Finishing up my second ski season with the Photochromatic version. This is hands down the best helmet W/goggles on the market! This Smith helmet checks ALL the boxes!!! From fit, to stylish look and last but not least , the easy transition from day to night ski sessions. WORTH EVERY PENNY! And NO, this hasn’t fogged not once! From 46 to 9 degrees , snowy to misty days this helmet has displayed the same consistent function and protection! And yes, I have had a few yard sales while wearing this helmet.

I bought my SMITH Survey helmet in Val Thorens in France on my second last day of snowboarding. Used it once on the last day and really enjoyed the convenience of easy pulling up and down the visor vs my previous set with separate googles. But when I got home, I found that the component part connecting the visor to the helmet is broken. I am so surprised that it can be broken so easily. I live in Hong Kong and there is no authorised dealer in Hong Kong. And my next snowboarding trip is in 2 weeks time in Japan. I hope I can find a replacement part before my next trip. Can anyone give me any advice?

I recently bought the Smith Survey Mips in Matte Black + ChromaPop Photochromic Rose Flash Lens. First, I love Smith helmets, and this one is no exception. Second, I love the lens - Integrated ChromaPop™ visor lens - great field of view with contrast, color, and terrain-enhancing clarity, as represented on this site. However, if conditions are windy or snowy (at all), snow and wind come in through various gaps and hit your eyes and face. I was skiing in a blizzard two days ago and it made it very difficult, plus the lens started to fog up. In addition, the lens - while amazing - is not great in low light or flat light conditions...and that's a big downer, making it really difficult to see the terrain. It's still a great helmet and the integrated visor/lens is super cool, but if conditions are not ideal be sure to prepare accordingly - bring another helmet and goggles.

I bought the Smith Survey Mips to serve as a winter bicycle helmet as the bicycle industry apparently does not consider bicycling to be a winter activity. The Smith Survey serves very well for this purpose. The visor fits well over my glasses and lets just enough air in from the sides to keep both my glasses and the visor from fogging up. When it rains I close the air vents and I stay dry headed unless it's really pouring, but for the most part my head stays dry. Also when it's forty degrees outside the visor keeps my eyes from getting blasted with cold air that otherwise would obstruct my vision. The ear warmers work very well for bicycling but don't block the sounds of traffic at all. In short the Smith Survey is a great winter bike helmet.
I have been skiing for 40 years and have owned countless pairs of goggles. These are terrible. Snow accumulates inside the lens and you have to stop (which means you have to take the helmet off) and clean out the inside of the lens. It's best to do this in the lodge so you can avoid having a head full of snow when you put the helmet back on. Very annoying. If you look inside on the upper portion of the lens where it meets the helmet, it looks like they put two vent holes. Normally vent holes on goggles have a very thin mesh cover on them to prevent snow from getting in. These don't. The helmet also has two vent holes in the front of the helmet. These can't be closed when you slide the vents shut. I don't know if it's the helmet vents or the goggle vents that are letting the snow in. For $300 buck I'm not covering them with electrical tape to find out. Returning them after two powder days ruined.
I am in love with this helmet, it is so much better than my previous one. It fits great, looks great and the fold down lenses are so convenient. I used to use a separate goggle and helmet system and this is so much easier and less fuss. I ordered a size larger than I thought I needed in order to be able to fit a thin beanie underneath and I made the right choice. My only complaint is the space between the visor and my upper cheek allows cold air in but I think with the right face protection it should be okay. Also I had two Smith bags in the box, not sure if this was an accident or what but I appreciate it all of my other pads fit into it perfectly! Two thumbs up for this helmet and Smith
I wear glasses! I bought this hoping I wouldn’t get fogged up anymore.Yes, I no longer have fogged glasses.Yes, it fits small. I wear medium and bought a large.Yes, try it on and make sure it fits your face and glasses.Yes, the product is comfortableYes, I ski in Tahoe, during some bad storms this year it worked well.Yes, smith has a great warranty and support. No,Yes, some snow might get in between you helmet and forehead. Wear a thin head covering.Yes, it doesn’t seal perfectly around your face like goggles.Yes, replacement visors are a thing if you can find them.Yes, smith seems to struggle with supply chain for replacement lenses.
I recently purchased the new helmet visor combo. I rode it in variable conditions including a big powder day. I have sinus issues and was looking for a solution to have less pressure from goggles on my face. The that manor the product worked great. The only challenges i had were on a big powder day. Due to the goggles not connecting securely to the face it had a tendency to get more snow that i would like. It did clear out easily. In less powdery conditions they worked great. I like the product but will probalbly return to my normal set up on big snow days.
Super excited to try out my new helmet, what a massive disappointment. Had a perfect fresh powder day at the Canyons in Park City, UT on 12/8. Headed up the mountain and immediately started to accumulate snow on the inside of the lens before even getting off the chairlift. It got worse as I skied down. Snow and Ice packed the inside of the lens to the point I couldn't see out. The only way to clear the lens was to take the helmet OFF mid run and try and scrap out the snow and ice. Awful design. Every run all day was the same result. If it's actively snowing or you have opportunity to ski fresh powder leave this helmet at home.
Hmmmm what to say….this helmet isn’t as good as the Vantage straight out of the gate. It seems cheaply made. Very hard to open and close the vents. The visor moves very easily. I haven’t used the helmet on the slopes yet but I foresee an issue with the visor not making a seal around my eyes. I hope that’s not the case but it seems like it might be….. I had really high hopes for this helmet. I’m a bit disappointed because I absolutely love all of Smith’s other stuff. This helmet gets a three star review based on how the helmet is made and the potential issue with the visor not sealing.
