Pros: Makes excellent filter coffee. No drip design when the carafe is removed. Surprising number of features that I wouldn't have expected on what looks like a relatively simple filter coffee machine including, start timer, water hardness selection, beep mute option and coffee intensity which varies the speed of hot water dispensing onto the coffee and pauses the dispensing as well to allow the coffee to brew slightly longer in the basket. The 4 cup coffee option I initially thought was something to do with the speed of water dispensing if only 4 cups of water was added to the reservoir, however it actually only dispenses 4 cups of water as well even if the reservoir was topped up to 10 cups.I use disposable paper filters instead of the stainless mesh basket that ... MorePros: Makes excellent filter coffee. For convenience and saves washing the basket.Cons: As per other reviews, its a little awkward to fill the reservoir right handed whilst being able to watch the water level gauge. But you get used to doing it with your left hand. The shape of the carafe whilst it looks nice, doesn't allow the last few spoonful of coffee to be decanted without completely inverting it. Only noticeable in the middle of the night but the fluorescent display does emit a low buzzing noise.

Pros: The styling is the icing on the cake, of a very well constructed appliance.Cons: The warming period, post coffee production only lasts 40 mins. If this could be extended to a couple of hours, or even better adjustable up to that time that would greatly improve the functionality of this great product.

Pros: Looks fabulousCons: The amount of plastic inside the kettle is high. You’d expect a good solid metal kettle for the price & name. It’s been proven that heated plastics release nano particles, which we consume, causing health issues, this is my complaint. SMEG should replace the inner plastic with a quality aluminium parts that do not release toxic chemicals!

Pros: It looks fabCons: Had it around 4 weeks, water still has a funny taste because there is a plastic hinge which lifts the lid inside the kettle (first kettle had like this and won’t get another) TBH Smeg have been excellent and sent details so we can report but l suspect all the same. Also lid sticks at times.

Pros: The SMEG kettle in black looks really sleek. SMEG also offer a 2 year warranty so if you buy one go online to register it directly with SMEG. It boils quite quickly and is not too heavy. In addition it does is a good pourer not spilling any water.Cons: It is an expensive kettle compared to others but there always seems to be problems with other kettles. This is the second one I have had from SMEG.

Elaine's review of Smeg 50's Retro Style Kettle

Pros: I've always wanted a Smeg kettle and I love it. It sits well on its base and is easily adjustable round to the way which suits. Pours beautifully. Has had a good amount of use and still looks clean with no scale. I live in a hard water area so for it to still be clean is a credit to the kettle workmanship.Cons: My only gripe is that it's not overly clear to see how full the kettle is on the display. Condensation build up and you end up gauging the level by the clear section as you fill it up. It is pricey for a kettle but it's proved to be worth it.

Pros: It looks great, pours well, doesn’t drip like many do. The filter is easy to remove & reinsert, which others aren’t. It has a 360 degree rotation, so it doesn’t matter (except aesthetically) how you place the kettle on the base. Another review mentioned they didn’t like the handle, ad it’s plastic. Well my reply to that is, would you want a hot metal handle?! Of course it’s plastic, it has to be! Great lid! You press the top circle & it springs open & you close it by pressing the 3 ridges. I love it!Cons: It’s heavier than some, but not too heavy. So maybe for a robust kettle, it needs to be this weight. Reviews say it’s quiet. They must be hard of hearing! Of course there are noisier kettles, but as it boils quickly, it’s not a concern. However, if you can ... MorePros: It looks great, pours well, doesn’t drip like many do. Pros: Stylish looking, very good pourer and quick to boil. Also quite quiet when boiling, certainly not obtrusive.Cons: Drinks don’t seem to keep as hot for as long as they did with my previous kettle so not sure if it is boiling at the correct temperature. I assumed all would boil at 100 degrees but apparently some only heat to 90 degrees ??‍♀

Pros: I love the look of this machine, extremely stylish and timeless. It has a solid, heavy feel to it. It functions well with an authentic old fashioned coffee maker glug sound. I have calculated the exact amount of water and coffee is needed for 2 of my mugs. I set this up the night before as the machine has a simple to use timer. There's nothing like walking into your kitchen filled with coffee aroma whilst still bleary eyed, simple pleasures! I like the fact it keeps the extra coffee in the jug hot enough for when you finish your first mugful. Very easy to clean.Cons: Probably best find yourself a more appropriate jug to fill the reservoir as the glass jug it comes with is too bulky to avoid the lid, clearly not designed for this use but excellent for holding ... MorePros: I love the look of this machine, extremely stylish and timeless. I've drooled over this for ages and decided to splash out and treat myself. So glad I did, makes my kitchen look posh.

Pros: A beautiful looking piece which is Smeg's signature design promise. It makes good coffee and is easy to use. It has a timer you can set to have coffee waiting for you at a set time but you can only set one time. It is not programmable. It requires No4 coffee filters although you can opt not to use them. I use them and my coffee has no sediment, no grains and is smooth to drink.Cons: The coffee it makes is not very hot but if you leave it sit on the hot plate for ten minutes it gets hotter and is more palatable like that. I always warm my cup with hot water before pouring coffee now as I am first up in the morning. I wish it was programmable so you could have coffee at a different set time on weekends and weekdays.
