I have not worn the boots I purchased outdoors yet, but hired a pair of them on a recent trip and found them to be overall decent quality. Needless to say, I went on to order a pair for myself as soon as I returned home. Reasonably roomy inside and generally comfortable to wear though could have more padding for additional comfort. Personally I would like more arch support underfoot, but appreciate everyone’s foot shape is different and that’s nothing a separate insole can’t fix. They are solid boots which seem durable and built to last. Easy to adjust lacing to customise the fit. Good grippy sole unit, stiff and ideal for kicking steps in snow.

Solid boots for mountaineering; compatible with crampons (semi automatic); definitely for winter.

Last chance for my big size 15/50 foot to find a pair of mountaineering boots and they had it when main seller of brand didn't. Boots are well made as described.

These boots saved my life as I am a climber with size 14.5 feet. These boots are fairly light and pretty rugged. The one complaint is the lacing system doesn't really allow you to cinch tight at the bottom of the tongue.Otherwise I really like them
This is my first pair of mountaineering boots, so take this review with a grain of salt. They fit! I’m a size 50 (15us) and this is the only pair of shoes I could find in my size after calling around all of Seattle. I’ve used them once since I bought them, the worked as expected, no blisters, only slightly sore feet after climbing a mountain.Compared to rentals (that don’t exist in my size) these boots appeared much more comfortable. They are a bit warm for summer climbing, but nothing uncomfortable.I want to call out the staff at feathered friends who spent a lot of time with me to find the perfect boot, make sure it fit and taught me different ways I didn’t know to tie the boot that help minimize blisters. I’m sure without that I would have had a much worse ... MoreThis is my first pair of mountaineering boots, so take this review with a grain of salt. They fit! These are excellent boots. Comfortable straight out of the box for a 4 mile walk. Looking forward to covering many miles in the snow in the next few weeks.
These boots are everything I would expect of Scarpa Mantas of old - sturdy, waterproof, grippy on steep terrain, very comfortable and cosy to wear. The only reason to score them 4 instead of 5 is that shock absorbing on an approach road to the mountains isn't as good as lighter, Summer-orientated boots for someone who has had osteoarthritis, like myself - but hey! after 15 years I now have artificial joints, so I can wear Mantas again! None of this would be problem for many (younger?) walkers without joint issues.
Bought these boots a week ago and did a light 4 mile break in hike up and down this morning. Here are my thoughts.I was looking for a boot to use during colder weather. Boots are lighter than I thought they would be in comparison to an older pair of Garmont leather Dakotas that I've been wearing. I would not describe them as deep winter boots for temps below zero but they should do what I need them to do most of the time in NH and Maine. They are slightly more flexible in the upper than the Garmonts. Fit in forefoot is a bit wider than the Garmonts. I threw out the stock footbed and installed the Superfeet green footbed which I've always used. They were very comfortable on the break in and no issues. In terms of sizing, I'm wearing a medium weight sock. With the medium weight socks, I ended up getting size 45. The 44.5 was going to be a bit tight, though it would probably be fine as a summer boot with thin socks. For comparison to other shoes, I wear an 44.5 in the Garmonts, a bit tight, and size 11 in Brooks Glycerin running shoes. I wear a 10.5 in several shoes from LL Bean, the bison loafer and the Stonington shoes). Width was very good - I have D width fairly skinny foot and leg.Overall, very happy with the fit. Very comfortable.P
Early days but I have had earlier models. Excellent reliable boots that are very comfortable, ideal for many season walking particularly winter and are very sturdy. Easy for to crampons. Very happy so far, Brocken in quickly. Love them so far.
I had a terrible time finding boots that fit my feet, but luckily Feathered Friends had these in stock in size 49 (and size 50 too!). They fit great and worked perfectly on my climb of Mt Whitney. Another reason I keep coming back to Feathered Friends!
