Please note, I have not used this tourniquet TQ on an actual wound. This review is based on my previous experience and training with other TQs and my impression of this one.Basically, this offers all the advantages of a CAT TQ, such as one handed application and windlass operation an absolute must in TQs for personal use since the wound may be on an arm but with several improvements to what I considered shortfalls on the CATs as well. For instance, the smooth plastic windlass is replaced with a metal one that has diamond shaped texture for grip, making it much easier to wind single handed especially when wet or bloody and eliminates a failure point, IE, windlass breakage. The buckles and anchor points are metal as well for added strength. The straps also seem to be ... MorePlease note, I have not used this tourniquet TQ on an actual wound. The straps also seem to be a much higher quality and the extra half inch of width surely means to better blood vessel compression and doesnt seem to cut into the skin as much. The TQ can be folded and packed much flatter as well which is good if you have it in a streamlined pouch. It also comes with 2 UV proof rubber bands, great for people who like to carry TQs on their gear in the open. Yes it is significantly more expensive than a CAT TQ but I for one am willing to spend the 10 on something Im trusting my life to.

It is by far, the best tourniquet on the market. Why? Because it is not only a quality well designed TCCC approved tourniquet, it is also durable, and therefore can be used in training. Constructed of metal and nylon webbing no weak polycarbonate parts it can be used over and over again in training and then used when needed in combat. It is intelligent by design, economical and trainer friendly. Obviously, I am a huge proponent of TRAINING. If you cannot train with the device you carry, it is worthless in my opinion. Tourniquets do not need to be sterile, there are no sterile wounds that require a tourniquet surgery excluded--we are talking battlefield trauma here, therefore a tourniquet I can train with is the tourniquet I will buy. The CAT tourniquet cannot be used in training. According to NAR, it is a one time use only tourniquet, and therefore, once you take it out of the wrapper and use it in training it is worthless. Not so with this SOFTT-W.It can be used in training, and folded again for use later on. How can you top that? You cannot. BUY THIS TOURNIQUET IF YOU WANT THE BEST ON THE MARKET AND IF YOU WANT TO TRAIN TO STANDARD. Throw all others in the trash, and buy this one--or PYNG Medicals MAT, which is also a great tourniquet.

I went from a standard CAT tourniquet to this. This one is hands down the better choice. I am in law enforcement and the CATs Velcro was rubbing on my uniforms, ruining them. This tourniquet is also a heavier duty design with metal clasps and can be put on during an impingement situation. It also fit into the same hard plastic holster as my CAT. Spend the extra money, it could save a life.

Great Quality, easy to pack and carry. I also like that a person can apply it to themself with one hand. I keep it in my E.R. Pack when in remote areas. It is good to have as EDC equipment. The video (link on the MyMedic website) was very helpful in describing and demonstrating how to use it.
Tourniquets are essential for any trauma first aid kit. And there is a big difference in quality between brands. You can skimp on many items but I never would with this. Great to get an official brand.
Last February I had to use my NA CAT TQ. While it worked and saved the person's life the problem I had with it was that when I was securing the windlass the little velcro ring was hard to get done up with all the blood and snow slicking up my hands. The windlass also bent a small amount. This one has some heavy duty aluminum rings to secure the aluminum windlass that seems to have more stippling in it for more grip with nitrile gloves. Hopefully I never have to use it but with practicing so far the windlass is easily secured. The only down I see is that the spot where you are supposed to put time of application is at the end of the strapping. Not a big problem though as I didn't use the time stamp on my CAT I just used the person's forehead.
I have owned Cats and Rats tourniquets for years. After taking a Stop the Bleed class, I was recommended to try SOF-T tourniquets. The instructor was a retired Army medic. He was very knowledgeable and had a tourniquet from almost every manufacturer. He also had fake ones that have been sold on Amazon and EBay. He showed us the telltales on the fakes, instructed us to purchase from synonymous companies on a list he gave us, which included My Medic. He told us the differences in the companies and their products so I bought 2 of these. One to keep in my EDC kit and one in my truck. I plan to buy another 2, one for my gun belt and another for my first aid kit.
The SOF Tactical tourniquet is fantastic quality at a great price, I hope to never have to use it, but it's design and function would make it extremely quick to put on and use should that day ever come. It was a great addition to the rest of my great My Medic first aid gear!
Quality made equipment. Ease of use and application. Designed for durability with quality materials. Application is so easy even my 9 year old son can apply it, and he tried it on me. Works perfectly.
Very easy to fit into pre existing kits or put on an external mount for your pack or belt. It's neat and compact enough to have in your back pocket too so you always have one with you on the trail.I've never used one (fortunately) so I can't speak to the efficacy, but it is approved in the CoTCCC list and is one of the most used tourniquets by military personnel and emergency responders. From my own practice with it, very easy and quick to apply. A must have for any tourniquet.Expensive yes, but it's a whole lot cheaper than living without a leg for the rest of your life. So in regards to its role in a trauma kit, it's a necessity and worth every cent.
