Hi, I never write reviews, but wanted to share my review because it might help others to make the leap to purchase a Manta Sleep Mask. I was pretty skeptical about paying so much for a sleep mask but I am a travel agent and travel all of the time in all kinds of conditions and really need to sleep once I arrive at my destination (wherever or whatever time that it might be).The beautiful, silk mask and the functional, weighted mask are very different in feel and structure, but they both completely block out all light and are very comfortable and I’m able to get great sleep, whether I am on a train, plane or automobile. Your masks are a game-changer for me whether I am at home or on the road!

The eye cups are NOT silk. They are satin polyester. Completely deceptive advertising. I bought the Silk mask specifically for the eye cups to use with the Sound mask - since they don’t offer “silk” eye cups for separate purchase - because I’m careful with my skin and wanted the benefits of the silk. I even sent an email to customer service asking why they didn’t offer silk eye cups for separate purchase and the rep didn’t bother to correct me. Just offered me a discount to buy both masks.Now I see why - the silk eye cups don’t exist!! The rep should have said “oh, the cups are not silk just the mask so it’s not worth it to buy the mask just for the eye cups,” but they didn’t. I have worn a sleep mask for years. Have never found one that stays put, is cooling, and is comfortable no matter what position I am sleeping in. Enter Manta Silk. I was hesitant at first to spend this much on a sleep mask. I now wish I had bought 2! I have never slept better and am no longer getting up 2 or 3 times in the night to adjust my mask. This mask stays put no matter if you are on your side, stomach or back sleeping. I toss and turn less because I am getting more restful sleep. The only downfall is that when you wash you Manta Silk you will miss a night of good sleep while it air dries. I truly wish I had gotten two from the onset!

I have to use an eye make because my traumatic brain injury causes my eyes to lose their moisture (I even have to use Systane gel and Glad Wrap to seal my eyes shut). Typically, I've been using the Manta silk mask this way for the last month or so. Keep in mind all four of my tear ducts are plugged. One night I tried simply using double Systane Ultra drops, then using the silk eye cover. Next morning, I was really surprised at how dry my eyes were, despite the eye covers inside the mask. This is in comparison to the cotton/foam mask that I had been using before, which did not dry my eyes nearly as bad. This is not to say the silk mask is uncomfortable; it does not have metallic adjustments at all, which is great. I am simply confused as to how the eye cover portion ... Customer service is exceptional. However the mask itself not so much. For $70 I was expecting something extraordinary. Its too bulky. I have to make it very tight in order to achieve full blackout and to be able to change sleeping postures without it letting light come in. This causes pressure on my head, nose and orbitals. This pressure makes me feel my own pulse/palpitations in my head and nose. Also I was usually a back sleeper but after using the mask for several weeks Ive found myself avoiding sleeping on my back because of the bulky strap at the back of the head. Finally, The strap is so wide and thick that i find myself constantly switching between putting it over my ears and behind my ears. Great mask! I’m unable to sleep if there is even the slightest amount of light. Had used another mask for years, but it bothered my eyes & the fabric was really hot & it also couldn’t be machine washed. Don’t recall how I learned about Manta masks, but so glad I did!!! The eye cups are amazing & I love that they are machine washable!! The silk mask is very soft & is very cool to wear in the summer. Like all the manta masks, this does a great job of blocking out light. The silk mask, in particular, is a great summer mask. It also stays on all night! I’ve had other masks that slip off while sleeping but have not had that problem with the Manta masks. Thank you Manta Sleep!!
I bought this mask in May. I don’t really need a sleep mask, but this was recommended for helping protect lash extensions whilst sleeping. I still don’t NEED a sleep mask, but I sleep so much better with this that I struggle to sleep without it.Silk is, of course, a delicate fabric, but the Velcro really snagged the strap up quickly. Which is fine - I don’t really care what it looks like given it is me and my dog. What is disappointing is how quickly the Velcro has lost its grip.Admittedly, I like it tight because I generally always have a tension headache and the pressure feels good. I am very happy with my sleep mask. I have tried a couple of different variants of the Manta sleep masks, and I couldn't use the other ones since I sleep on my stomach, which causes the bottom cup to press into my face. The silk cups, however, are soft enough that I'm not bothered by the cups, even when sleeping on my stomach. I was more bothered by the band, since when tightening it in the natural straight back position it goes over my ears. When lying with one ear facing the mattress a would wake up after a couple of hours with a slight pain in the ear. I solved that by lowering the band to the top of my neck instead. It does not give quite as tight a seal as when the band goes straight back, but it is still very dark.
This is my 3rd mask from Manta. I really wanted to love it but it has a flaw in the Velcro straps. The grippy part of the Velcro is so small that multiple times at night it has unhooked while I’m sleeping. This obviously causes it to get light leaks or the very worst it falls off at night. My other two didn’t have this issue but they also had a larger piece of the grippy part of the Velcro sewn on. This seems to be a simple fix, not sure why this mask is so expensive yet they changed the length of the Velcro. Now I’m stuck with this mask and went back to my old Mantas. I’m hesitant to buy the sound one to only have the same issue as the silk. I have attached a photo to show the difference between my older manta mask and the silk one.
I was so excited to finally get this mask after hearing such glowing reviews about this brand; as someone who is sensitive to light fluctuations and also has pretty sensitive skin, I was really happy to see a silk option available and willing to invest the money into an all-around better sleep experience than the $10 satin mask I've been using that's been slowly falling apart. I was pretty disappointed to find when finally using this mask that the eye cups wouldn't completely block out light coming in at the sides even while laying on my back, no matter how many different ways I tried to readjust them; they're basically like the cushions on over-ear headphones, but way stiffer and worse, and don't mold at all to your face, which seems like a poor design choice. You have to wear the strap quite tightly to "force" the cups into your face, which would likely counteract any skin-preserving benefits of the silk material; the silk itself on the eye cups is also not smooth at all, with a fairly porous/rough/absorbent weave (more than I've ever experienced with anything made of silk or satin before), making it kind of pointless for anyone with sensitive skin or hoping to prevent aging. The eye cups were also too shallow for me to comfortably blink and my lashes kept getting caught. I'm not a super picky or difficult person when it comes to these sorts of things generally, but I do expect an $87 sleep mask to actually do what it says and feel worth the price. After trying to make this mask work for 30 minutes or so, I ended up just taking it off and putting on my much more comfortable and skin-friendly $10 satin mask and had a much easier time sleeping, even with all the light flooding in from the bottom. I gave two stars because the packaging was nice, and customer service was quick and helpful when I made a mistake while placing my order.
