Samyang 85 mm F / 1.4 AE Lens - for Nikon

$428.05

(35 reviews)

This latest Samyang 85mm F1.4 AS IF UMC Aspherical Lenses also feature UMC (Ultra Multi Coatings) which aid the very high level of light transmission, and adds further resistance to flare and ghosting. The 85mm F1.4 lenses are manual focus primes, designed to give exceptional results at wide apertures. At F1.4 great images can be obtained, which is perfect for portraiture and low light shooting. The Samyang 85mm is also suited to cropped sensors, including APS-C / DX sensors, it gives approximately 120mm focal length equivalent. Coupled with the fast F1.4 aperture gives an excellent portrait lens for tighter head shots or working from a distance with cropped sensor cameras, or for shooting in various low light conditions. The bokeh (the character of the out-of-focus blur) is a primary concern for professionals choosing an ultra large aperture lens for shallow depth-of-field photography. The Samyang 85mm F1.4 lens design offers excellent bokeh quality of out-of-focus highlights when used near wide open such as at F1.4 and F2. The lens optical construction comprises of 9 lenses divided into 7 optical groups with one aspheric lens element. The Samyang 85mm is designed with internal focusing (IF) meaning the lens does not increase in size when focusing. A further positive aspect to internal focusing is that the lens is much less likely to get dust inside.

Fab lens for the money. But you need to be patient.

This is a great lens for the money. If you want auto exposure go elsewhere but the quality and build of this lens is fantastic for the price. It can be hit and miss with critical focus without ae but Cartier Bresson didn't have it did he? Primarily I bought this lens for video where I can take time to set up/focus etc but it's a lovely portrait lens possibly one of the best for the price. Nice bokeh/dof. However, it is fixed not zoom so you have to move! Also quite heavy but I like that. Bear in mind crop factors on your dslrs. An old school lens with VFM but you need time to get used to it. I love it.

Fantastic Lens for the $$$

I received my lens today and have been using it all day. I have it mounted on a D-5500 and it takes great photos. The manual focus process is something I wanted to test and its not that difficult. The bokeh is unreal and the mechanisms for focusing are smooth and easy to adjust. This is definitely worth your consideration if you dont have the money for expensive lenses but want this focal length in your bag.

If you are looking for an affordable with no compromise with image quality, try this lens. It's manual focus but you can achieve accurate focus with practice. Build quality is excellent. Focus ring is nice and damp. I will recommend this product.

Fantastic sharp lens at mid range aperture, beautiful depth of field down at f1.4 with only minimal chromatic aberrations.

Great lens, a must have
16 March 2018

Super sharp lens, well build and great pics it's a must have. I bought the canon version to use on my Sony A7ii using the Sigma MC11 although can use any cheap adapted as there and no electronic connections. I bought this version just in case I go back to canon and offers more flexibility. I'd recommend doing the same rather than getting the emount version. Don't worry about focussing...must be harder with canon but with Sony with focus peaking and focus zoom it's quick and simple. Hit focus every time.

Its pro glass, not for amateurs
25 April 2013

this is my 3rd favourite samyang lens after 35mm f1.4 and 24mm f1.4. obviously samyang is not for those who are not comfortable with manual focusing but for my it works great. most of the time i don't use them wide open for sharpness and larger depth of field makes it easy to do focus manually. but i took some shots wide open which i'll post here

Perfect lens for video and film making
22 July 2020

With its manual focus, this lens is ideally suited for video and film making as you can pull focus very smoothly and accurately. (Even the best autofocus systems hunt and they cannot give you the same manual control as a dedicated manual lens can.) The f1.4 aperture gives luscious out-of-focus backgrounds while still giving sharp enough subject imaging with just a hint of dreamy softness. Stopped down a little more and it is tack sharp. There is no noticeable distortion with this lens and of course its 85mm focal length is perfect for just the right amount of image compression and presence for close ups and head shots you need for filming and portraiture.

Used with Nikon D5100. I am an amateur but so happy with the manual settings. It feels robust build.

fairly sharp
5 September 2017

If you want a really sharp image at f1.4 you need to spend a lot more money, but this lens is excellent value. Attached was taken at f1.4 1/800 at ISO 100 on Sony a7ii using focus peaking

just blown my mind, ridiculous sharp the only bad thing its that its manual focus and im not used to manual focus, eitherway its a great lens for the money and for portraits will work just fine because the subject isnt moving a lot
