I bought this catana 1000 for ice fishing as a dead stick reel on a med rod for game fish using an I fish pro tip up setup thinking it was the size of a Sahara 1000. It's more like a 550 size if that makes sense. It's in between shimanos 500 and 1000 in size. The drag knob is the same as the one on my sienna 500 Fg, but the spool is slightly bigger. So on my med-light jigging rap rod it goes. Good reel if your looking for a tweener.

Nice little Reel, well made as are all Shimano reels. I was however surprised that there is no back -wind facility which will restrict it usage. However this is reflected in the price.

Really great product.
For the money, this is a really great value reel. The cast & retrieve feels smooth, there's some decent grunt behind in the drag and it feels nice in the hand. All in all, it's one of those rare beasts; a top little reel for an great price. Delivery was seamless too. Many thanks!
