Firstly, the sub mini itself sounds fantastic and is more than enough to fill a small to medium sized living room. The reason for my poor rating is the setup. It took hours and an unsuccessful call to Sonos's helpline. The first problem was the well-document Unifi/Sonos networking mismatch where SonosNET causes infinite loops when there's a mix of wired and wireless Sonos speakers. I made some new ethernet cables and solved that quickly. What took hours was registering the Sub Mini. I use an Android phone and the app just hung on the "Adding Sub Mini to your system" screen. Long time audio enthusiast who recently chose SONOS infrastructure for our new home. I have IKEA surrounds in the living room, along with the BEAM. In our open floorplan, these items integrate nicely with the SONOS 1 that sits above our kitchen cabinets, giving the rooms a ton of great audio from XM, and TIDAL. We play a lot of video games, and the surround audio always adds something that you just miss when using any soundbar. This Christmas I decided to pull the trigger on the SUB MINI when it went on sale. Integration to the app was easy as usual. I placed the very heavy sub in the corner since you really don't need to place it anywhere in particular. So, I read up on whether to pair the Arc with the Gen 3 sub or the sub mini. Online audiophiles recommended that you answer two questions: 1) Size of room and 2) do you want to rattle your neighbors and feel it in your chest. Since my room wasnt large (eg <300â sq) and i didnt want to disturb my neghbors (or wife) i chose the sub mini. Iâm very happy with my choice. After running Truplay set up, the sub adds in the bottom end nicely, filling in the whole in the Arc, to a well balanced signal down to 25hz for movie soundtracks as well as classical symphony. Im thrilled - particularly for not shelling out the extra $400 for the gen3 full sub. Clearly not needed in my scenario. YMMV.

The short version is that the Sonos Sub-Mini when working under the optimum settings sounds rich and smoth, a power in the darkness that only makes itself known when soundtrack requires. In my medium-sized lounge, paired with a Sonos Arc, it proved more than powerful enough. RS were happy to price match Peter Tyson, and arranged delivery for the next day.The more detailed version is that I took a chance on the Sonos Sub-Mini after trawling through umpteen reviews. Around half said that it was excellent with the Sonos Arc, and the other half preferred the bigger Sub (Gen3). A product I regarded as stupidly expnesive. Around half said that it was excellent with the Sonos Arc, and the other half preferred the bigger Sub (Gen3). A product I regarded as stupidly expnesive. My best guess was that the Sub (Gen 3) was for those who want âboom-boom shake the roomâ wheras I only wanted to enhance the Arcâs already superb sound by offloading the lower bass. This was something I was already doing very successfully using an old KEF sub teamed with a new Sonos Amp and Monitor Audio Silver 100 7g speakers. Which, BTW, sounds absolutely fantastic. The Sonos Sub-Mini is about the same dimensions as an old 8 pint party sized beer can, matte black and unobtrusive. Setup with the Arc was easy, with the Sub-Mini being recognised as soon as it was plugged in, then added to the Arc group. The sound produced using settings from YouTube Hi-Fi reviewer Peter Pee proved to be just the job, producing satisfying tactile rumbles at the right time, and allowing the Arcâs own speakers more breathing room for mid range and upper bass. The entire sound was noticeably more expansive. There was a glitch. After 24 hours, for a reason I have yet to fathom, the Sub-Mini stopped receiving from the Arc. I did every test as directed, rebooted and reinstalled, but nothing seemed to work. Then the next morning all was back in good working order! So I am, at this point, assuming that the Sub-Miniâs wireless connection can, on occasions get bumped off the home network. Just in case I now have a wired solution in the form of an ethernet cable going to a Devolo powerline adaptor. Not had to deploy this yet, but feel like Iâm covered as much as I can be. One other thing to know is that in th Sonos App settings, âDisable Wi-Fiâ refers to SonosNet (how the Arc talks to other Sonos components wirelessly, and receives radio) NOT our home Network. So in the event of needing or preferring a wired connection, there is no need to disable Wi-Fi. Indeed, to do so would be quite detrimental.
I have a fair bit of Sonos kit, all bought to enhance the audio from whatever's playing through the TV. My Sub Mini is paired with a Beam on a Samsung 43" QLED TV in our kitchen - the wife wanted more volume so she could hear what she has on the TV when cooking. So I took advantage of Xmas 23 deals. The Sub Mini is pretty good, but perhaps not surprisingly lacks the presence and authority of the larger Sub product. Whilst the sub is described as mini it's not really that small, but I had no problem tucking it behind the TV in the kitchen sitting it on an oak sideboard. As you'd expect build quality is excellent as you'd expect from Sonos and the product was well packaged. Setup was easy which was executed via my Sonos app, and Bluetooth, I had to fiddle around with my phone a bit to get the near field addition of the sub completed - but got there in the end. Overall I'd recommend the Sub Mini for use in music systems, and for enhancing the audio from your TV, but for me personally if I was enhancing / putting in surround sound on my primary viewing system I'd use the Sub as opposed to the Sub Mini for this purpose. I'm writing this review from the perspective of someone who used to sell specialist audiophile equipment - so that may explain my preference for the more expensive Sonos products - I have two of the larger Subs in seperate systems.
