I've been using this for a couple of weeks now and it does give out impressive sound. Crisp, sharp tones, with good vocal clarity. I'm using it with a Samsung QN800B TV, and the TV and Soundbar "Q-Symphony" feature works very well, giving more breadth and depth of sound without rear speakers. Unfortunately, the rear sound (the .2 upwards speakers which reflect sound off the ceiling to simulate surround) do create a somewhat muffled surround effect, noticeably different to my existing 15 year old 5.1 system that I was looking to replace with this. Another disappointment is that the Soundbar supposedly offers the best output through HDMI, and advertises this as a feature with "Crystal clear audio through the use of HDMI which transmits sound digitally providing you with the best possible sound.", but Samsung neglected to provide the appropriate cable, which feels rather cheap of them, considering the price of the Soundbar. Also, the Tap Sound feature "Transfer your music with one simple tap. Just tap your smartphone anywhere on the Soundbar to hear the rich sound mirrored, without any need for manual pairing straight to your soundbar" doesn't seem to work with my 2022 Samsung flagship phone. Overall, it's a good device, sounds great, but has some issues which knock a star off the rating.

However with the optional 9500 rear speakers the surround sound is transformed. All the sounds coming from the rear that were previously missed are there. The sound is more immersive and feels like it's coming from all around. That's for music as well as movies. Atmos however still isnt great in my opinion. Often it comes as an echo esp for higher pitched nose and voices. The sound isn't clean but sounds busy since the speakers aren't timed. Probably because tv sound has to come from behind the tv and takes longer to arrive. Only background sounds from battle/war scenes sound better or more powerful since it's just noise. Qsymphony also turns itself off after switching between modes. It's the biggest disappointment of the bar and I'd sooner just leave it off. The other disappoinment is use with Xbox. Sound delay with games when Xbox is connected to the s95b Samsung tv and bar connected to earc. The only way to fix it was too connect Xbox to the HDMI on the bar and tv to bar HDMI out. Good that it had this feature. But even then it missed a lot of sound in Dolby Atmos and had to switch the Xbox to dtsx to get voices and certain sounds. Took some time to get to figure out. Overall with the rear speakers it's an excellent system and big improvement over my old 5.1 1000w system from 2007.

I've moved from an older soundbar from a different brand to this one. Its has greater functionality than the previous one, but does it SOUND any better than a 5 star WhatHifi magazine rated soundbar? The answer is so far, no, however its barely run in, and I'm sure it'll get better. The simulated surround sound however is very good. There's good height in the sound and the sub offers enough bass to keep most people happy. Its connected happily to the Samsung Smartthings app to enable control via the app to change the various settings which, if using only the supplied remote, are a little confusing. Physically the bar is incredibly slim, if not quite wide, its marginally wider than the 55" tv its sitting below, something bare in mind if space is an issue. But the sub is pretty small and sits happily in one of the 'holes' in my Ikea shelving I use as a TV stand.

I was looking forward to receiving my Samsung S800B Lifestyle Ultra Slim Soundbar. When it arrived, I eagerly unpacked it, looked at the instruction booklet and thought how unhelpful it actually was, there are functions of the soundbar that are not included in the supplied instructions, so online I went to Samsung's website and downloaded a more comprehensive instruction booklet, which I would advise anyone to do instead of following the one provided in the box. Setting up the the system is quite easy, once you have the full instruction booklet! Pairing the Sub to the soundbar is straight forward and quick. Setting up the the system is quite easy, once you have the full instruction booklet! Pairing the Sub to the soundbar is straight forward and quick. As is connecting it to the TV, this is where problems for some people can arise as your TV will need to have HDMI(Arc), Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to connect to the soundbar (for Wi-Fi, your TV also needs to be a Samsung). As I have an LG TV, I could only test the Soundbar using HDMI(Arc) and Bluetooth. Both work very well, however I felt that HDMI (Arc) has the edge on sound quality over Bluetooth. The Soundbar itself is unobtrusive and for it's size, it certainly punches out impressive quality sound, without any noticeable distortion at higher volumes. The different Sound Mode's let you tailor the sound to your taste using the supplied remote or the Smartthings App, which you will need to download to get the best out of the soundbar. The Subwoofer is again, quite small and unobtrusive for the bass it develops, this can also be controlled via the remote or the Smartthings app. You can connect to Alexa, as this is built in, however I would suggest you continue to use or buy a dedicated Echo device, the quality of this feature is quite poor in comparison, a feature I was looking forward too, however has left me disappointed, so I will stick to my Echo. Apart from the Alexa being a poor feature, the rest of the system I cannot fault in the short time I have used it. It certainly fills the room with quality and crystal clear sounds, from speech to music to fast paced sound effects and blasts in movies. For anyone who wants a Soundbar that is unobtrusive and provides high quality sound, then this is the one I would suggest. With the ability to add two rear speakers, this would be a very good all rounder.

