Sculpey is far and away the best oven-bake clay, and Wal-Mart has the best prices anywhere. I'd been buying the 1lb packs, but this is a much better deal. I was a little concerned that it would be in one 8lb block, and I'd have a problem keeping it from drying out. But no! It was 8 1lb packs! Perfect!

This does not feel like most of the Polymer Clays I've worked with. Straight out of the packaging, this polymer clay's consistency is that of actual clay, without the need to massage or roll it to soften it up or otherwise make it more maleable. It has a modeling clay or actual clay consistency, and lends itself very well to shaping and blending pieces together, as well as allowing for highly detailed work. It's possible I may've baked it at a slightly higher temperature than recommended (~ in my kitchen oven; I don't currently have an oven thermometer), and the finished product was slightly browned on its outer or highest edges and points.* "For Original Sculpey, preheat to 275 degrees F (135 C). My daughters and I wanted to do something to make our own pendants for necklaces to give as gifts and this worked perfectly. It was pretty hard to work with at first so I kneaded it to soften it up for my daughters to use. Once I had worked it for a while it was easier for them to shape. We did find that it was easier for them to shape using clay tools that I have instead of just their hands. They loved that it didn’t try to dry out while we were molding it. They kept changing their mind on what design to create so it was good that this stays moldable as long as we needed it to. We tried to keep our pendants pretty thin so they wouldn’t be too heavy on necklaces. We covered a baking sheet in foil and used that to bake the clay on. We plan on using the rest of the clay to make ornaments next. I love that this gives my daughters the ability to create whatever they can imagine.

This was a fun little activity for my daughter and I to do together. We enjoyed playing with it for a while before we sculpted a few things, which I think was a good idea because it helped soften up the clay. We started with a rolling pin and some fun cookie cutters and made different pieces. Once we made those my daughters imagination starting working and wanted to make different objects. I loved seeing her get so excited and get creative! The clay is very easy to work with and does not have much of a smell. We baked our creations according to the instructions and everything came out great! The shaping was still perfect and it all cooked evenly. After cooling, we painted our creations which was just as much fun! We loved this activity and we we still have lots of ... MoreThis was a fun little activity for my daughter and I to do together. I got the Sculpey Clay for my 3 kids. They all just love playing with these type of products (clay, slime, kinetic sand.) The directions say to cut a piece off and knead it as its somewhat brittle before hand. once working to a mushy consistency it was a blast to shape. As someone who isn't very crafty, this clay was easy to use and shape. My kids thought so too. Its also paintable, and can color with marker and crayon. Which is awesome. I would recommend that when making whatever you wish to make sure you adhere whatever your making to each piece. After baking like the instruction list the piece broke off. no big deal. That is what glue is for.
I'm no professional/expert. I just wanted to make some Christmas Ornaments and needed a basic color for the background. I bought this because it was the cheapest and I didn't need to worry much about forming it. It was VERY easy to use. I ended up using it to make some of the pictures as well and found it easy to mold into shapes as well. I definitely don't feel I would need anything more expensive to make quality items, and I preferred this to the other main "f" brand (that I used for some of the colors).
Yesterday afternoon I tried out my Original Sculpey Oven Bake Clay. I made a few flowers. The clay is very mold able and has a great consistency. It is easy to work with and has no smell. There is only a light residue which remains on your hands after using the clay. The one pound block of clay could provide enough clay to make quite a few things. I made the three flowers and still had more that half of the block left. The clay stays moist when being left out and is reusable. I look forward to baking my flowers to harden them and then coat them so that I can paint them different colors. It’s very relaxing and soothing working with clay, I think I have found my new hobby! I will be purchasing many more Sculpey products in the near future.
I have been using the Original Sculpey for over a year now for Christmas ornaments, miniatures and jewelry. I very much like that it can be formed into anything that I can imagine, painted, tinted...anything that works with polymer. I also have a granddaughter, age 11, who has started making items with the Polymer Clay. It's easy on the hands, too!
... And there's only one thing better than Sculpey ... BULK Sculpey! Yeah, you can buy bulkier Sculpey online for way less, but if you're the kind of maker who buys Sculpey in bulk, then you have Michael's rewards, which'll bring the price per lb way, way down. Wait, did I say there's only ONE thing better than Sculpey? Ooops, I was wrong! CHEAP BULK Sculpey is the BEST thing, ever!
I am a professional figurine artist...and although I have used other Polmer Clay products....I prefer SUPER SCULPEY. becaluse it is easly to work with. However, I had a problem finding a distributer who sold me fresh polmer Sculpey clay. I purchased from at least 5 other sources through the years and it was always too hard to sculpt with without... working with the clay until it got soft enough to sculpt something.I would go as far as beating the Super Sculpey with a hammer to soften it until soft enough. My sister is an artist in Wisconsin and she sent me a BLICK Art Catalog this summer and I decided to try ordering from Blick....I was AMAZED at how fresh it was AND how cheap it was AND shipping was free.Needless to say...I will reorder Sculpey soon.P.S. ... MoreI am a professional figurine artist...and although I have used other Polmer Clay products....I prefer SUPER SCULPEY. becaluse it is easly to work with.
