Samyang MF 14 mm T3.1 VDSLR MK2 Sony E Black
The Samyang VDSLR 14mm T3.1 MK2 is a compact, high quality, fast prime cine lens, available in several mounts. It has full-frame coverage and is optimised for use on video, DSLR and mirrorless cameras. Whether this is your first dedicated cine lens or you are simply looking for amazing performance from compact glass, the MK2 version inherits the superb optics and build quality from the previous model, but has several added features for enhanced performance and handling. All models in the VDSLR MK2 range have unified focus and aperture gear ring positions. This allows for easy changing of lenses without having to adjust follow-focus systems and rigs. For added convenience and professional usage, focus scales, apertures and focal lengths are visible on both sides of the lenses. The new 9-bladed aperture delivers smooth and circular bokeh, which adds a three dimensional quality to the subject and pleasing out-of-focus effects. An 18-ray starburst highlight effect can also be created by stopping down to small apertures. Weather-sealing now protects the most vulnerable gap between the lens and camera mount, to prevent dust, light rain and snow from penetrating. It provides the ability and confidence to capture stunning images in less than perfect conditions. Due their compact dimensions and light weight, Samyang VDSLR MK2 lenses are ideal for use handheld, with gimbal, on car mounts and drones. They offer an ideal way to experience the quality of genuine cine lenses on a low budget, for high quality video making. They are especially popular with YouTubers.

The first thing I did with this lens was shoot a time lapse of a blizzard. The results were fantastic. The image quality was so clear and the angle of view was great! I'm finally able to use a cine lens on my 7D! The aperture and focus rings are smooth and quiet, just as they need to be. The only thing I encountered that was odd, to me at least, was having to press the Start/Stop button while in video mode. I have never had to do this with any of my other lenses. Could be because it's a cine lens. However, that's the mildest of inconveniences for such a great lens!

At sub 250 for a lens you really dont expect much, but this lens pretty much defies that premise hands down. Ill be using this mostly for property interiors, so the inability to fit an ND or polariser isnt really an issue for me, though it may be for some folk so its worth baring in mind. Solid, great image quality/price ratio, should last for donkeys years. I took a punt with this, but Ill certainly consider Samyang again.

I was considering the Zeiss 15mm but every time I'd add it to my cart I'd hesitate to pull the trigger. With the Perseides Meteor shower approaching I started researching alternatives. The standard version of this lens kept coming up on forums about landscape and architecture photography in all the different re-brandings (Rokinon, Bower, etc) Then I saw one photographer's stunning images taken with it and I was sold. I do video as well as stills so I thought it would be worth springing for the cinema version which would just drop right into my FF rig.I can't describe how good it felt to hold the lens for the first time. This is not a plasticky, cheap, loose lens. It is extremely precise and solid! So onto image quality...I chose to put it on my 1Dx for a round of ... It's really nice to have the manual aperture ring as you can get in-between the standard settings for very precise adjustment. Also, the infinity focus is spot on! Most of my L-glass can't make that claim! There is distortion (mustache) and barely noticeable vignetting both which are easily corrected in post. The clarity, color and sharpness of this lens are incredible for this price point. Does it compare to my Zeiss 21mm? In certain settings, yes. Though the edges are softer. My third night out with the lens was chasing storms and it's perfect for the open desert. (see attached) Extremely pleased with this purchase and being able to save a couple grand has me researching other Samyang lenses! Stop reading and buy it now!

I gave this product 5 stars because for the amount of money they are asking for, you get every penny worth. Simply put, it's great build. Not flimsy and feels heavy enough you aren't going to break it. I use it for glidecam shots and it works beautifully. Put it down to about 4 clicks and it gets most things in focus. I use a 5D Mark 3 so even though this lens does not have a low f stop it still is excellent in low light. This was my main concern, because I was about to shell out more money for a better low light lens that wasn't a cine lens. The aperature ring is real nice and smooth. Only problem is if you grab it and you could mess up your exposure. However, that only happened once and that's when I started to use it. All in all it's awesome on a 5D Mk3, I have ... All in all it's awesome on a 5D Mk3, I have no idea how it performs on lower class bodies, but it can't be too much worse because it's always in the glass. The only problem is there are slight sharpness issues and color fringing. Although not enough that made me stray away from saving a few dollars.
This is a nice lens to use for video because it has gears for a follow focus (and for the declicked aperture). But since the hood is not removable and the lens is so wide, I can't use it in my Redrock matte box. I can't move the lens far enough forward because the hood runs into the filter in my matte box. I'm pretty sure the Redrock matte box is a standard size. Someone at Samyang said they make a special filter holder for this lens, but since I already have a matte box and was looking for an inexpensive lens that had gears and was declicked, buying a special filter holder for just one lens doesn't make sense to me. I wish they would've just made the hood removable. I didn't return it because I couldn't find anything else to replace it with. I figured I could shoot ... I figured I could shoot in 4K and crop the edges that show the matte box and then shrink it down to 1080 for final output. Obviously, that wouldn't work if I wanted to output to 4K, but if I just zoomed it in post (cropped the edges) a little bit, it wouldn't look too bad, even if I wanted to output it to 4K.
It is sharp and very well corrected for spherical aberration. Great for architecture, wedding videography, landscapes and astro. All metal but in a relatively small package - it doesn't stick out too much and easy to balance on a steady cam. So far no problems with the coating. Manual focusing is not a problem in this focal range - for video just set it to 1.5m and 95% of the objects near and far are in focus.
This lens is awesome. I explained to THOMAS exactly what I needed and where I was going, and I've not been disappointed since. I truly am grateful for this lens. My photography has improved tremendously and more to come.
Five stars because of the price point for a 35mm full frame very wide 14mm cinema lens having a long focus throw and de-clicked aperture ring. I use this lens with a Meta Bones Speed Booster on a Sony FS7. It is not a fisheye lens, but there is some horizontal and vertical barrel distortion that can adjusted in post. I would not use this lens for architectural subjects unless the objective is to emphasize the curvature of lines at the edges of the frame. I did not detect any chromatic aberration and the lens was somewhat soft until stopped down to about T5.6 where it clearly resolved every line in my 8x10 Digital Image Flow LLC chart at the center and edges. I plan to use this lens in tight places outdoors, at the sea shore, and where there is cloud activity using ... I recommend using this lens with a high resolution monitor like the Gratical Eye or HD, because the low resolution FS7 monitor displays significant moir which is not in the processed image.
This lens has a beautiful color rendering, and also really sharp for a 10mm although it is not an easy configuration for canon ef socket. The distortion is visible, but not horrid at all. The build quality is not so great as my other lenses, but looks sturdy enough. It is made mostly form plastic. This can be an advantage as well on gimbals for example because it is lighter this way. Focusing on that wide also not a problem. Sadly this lens does not have filter thread. No polar or nd filter. Although nd filter is not a problem when a subject is meters away because stepping down yields almost the same result. Building a kit for this cine lenses can be tricky however the same color rendering is a big advantage. Like the 24mm I got is really weak compared to others. It ... I've owned a few Samyang lenses and all except this one have been good. My copy of the Samyang 10mm T3.1 will give an acceptable image in the centre but the outer 2/3rds are a blurry mess with large amounts of CA. It's probably just a (very) bad copy but something this bad should never have gotten through quality control.
