a different type of connection like bluetooth or via HDMI connection"It's advertised that it's Alexa enabled, it isn't! It has Alexa voice built in but Alexa doesn't recognise it as a speaker in speaker groups. Item it sold as described.I have now sent back and have a refund

Why wouldn't I be happy? In my front room, I have a 5.1 surround sound system. I recently upgraded to a Samsung TV whereupon my Yamaha amplifier DEMANDED I give it permission to upgrade its logic systems. "That's pretty cool!" I thought (and the consequent sound is AMAZING). And then I realised that the old TV had no speakers - WHOOPS - I shoulda bought a soundbar at the same time as the new TV (so I could use it in the spare room). I bought this Samsung soundbar, plugged it in to the old Sony TV and everything is audibly beautiful! Seriously, it doesn't matter what the brand is, they all TALK to each other to give you the best solution. I haven't, of course, compared like-brand with like, which may POSSIBLY improve the ease of use of the REMOTE. But, I can't ... MoreWhy wouldn't I be happy? trick in initial set up. it works afer
17 February 2022

i had some issues when i first got it connected via HDMI as it got no sound. Optical input is working fine though.I tried it again the HDMI and it worked, the trick is:-you need to disconnect all HDMI ports from your TV, then FIRST connect the HDMI cable of the soundbar with the TV before connecting others.Make sure you tried that first before consider returning or using the optical option. HDMI sounds way better than optical.I think the OPERATING/USER MANUAL should include the above in the TROUBLESHOOTING section
