EXTREMELY POOR POTTING MIX - DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY

This used to be a good product but is now terrible. I contacted the company was given excuses about the pandemic. The issue is clearly quality control with contents in the bag being insufficiently composted. This product has obviously changed significantly. After years of it being a good product, my plants have been stunted, the material does not wet properly and I am very disappointed after a large investment of 20 bags. Bunnings need to be aware of this change and look for new products. This is DEFINITELY NO LONGER a PREMIUM potting mix. I was offered no recompense from the company despite my plants being stunted with burned edges. Extremely dissatisfied. If I could give it zero stars I would. Gnats gnats everywhere

Gave me a gigantic gnat infestation :( I didn’t know it was the soil, so I spent so much money on other products to treat the gnats across 3-4 months, including using bags of this stuff to repot the plants several times, which would work initially and then the gnats would always come back. A specialist came and educated me about it, so I’m about to repot again using different, better quality potting mix, while I do the treatment again. I have lost thousands in plants/products this year. Just saw so many other reviews with the same issue. I am so disappointed because it’s marketed as a premium product.

Poor quality mix. Questionable contents. Not recommended.
29 March 2022

This mix is very heavy, clumpy, contains large amounts of questionable composted materials, and has a number of contaminants including plastic and tree roots. It contains ridiculously large peices of bark (5cm or more) and the large amount of questionable composted material caused burning on new shoots without added fertiliser. It also retains far too much water and drains exceptionally poorly even with pots with large draining holes. It also does not resemble any soil you'll find any native plant growing in.Scotts have much better potting mixes. You can even raise the acidity by adding some coffee grounds from time to time.If you're planting natives in the ground, then you don't need any of these. Just prepare the existing soil and plant it!Short answer, don't bother. This product undoubtably exists because of a perceived benefit resulting from clever marketing. Don't waste your money!

Quality potting mix
20 September 2022

Excellent potting mix. I was given some rather sad, very young, beautiful native plants which were struggling to survive. I bought this potting mix to try and nurture them back to health. They responded immediately to the quality potting mix and a couple of the bottlebrush babies [plants 4 inches tall] are even showing their first flower/bottlebrush buds. I can recommend highly this premium native potting mix to not only revive sick young native plants, to offer native plants an extra boost to their health.

The correct soil mix is so important.
22 June 2023

I planted up a new area near my new pond with ALL native plants. Thus it was essential that I got the soil mix right. I know that native plants appreciate the correct soil for their needs. I used the osmocote premium native potting mix to give the plants the best chance to thrive. FIRST I removed 4 wheelbarrow loads of the old rock hard clay. put in a generous layer of pure gypsum and then multiple bags of Osmocote native premium potting mix. For one group of natives that prefer a more sandy soil I also added in extra garden sand. Now every native plant i put in is thriving. The correct soil mix is so important. Thank you Osmocote

Too Acidic for Plants - pH Reading of 3
19 June 2023

I bought 2 bags of this potting mix last week on opening found the mix was just composted pine bark with some sparse osmocote. Decided to do a soil pH test on the mix and it read 3 - 4 for extreme acidity. This potting mix has an Australian premium rating there is no way this mix is being regulated with that pH reading. No plant will grow in this potting mix would need alot of extra additives. Will be returning both bags purchased.

Used to be good but product sold recently is rubbish!
1 September 2021

This used to be a fairly decent store bought potting mix. Up until approx a year ago, when these 50 litre bags disappeared from the Bunning shelves. When new stocks came in the mix was completely different and really really bad. I tried a few different lots from my various local Bunnings (Narre Warren, Clyde and and doveton) over the last 6 months ever hopeful that I had just been unlucky, but they were CONSISTENTLY TERRIBLE. Moisture retention is non existent, except for where the mix quickly compacts at the bottom of the pot and water pools. The mix, which is stringy and dry contains an unforgivable amount of plastic debris, and large chunks had stuck together white white mould. Loads of gnats after a day or two. Very poor performance as a potting mix. More of a mulch.
14 March 2022

"Premium Plus" this product ain't. More like "Ordinary at best". It's classed incorrectly as a potting mix as it's too coarse. It should be stocked in the mulch section, really. The plants in pots where I've used this haven't thrived even though this is supposed to have all the bells and whistles. I've only had issues. Symptoms of using this potting mix include stunted roots, yellowing leaves and lacklustre growth that makes plants more susceptible to pests and diseases. Other potting mixes have not caused quite so many problems, if at all. My recent purchase was an exercise in wishful thinking. In any case, I have some expensive mulch which won't cause any problems in garden beds. That's what the extra star is for as thankfully it's not a complete waste.

big percentage is wood chip, not soil. Did I just get a few bad bags?
14 January 2023

Decided to try this premium product and not purchase a rival brand of premium mix, Was very unhappy from the start. Seeds refused to germinate, because mix was so woody and full of woodchip. I look at plants that I used it for and notice lack of results. I dont know how to add photos that I took. Bags were bought from Bunnings Maroochydore. Certainly wont be buying again.
