Converted a later model 3x10 drivetrain to a 1x10. Needed just a bit more range for climbing. Bought the 11-42 and it is exactly what I needed! The rear mech is an XT M-786 (I believe) that says max cog size is 36.Originally, bought it with a longer "b screw", but the shifting did not meet my high standards, so I added a Wolf Tooth Goatlink and it's great now!

For what it is worth-"excellent in terms of upgrade".I was looking for an upgrade from 2x10 drivetrain to a 1x10 system. This cassette provided me exactly the opportunity and spare part required. The upgrade gave me a granny gear with 46T and now I can conquer the brutal climbs with much ease. The cassette quality is decent, though a tad softer for the trails that I indulge in. That is because, it is on lower side of Deore seriesi.e. M4100. I was looking for a cassette from series higher than M4100, and was ready to pay more than the 3500 chips, that I paid for this one. However, I could not find one, so settled for the M4100. This is a decent cassette for the price (3500INR) that it is available on Cyclop. A cassette from higher up series would have been more ... A cassette from higher up series would have been more sturdier, even though more expensive. This M4100 cassette should be fine, if not subjected to too much torture, though I would still be at worry, because my biking is totally off road, consisting of rocks, pebbles and tree roots. With a bit of care, I hope that I will be able to manage it for some good time.Installation was fairly easy at home with a Icetoolz Shimano Cassette Lockring Tool purchased from Cyclop, and a 21mm spanner.WORDS OF CAUTION:- Adjustments were not that breeze though, and I ran into some issues. You would be needing a long cage derailleur (SGS from Shimano). Besides, you may have to either use a derailleur hanger extension or a B tension screw of at least 25mm (the 20mm did not work in my case, so that to swap it for a 25 mm one). Also, it is best if you get a new chain too. Continuing with old chain will give you problem, as the granny clog (46T) would be needing some more links than presently available on your existing chain. The shifting is top notch and precise. If it is not, check for hanger alignment.Over all an excellent cassette, if not perfect in terms of sturdiness....

Took bike & cassette to bike shop for install and they advised that not only would it not work with my 10 speed XO derailleur, but after research, it would not work with ANY other derailleur/drivetrain rendering the part TOTALLY useless. NOWHERE in the item description does it advise what drivetrains it would work with, only HG hub and chain. Attempted to return the cassette through return center and was issued a return number without paid shipping. Called the Cambria customer service line three times and got "Tim's" voice mail. Left a message and NEVER got a call back! Exceptionally poor customer service and professionalism. Tried to mail cassette back and cheapest rate was $21.70. This means I would have paid $28.70 for nothing on a $44.99 part to be returned that ... Apparently I am stuck with this non-functional part and Cambria doesn't care since they got my money.

Solid Shimano product as usual, but the 11-46T is a bit odd - the jump up from the 9th cog to the 10th 46T cog is massive. Some other 11-46T models have more even jumps between cogs.
I'm still dialing in the settings but the 42 tooth ring is getting me up the hills. 15 to 20 % hills. If you are replacing a smaller cog set you will need a longer dogbone in the derailluer hanger. Research Wolftooth Goat 10Climb on Dudes and Dudettes 👍😎
Great durability cassette, about 70 grams heavier than the cs-sg500, which has an aluminum 42t cog instead of a steel one. What I like about the Shimano 11-42 10 speed cassettes is that the second cog is a 37t, while most other brands utilize a 36t. This helps grinding up steep trails when shifting back and forth between 1st and 2nd gear.
I bought this for a gravel conversion on a 90s hybrid bike. Great option for a 1x drivetrain on a budget. Smooth shifting at a great price when I paired it with a deore derailleur and some microshift drop bar shifters .
I set this cassette up with a brand new brand new 10 speed shimano hg95 chain new 34t chainring brand new derailleur m5120 rated at 46t and XT 10-speed shifters. The second sprocket is too close to the first which results in continual rubbing of the 10 speed Shimano chain against the side of the largest sprocket. This means the drivetrain makes a continual racket and I am sure it will lead to premature failure of the chain as it is continually rubbing against the chain pins Adjusting the chainline and barrel ajuster will not fix this problem. I am an experienced mechanic and this should not be the case and Shimano provide no direct contact support the issues or faults with their product, they only direct you to other bike shops on their website who do not provide ... The 11-46 provides a very useable spread for a 1x setup. If you are a die-hard 10-speed rider, and you favor Shimano, choices are limited. You will not mistake the shifting performance of this cassette for an XT, but the XT is not available in this ratio. I weighed this at 510 grams, so not light. All that aside, it is good for what it is. Maybe five-star in it's class if it was not so expensive. Next time, I'll probably go back to Microshift.
Ordered this product namely due to quality and price.Fitting and setting up was quite difficult due to achieving the correct chainline.
