We've had many microwaves in our lives and this SMEG microwave has a really nice and user-friendly way of setting the amount of seconds/minutes. You press just one button that adds increments of 30 seconds. It's very fast. On the down side, when heating up food for more than 3 minutes, the inside gets very moist and sometimes even has small puddles of water on the tray. We have to constantly leave the door open for it to dry inside. We have never had that problem ever in a microwave, so not sure what is causing it. Maybe because it's a dual microwave/oven?

This is a great microwave - so easy to operate and worth the money. I have previously bought my microwaves from K-Mart however this one does it all and the grill option is awesome. The sale process was also excellent - pay, pick-up and off we go. The staff were so polite and helpful as I had never done click and collect before. I would definitely do this again if I need anything else during lockdown. Thank you Harvey Norman :)

I advise against buying this product for the following reasons.In the shop at Harvey Norman the sales person extolled the virtues of this product having a grill and microwave combination function and in the HN product description it says: “This Smeg 34L Microwave has a grill function, allowing you to place food on a metal rack within the microwave for even cooking”. Indeed the unit has a “Grill/combi” function with selections of grill and micro power for example 55% micro 45% grill. So one can reasonably assume as a sales person and customer, that one can grill and micro concurrently. To effectively use the grill you must put the metal rack in the oven so the food is in proximity of the grill. I wrote to Smeg AU for clarification but they did not reply.Another minor annoyance is the microwave power always defaults back to minimum (100W) when using the microwave selector option to set power. I would suggest as a more logical option, it should default to the highest or remain in the last selected setting.Then there is the other issue of condensation that many other reviewers have mentioned. The elderly and those with bad eyesight will certainly have a problem operating this unit. You also have to cycle through the power settings BEFORE you can set the cooking time. If you want to select 1000w it means you have to press the button 5 times before turning the timer dial. In this case the addition of a fast cook function is helpful, but you can't find it easily because all the buttons look the same. Annoying that in this day and age a manufacturer still makes a machine with such a learning curve.I'm sure I'll get used to its shortcomings over time, but should I have to?

I was going to leave an excellent review of this Smeg microwave but having read other reviews I have to agree it does have an issue with condensation, but I've also experienced this with other microwaves. Easy to use, intuitive, good looking. Internal light has just stopped working a few months after the end of the extended warranty! Overall though our family likes it.
This microwave is the newer version of my previous microwave oven with a built in surround. The newer version, however is smaller, therefore the surround is not only larger, but it has "airholes" either side of the oven that look awful. (the previous oven did not have this appearance, but the surround was flush). So to pay $450 for a piece of aluminium that is incredibly ugly is totally ridiculous! This is more than the price of the oven itself. The dials are more complex and fairly useless compared to its predecessor. I would advise against buying this oven or buy it without a surround and it wont look any worse than with it! (and it will be les than half the price)
Just don't. You can't read the button labels unless you have a spotlight and a magnifying glass. To set a 40 second timer. press "microwave" turn the knob anti-clockwise one notch (full power) press "confirm" then turn the knob clockwise 8 notches for 40 seconds, press "confirm" Did the designers of this thing ever use a microwave? Buy an LG or whirlpool. to get the same result you dial the knob to 30 secs and press start. Avoid unless you are a masochist.
It’s nice to look at and does it’s job, the only thing I don’t like is the condensation it leaves behind and the fingerprints are really noticeable on the face after each use. It’s okay we wipe it down after each use so I guess it’s fine. Haven’t used the grill feature yet. It’s very user friendly and easy to use.
