The F1 from Scarpa offers more comfort, support, and performance than a training or racing shoe. Weighing in at just 1260 grams, it is significantly lighter than a classic touring boot, such as the Maestrale, which weighs around 1400 grams. The shell is made of carbon-reinforced Grilamid, and the shaft, reinforced with the X-Gage form, along with the stable walk mode lever, maximizes stability within the 1.25 kilograms possible, while still providing a pleasant flex and minimal torsion. The Boa system allows for a perfect fit over the instep, and with the wide buckle on the shaft, it can be securely fastened along with the removable strap. While the 62 degrees of shaft rotation may not seem impressive at first glance, the fact that the shaft operates almost friction-free is truly enjoyable. This doesn’t mean you have to take huge steps with the shoe. A large shaft rotation also has the advantage of allowing you to walk quite steeply with a relatively flat climbing aid on the binding. This means less fussing and a smoother stride. The shell does not conform to any binding standard, which means that the F1 is not compatible with either frame or hybrid bindings. However, the small extension at the toes is perfect for attaching crampons. So, if you are a classic touring skier or if you embark on long tours and value weight just as much as a powerful descent, you should definitely consider the F1.
