Shimano’s RC9 S-PHYRE Cycling Shoe is becoming well known for its glistening blue presence at the front of the pack and is quickly becoming what may very well be a legacy-shoe that holds its dedicated space in cycling lore. Stepping into the RC9 is a unique experience, as comfort is immediate, and you can vividly imagine pro-level accelerations on your race-rides. Shimano uses a 360-degree fit optimization that unifies all the individual components on the shoe to become one complete system, engineered to provide stability and maximum power transfer on the pedals. The integrated midsole and upper material comfortably envelop your foot for a secure hold, while the dual Boa Li2 dials and PowerZone wiring guide cinch down for the optimum tension. Precision cable tension is a critical performance tool, whether you are unwinding from an epic five-hour climbing session or torquing down for a finish sprint in the criterium. Shimano elevates the carbon era with a supremely rigid sole that tests at a stiffness of twelve, meaning you’ll never doubt whether your efforts are going into the pedals. A unique trait for the RC9 is the incorporation of the Anti-twist heel stabilizer that holds the foot in place while performing high-cadence accelerations. Heel control is not an overly focused target of improvement, as modern-day training plans and single-ring gear ratios push normalized cadences higher and higher. Visual upgrades include more refined venting hole placements and sleeker-looking logo placement, both of which set the RC9 as a visual icon in the peloton.

Bought these around 6 weeks ago.My first pair of carbon soled road shoes.Did the usual research and was a little apprehensive about the 12/12 stiffness tag attached to these as I was looking to wear them on longer rides (5-6 hours). However, I needn’t have worried. They are super comfy despite the narrow fit and I particularly like the double BOA fastening system as this allows the fine adjustments on the go as well as making them easy to put on and take off before and after rides.I would highly recommend buying and using this product but do take heed and go a size up (I am usually a 46 but ordered 47 as per respect advice.Delivery was also safe and speedy via courier although the £10 was a little pricey.Overall would definitely use Sigma again.

These were my first pair of top tier cycling shoes. I was quite impressed with the feel overall, it was secure but not restrictive enough to feel like the sizing was wrong. One of the noticeable differences from my previous pair of shoes these are narrower overall. So much so that asking the misses about it and she said the same thing. Even at low tensions on the BOA dials my feet were definitely secured in the shoe and it felt comfortable. A problem I ran into though was after 30m (trainer only) my toes would go numb.As much as I would have like to think it was my fault for this, I tried to change my cleat positions a few times, lower tension on the BOA dials (I tend to like them tight), and even restricting my power output. Going back to my Fiziks (not wide versions I should add) I had no issues riding for hours on the trainer or outdoors with foot numbness. Overall the fit was great, but the narrow design caused issues for me.

I was never fortunate enough to experience the previous model of the S-Phyre's so I can't comment on the differences between the two. However, having spent time and money on a couple of other cheaper models, inc. the Shimano RC5's whilst trying to find a decent pair of shoes, I have no qualms about stating that you get what you pay for here. Before purchasing these, I used and still do use, a pair of Giro Empire lace ups, which are very comfortable. But, I wanted something to use on the road and regularly on the turbo, and not have to spend time doing up and undoing the laces, plus have something that I can tweak whilst on the bike should the pressure build up or the shoe feel loose.I guess I have 'normal width' feet as these feel ok to me, e.g. my feet don't ... I'm normally a size 9 (eu43) in a trainer or normal shoe, and ordered a size eu44 for this road shoe. It fits just fine, with enough wriggle room. The fact that it has two BOA dials that can be tightened or loosened without having to start from scratch, allows for that fine tuning once you've been riding for 20 mins or so and your feet begin to react with the heat/cold/pressure etc.Unlike the RC5, they're easy to get on and off. They come with an additional arch support for those with a deeper arch, and also a bag to keep them as they should be. I didn't get on with the RC5's. As a few others stated in reviews, the single top BOA dial didn't allow for that tuning, and I got pressure points across the top of my foot. The S-Phyre's also have the option for replaceable heels, the RC5's were moulded as one.Would I normally spend £300+ on a pair of road shoes? No. Did I feel like I needed to, to get what I wanted? Yes. Do I have any complaints about doing so with these? Nope.Would recommend.