I have this paired with the Beam Gen 2 and this is one solid sounding sub and a very compact cabinet. Yes, I did want the Gen 3 but that was out of the budget and out of the wife's spatial approval factor. I was very worried that this would be way undersized for my 15' x 30' open living/kitchen area. Many say this mini has no change in their bass response, but I disagree and highly encourage you to follow the "location location location" saying. I indeed had to test 4 different spots until I found the sweet spot, because yes, the 1st spot was a complete dead zone. Now that it is placed correctly I can hear outstanding bass for the size of this thing and hear all of the missing low end of music and movies. Now that it is placed correctly I can hear outstanding bass for the size of this thing and hear all of the missing low end of music and movies. One important note - do yourself a favor and invest in lossless audio, specifically FLAC & the ACTUAL blu-rays/UHD discs of movies. I assume many complainers are watching cable or lossy streaming services and wondering where the good sound is. Newsflash: it's not going to exist from those subpar sources. REMEMBER: "garbage in, garbage out". FYI, my sub control is only set to +2 for this large room.
Over the past year I have changed my home sound system to 90% Sonos speakers, retaining two large wired main speakers for my lounge linked to a Sonos amp. This system links with my Innuos Zen mini 3 and Sony t.v. I had previously bought the main Sonos sub gen 3 which isn't cheap. Imagine how I laughed when I found out that the speaker has to be disconnected within the app from the t.v. surround side of my system and then re paired to the music side of the system. THAT is a real pain in the a++e! So to get the best sound for my set up I had to buy another sub if I didn't want to pair/unpair each time I wanted to get total experience of bass on t.v. or sound. Suffer the app and re pairing each time or buy another sub. This is such a shame and smacks of Sonos just wanting more money rather than continuing to innovate. Sound from the mini sub is just fine. Shame consumers get bombarded with adverts after buying a product.
I bought the Arc as I was super impressed with everything about it from the sound quality, small package, versatility and much more. Being that I am a big time movie buff, and love to listen to music, one component, in my opinion that is an absolute must, is thundering bass. Bass rounds out the completeness of any sound package. I looked at the Sonos Sub (Ben 3), and wanted a side by side comparison with the Sub Mini. The specs on both are super impressive, but I had a space constraint and didn't have much room. So I decided to go with the Sub Mini. The Sub Mini packs a punch that even shocked me. I brought it home set it up with my Arc, and could not believe my ears. The Sub Mini delivers sound that you can not only hear, but feel as well. Even at low volume, the full rich bass is clean. At higher volume levels in movies, it puts you right into the action as you are immersed in sound that compliments that Arc tremendously. I feel that the Sub Mini is the best addition I could make to the Arc. It completes the Arc, which alone delivers fabulous sound. If you want to fill your entertainment experience with complete sound, simply add the Sub Mini to your Sonos system and watch it change everything all over again. 5 stars from me!
Performance: Bought this sub for my basement system (beam + 2 play 1âs) and placed it directly on a hard floor. The sound is very punchy and has good weight to it without any vibration. Movies and music sound excellent and I was surpised by how much it added to gaming. The isolation is excellent so small thuds have a punch but no follow on vibrations which makes the gaming experience much more immersive. Set Up: Youâll need the sonos app but if youâre buying this sub, chances are you already have other sonos products. Set up has been simplified and connecting to my exisiting system took about 20 seconds. Simply place the phone near the top of the unit and it connects. I have two beams and four play 1âs and this unit definitely feels the most âpremiumâ of the products. Overall: I had high hopes for this system and it exceeded my expectations. I would recommend for smaller home theater set-ups, living rooms & gaming set-ups, and as a dedicated hi-fi system.
When I purchased sono's excellent Beam 2 last year, my intent was to streamline the audio equipment in our home theater. Needless to say, the beam did every thing that I wanted and improved the sound quality of the TV. It was always my plan to purchase the sub mini, but I waited a year for the Black Friday sales and inserted the sub mini into the system. One of the issues with my old system was the sound never "worked" for my partner, especially when the bass was really pronounced. Plus, she hated the cluttered entertainment center, which was due to the variety of audio equipment and wires everywhere ( her description). With the sub mini, she was skeptical regarding a sub woofer of any size, but was willing to give the Sonos a try. Out of the blue the other night, she stated that it really does sound better. For me, this Sonos pair was easy to set up, the app is very nice, and the audio works as promised.