Slim superior sound

The sound produced by slim wall mountable TVs today is a source of pain for your average audiophile, so I have been searching for months for a slim wall mountable soundbar that is affordable, and won’t stick out so far into the room that it requires me to limbo dance to get past. The Samsung S801 ticks all the boxes. It’s narrow profile and simple wall mount (included) mean that it barely protrudes into the walk way. The subwoofer is tastefully designed and sits under the bed. Both units connected as soon as they were switched on making set up super easy. Switching back to just the TV very quickly confirmed the huge leap in audio quality. We have fitted the unit in a bedroom, so it is not required to go super loud so that we are pinned to our seats. As such the voice enhancement features make dialogue so much clearer especially on lower volumes and the subwoofer adds just enough bass to enjoy special effects without disturbing the room next door. Compared to a 500W full 7.1 surround sound system, it lacks a bit of shape and depth, but if you want that kind of strength, you shouldn’t be looking at a super slim soundbar.

Strong sound frm a compact soundbar

Loved the look of this product as soon as it came out of the box and was excited to get it set up. It looks quality which is nothing less than I'd expect from the Samsung brand. I got it all set up then was dismayed to find my TV did not have a suitable bluetooth setting and I therefore needed an HDMI lead to connect, which it didn't come with. So had to wait a few days for that to be delivered. Once it was up and running I was immediately impressed by the sound quality from such a slim soundbar. Although it's slim, it is quite long so doesnt fit on top of our unit with the other things we have on it (broadband router, photos, generic satelllite TV box....) so I wall-mounted the soundbar. Whilst slightly tricky to make sure the bracket holes are in the right place and level (there is a template but it was concertina-folded in with the screws so I didn't find it until I'd already made my own!). Brackets allow for thin wires to go behind the soundbar but I have one cable which is slightly too thick, so that's slightly annoying. I've also used the soundbar to play music via bluetooth from my phone, and the sound is equally impressive. I've not noticed much output from the subwoofer, only occasionally, so I'm still testing whether it the location I have it in, or whether it's just the programs we're watching! Overall I'm impressed with the product and would recommend it, I'd just appreciate it coming with a cable to connect to the TV!

Everything is well packed with all the accessories in a single pouch. Setting up the S800B is easy. For my configuration, I decided to use a wireless connection to the TV to reduce cable clutter. The subwoofer is plugged into the wall. Two hanger brackets are secured the the wall with an included paper template to ensure optimal positioning. The soundbar is hung on the brackets and plugged in. From start to finish, it's a 20 minute task to have everything placed where you want. I connected the S800B to my Samsung account using WiFi and the SmartThings app from a phone. This allows any of the household's TVs or phones to broadcast to the soundbar. It also enables the Alexa integration, which allowed me to remove the Echo dot that was in my living room. The soundbar also supports Bluetooth and HDMI ARC connections, though I didn't notice too much difference between the three in terms of audio quality. With a Samsung TV, the soundbar is integrated into the TV control experience seamlessly. The TV turns on and off the soundbar the same time as the TV changes power state, and the soundbar's volume and audio processing mode are easily controlled via the TV remote and menu interface. The audio quality delivered by the soundbar is unreal. Compared to my other soundbar, the Samsung HW-MS650, the S800B's subwoofer easily outputs more bass while the soundbar speakers produce mids that are ever so slightly less full. That is a technological marvel considering that the S800B is only about a third the volume of the HW-MS650. It's so thin that the 55" Samsung QLED TV I have protrudes farther from the wall than the soundbar itself. It easily disappears into the space and just provides satisfying sound. It's not a home theater replacement, but for a person who wants a sleek, unobtrusive, and capable soundbar for a social space, there aren't many other competitors that do it all as well as this one.

The skinny bar
15 August 2022

The Samsung HW- S800B is a very skinny soundbar that has excellent sound & is really easy to set up. I am using it with a non Samsung TV and this soundbar looks great with it. It is very easy to set up & use – especially if you are using other Samsung components. I also have Samsung smartphone so it works seamlessly with Smart Things. It comes with mounting hardware to wall-mount. Yes, it uses a mini-HDMI cable (not full-size HDMI cable) which just means it has a smaller connector but still works the same – just saves space on the soundbar with a drawback or breaking easily as i already snapped one while lifting the soundbar. Unboxing the soundbar was very easy its packed in a guitar shaped box with everything well packed. Unboxing the soundbar was very easy its packed in a guitar shaped box with everything well packed. The components and wires and all portions of the system feel top notch and well built. After connecting via HDMI, the sound bar was recognized instantly. The sound is amazing right off the box and the sound bar fully works with the TV volume without having to dive into settings. The range of configuration is rich without adding too many unneeded settings. Dont let the small size fool you, it does look sleek but the 3.1.2 channels of Dolby Atmos or DTS:X audio delivers a punch. Overall, great quality and performance in a small, elegant package.

Took a while to warm up
19 December 2022

I bought this soundbar a few months ago now after having purchased a Samsung QN95B TV. Sound on the QN95B is awful (take note Samsung). Even under minimal bass the back panel of the QN95B vibrates like its going to fall off, its a shocker, so I took the plunge and went with a slimline soundbar to pipe the audio through. Initially when I plugged this in, I was unimpressed, the sound was quite flat, quite muted, however over the last couple of months, this soundbar has really come into its own sonically. At this point I absolutely love it. It provides real clarity to dialogue yet it can really pump out thumping bass if you need it to. It comes with a separate remote which is a bonus as you can change the bass on the fly as well as the sound mode. Things to note: - This thing win any awards for its musical prowess. - I dont hear much difference in sounds modes. May just be me, but they all sound pretty similar - Dolby Atmos isnt strong For the money however, I am really quite happy with it. As my first foray into TV soundbars I happy I made a decent choice in what is a really crowded market
