The convex cut of the blade together with the manual honing of each Shun knife delivers an unrivalled sharpness that allows the knife to cut through even the toughest material. This sharpness together with the well-balanced weight of the knife makes for tireless work. Each Shun knife gets its unique and individual character by refining the natural beauty of the damask grain. This way every Shun knife is unmistakable and unique – a piece of art, united by craftsmanship, technology and design. Inspired by the masterful art of Samurai swords the technique for manufacturing the finest chef’s knives enables the Shun series even to deliver knives with western blade shapes.

Absolutely amazing knife will cut through the softest bread without squashing it or the hardest sourdough crust so easily. The folded metal design on the blade is lovely. Handle is comfy and nicely balanced. The final knife in my Shun collection. All are great would highly recommend x

The Shun bread knife is a very sharp knife and makes light work of any bread. The perfect slices every time! I have two other Shun knives and they are among the sharpest knives I have. Meal preparation is quick, safe and a joy.

Only good things to say about shun knives. This bread knife is a lot larger in person and so beautiful. It cuts heavenly. It is very sharp so because of that there are less crumbs when cutting bread. The knife is stunning. It’s a beautiful piece to use around guests. I love it. I own many pieces from this line. They are so nice to have. They work great. I don’t put them in the dishwasher bc it will ruin the knife and the dishwasher dulls the blade on knives. Only hand wash these.

I have eleven shun classic knives. I bought the classic line because they were the original shuns and have a CLASSIC understated look. Great quality which you expect and each knife is absolutly perfect which you do not expect these days.
I bought this knife in Australia and was amazed by how quickly it arrived. I bought it because my husband is left handed and I make sourdough bread which is quite hard for him to cut with a single beveled right hand knife. This being double beveled is great for the both of us and cuts through my crusty bread like it’s butter. It is also just a gorgeous looking knife.
I bake buckwheat bread and leave it on a chopping block on the counter, cut side down. It can get very crusty, dry and stiff. Getting the Shun Classic 9" serrated bread knife has been a game changer. It's big, heavy and powerful and it cuts the stiffest bread easily and smoothly. I definitely recommend it. The fact that it's very handsome doesn't hurt either.
This is by far the best bread knife I ever purchased. Husband makes a mean sourdough and this knife cuts threw it like butter. No ripping and tearing of crust or bread, it slides right threw. Softer breads it handles just as nice.
I got this as a gift a month ago and I have been using this for a month, almost daily, exclusively for slicing bread (sourdough bread mostly). True to the description, this knife cuts cleanly through the bread, very comfortable grip and heavy enough for steady slicing. It is super sharp and my friend did cut himself (the cut was so smooth he didn't realize it for sometime until he stained my sofa !). I hope the knife stays as sharp. I love my Shun knife..hope to use it for a long time.
I don't think that anyone needs a lot of knives, but one or two chef's knives, a paring knife, and a bread knife are vital. This rounds out my Shun collection, and I couldn't be happier. Not sure if I actually need the layered steel construction, but why not, since the Shun knives are so gorgeous to look at. I do worry about sharpening the bread knife, but when used as it should be on relatively soft foods, on a wooden cutting board, it should stay sharp for years.
We used our old bread knife then tried the Shun knife. What a difference! Instead of shredding the bread, it sliced cleanly through. Could cut a paper-thin slice of bread! What an amazing difference!