Great shoe. Fit is spot on. They look great, make me feel like a pro. The price is unbeatable. This is the third pair of Shimano shoes I've owned. The first two pairs lasted 6-7 years over 20K mies cycled. LOOK cleates fit perfectly. Will buy again in 6 years.
Bonafide upgrade vs. my Specialized Expert Road shoes which have a carbon fibre sole are very good in their own right. The S-Phyres are materially stiffer, and it makes a difference. I noticed this on my indoor trainer, where any given resistance level seemed more manageable. I believe the snug fit also contributes to this. The wrap around design with 2 Boa dials is superior to the 1 Boa dial and velcro strap system on my expert road shoes. I found the sizing to be a bit small and opted to go up a size to 44 to be on the safe side. If 43.5 was available, this would have been perfect. Not an issue since my foot is a touch on the wide side, and the 2 Boa dials more than make up for a half size too big. Very happy with these shoes and highly recommend!!
I am puzzled by some of the negative reviews on the S-phyre because I really like these shoes! I bounce back and forth between Sidi and Shimano as I find these two brands fit my narrow foot the best. The fit and quality is excellent and I really like the BOA system, which I believe provides just the right amount of tension for a snug fit. Be careful not to over tighten. My only regret was going to a local shop and paying for custom insoles. Ultimately, I didn?t find much of an improvement over the Shimano insole and could have saved some money. This might have more to do with the shop, but need less to say, the Shimano insole provides a good fit and excellent comfort similar to my last pair of Shimano shoes, I expect many miles of comfortable riding ahead.
Extremely comfortable!! First ride with these and zero foot pain after 3-1/2 hours of continuous pedaling. These are worth every penny! The sizing seems true to size. Both my husband and I wear this RC902 model. I'm female and I cannot wear women's road shoes because they are almost always too narrow. These are not narrow and have enough width and length. I do wear a 38 in Specialized road shoes, but these RC902's I wear a 39. There is about 1/4" of extra space in the toe but I don't notice it and I can wear thicker socks with still enough toe room. I'm just amazed how comfortable these are while racing under hard power and the overall fit with the micro adjustments! The quality of these shoes is top-notch in fit and finish. Highly recommend this RC902 S-PYHRE for ... MoreExtremely comfortable!! First ride with these and zero foot pain after 3-1/2 hours of continuous pedaling. These are worth every penny! True to size. Excellent product. Stiff as before. I have not yet worn this long enough to provide a detailed review. However, I am a proud owner of 2 RC9 shoes (both in white and black) since 2019 and 2020 and I never had any issues (heel slipping out nor hot spots). I’m hoping the RC902 will not disappoint and will have the same quality as my previous pairs and will have no other issue(s). I would’ve purchased the RC903 but Shimano did not offer them in my size (40.5). Hopefully Shimano will consider offering them in my size on their future road shoes when I’m ready to replace them.
As a woman with wider feet, I have always found Shimano’s men’s shoes fit me quite well. The toe box is roomy and the shoe wraps around my feet very comfortably. I’ve had no issues with any hot spots and power transfer feels excellent. My only other pair of shimano shoes are the gravel rx8s. In comparison, I would say the fit is similar and I wear the same size for both, but the RX8 actually feels somewhat narrower at the heel.
I ended up with 3 options, Sidi Shot 2, RC902, Fizik R1 (New version)Having had Sidi wire carbon for 5 years, Sidi was the obvious choice however when comparing all 3 the sidi don't look as good IMO and aren't actually white, I also don't like the velcro on the tongue part. Fizik as ever look classy but I felt they were just a little loose, as for the Shimano they look fantastic, fitted the best and won me over. All shoes were 45 but with the Shimano I went wide as I felt this just allowed my toes to wiggle a little more freely, I always felt they were a little tight in the Sidi and I felt the Shimano 45 were narrower. The fit is lovely, they are really comfortable and solid, couldn't say if they were more solid that the Sidi mind you and OK up till now longest I ... They feel very planted on your feet and have a real good grip on your ankle. I do prefer the Boa than the Sidi system, so much easier to use. Cleat position is great, no need to adjust the top bolt either. All in all for me these new Sphyre shoes are amazing and would highly recommend them but and there is always a but, for a pair of shoes costing £320 and being the top level shoe there is one little niggle, the material that the wraps around your foot. Having tried a pair on after getting off the turbo, I noticed they had marked very easily, Sigma as ever were very good and as I hadn't worn the shoes on the bike accepted them back and replaced them as we deemed it to be a one off, but its not. I have worn my shoes 4 times, only in the dry and not gone through any water and you will see from the pictures how the material has started mark. I accept it's a small thing but what will they be like after a downpour?? I would imagine MvDP and WVA must have a new pair every time they turn up on the start line as after Milan San remo there was no way they would have been white. As I say this is in the only fault for me in them for me and while over time they will get dirty, this was noticeable to me after 1 ride I did consider the red and while a nice colour, they are very much "look at me" also don't come in wide.
