This is an amazing reel. It maximizes casting distance and does a tremendous job preventing backlashes. I have tried to purposely backlash it and never did. It is a great reel to start leaning how to cast a baitcaster. You can cast a 1/8 crankbait on a moderate heavy fast action rod probably 30 feet, where with a regular baitcaster it wouldn’t go 10 unless you have lottery winning luck. As for the negative review not to bash Tony but he probably didn’t set up the baitcaster right. It does make noise but that is the computer chip inside and I know me and numerous other people like the noise. At this price point there is no better reel out there, Shimano hit a homerun here.The Curado can even give some reels double it's price a run for the money. The DC braking system allows this reel to be enjoyed by even beginners into the world of bait casters, and once you dial in a bait caster, you will never look at a spinning reel again.If your on the fence about this reel, we'll get off of it, it is an amazing reel.I'm using mine with a 7'1" MojoBass MH Fast, and I am having a field day with it!

Bought the Curado 150 DC HG New from BCF. Used frequently in salt water and cleaned as per instructions. Reel started showing issues after only 2.5 months of use. There is a lot of water ingress to the inside of the reel that causes corrosion and damage. Self serviced the reel as I have done with my gear for 30+ years. Reel continued to fail and also began corroding and bubbling on main Reel frame. Discussed with BCF as advised and sent the reel into Shimano for replacement. It seems that regardless of personal servicing experience that any non approved servicing will not allow Warranty to be honored. Had poor response from Shimano and asked for resolution to be escalated to senior management. I bought this about 2 years ago when I was still new to using a baitcaster. I will be honest, those videos on youtube where they cast it, don't thumb stop it, and it doesn't backlash are a little deceiving. But regardless, you will never get a terrible birdsnest no matter how hard you cast it *if tuned right. Some people don't like the sound, I love it but its not that big of a hinder anyway. It's a great reel that if you plan on using as your main baitcaster, is a great investment.-A happy angler from Texas

I read the directions several times on how to adjust it and did it the way it said - adjust the cast control knob until there is no rattling or axial movement of the spool. Took it back to BPS today to either exchange it or get my money back but first I talked to the guy at the reel counter. He has two of them and he loves them. He tightened my cast control knob at least 1 more round. We took it out back and on #2 setting - I have copolymer line it cast like a dream. I don't even have to thumb the spool and the end of a cast. I took a chance and bought the Curado DC after wearing out a few of my older bait cast reels. I was definitely impressed by its smoothness. But I was really impressed when I took my eight year old nephew striper fishing. While I was rigging up his rod I hear the sound of the reel and that little sucker is casting it out like a champ. He had never used a bait caster in his life and I would not have taught him with that reel because it was spooled with braid. I let him finish up that trip using the Curado because I was curious to see how long it would take him to backlash it. He never did, and that kid can backlash a spinning reel in a heartbeat. Would I buy one for a kid, "Heck no". But its nice to know the braking system is that good, that you could. I have fished with Shimano reels for years, was super excited to try this reel out. While I like it, it wasn’t quite the game changer I thought it would be. Really anticipated buying eight more to replace my old reels. Not doing that just yet. Reel is smooth and does well on finesse baits. Still manage some loose line at times.
Good consistent casting reel. Is it backlash foolproof? No! Like any other bait aster, if you get in a hurry, force casts, throw erratically you're going to have some backlashes but this will eliminate many or at least lessen their severity. Good reel, good value.
Great reel need to buy another spool to change the strength of braid - have 20lb on now but need around 10lb for flatheads, whiting etc.Luring with this reel is very good just make sure you have the right rod - Bass Para 6’3” is a beauty!Even if you have never thrown a baitcaster just put in setting 4 and you will not get a bird’s nestThis is the fourth Shimano baitcaster- still two in action but this reel surpasses all predecessors - the lads were using spin reels and with this reel / rod combination it was easily getting more hook ups than theirs.Truly a piece of precision engineering- love it!
