I now have four pairs of these speakers. I discovered Ikea sell Sonos Speakers in a rectanglar box which sound ok but the base and volume is not as good as the Sonos One. Ikea also sell wall mounts for these speakers would have been useful, but in the end the sound quality prompted me to ditch them for these Sonos One which was much better in my side by side comparison. As for the actual product, the downside is the limitation of the voice control. There are three options, Google, Alexa and Sonos. No matter which you pick, you cannot tell Sonos to play any song unless it is from a music service such as Spotify, not even a playlist. Other than the voice control these speakers are excellent.

Things that are annoying but would be easy to fix :- 1) Alexa voice a) the signal from the speaker to indicate it is taking a command is too loud and doesn't adjust down in line with adjusting the media volume (unlike the Amazon Echo products). Late at night if you ask it something this creates a booming noise that is far to loud. I know that one of my friends has same issue and he reported this back but hasn't heard anything. Yes you can probably switch off the confirmation completely but you shouldn't have to . b) once the speaker has activated when hearing the key word (and boomed at you), it reduces the music/media volume (partial mute). On Amazon units this is around 5 seconds which makes sense. On Sonos this is around 30 seconds which really interferes with what you are listening to. Example is, If you ask it to turn volume down then you can't tell if this is ok for at least 30 seconds as its still in partial mute. More difficult things to fix I think (that make it unusable at times) :- In a mixed environment with Amazon Echo devices the Sonos doesn't know if its coming or going. You ask it to play a song and it either says it will and doesn't play anything or plays something else entirely. In either case when you ask it what it is currently playing it tells you its the song you had actually asked for (when obviously it isn't) ! The Alexa app struggles to play a song on the other echo system. E.G I ask the Amazon echo units to play something on the Move (example Sonos device name configured in Alexa app) and they can't. Likewise I can't use the Alexa on the Sonos to then play in the Kitchen Echo. Its truly horrible. After trying to do that the system gets really confused and nothing works for a bit. You ask it to turn volume down on the Alex app , Sonos will turn down the speaker that answered the request but not the others that are involved in playing the same music in the room (eg Move and 2 x Sonos Ones) Other things When using Alexa voice control , the voice prompt has to be Alexa and can't be changed. The rest of my Amazon eco system has "echo" as its key word. You can't create an Alexa music group that has both Echo devices and Sonos devices (so you can't do mutli room music with other devices). In terms of sound Quality. They are ok. I purchased 2 X Sonos Ones to replace a 20 year old Stereo in the Kitchen where the speaker are about 50% bigger than a Sonos Move speaker adn being fed via Auxinput from Echo DOT. Even after using the Apple EQ setup tool I wasn't impressed enough to leave it in place (I thought it was inferior). I relegated them to my lounge and linked in the Sonos move and am pleased with how that sounds (so for £800 it sounds about the same as something I paid £100 for with £20 DOT (call it £200 for inflation). Other things that make it not as good as it could be. You should be able to use the Move in bluetooth mode (so send from a projector or something) and allow it to pass that media onto wireless network to the rest of the Sonos equipment . That is a feature request I guess rather than a problem. There are plenty of other issues and anomalies, but I won't post them here as people have already probably got bored of reading this. So Sonos , you have so much still to resolve to call your speakers smart.

Love the sound and love having wireless when the system works correctly. That's really my only positive at this point. I dislike not being able to control the sound of my TV with TV remote. Have to use my phone to control the volume. This would be great, however, at least once per day the sonos app on my phone can't find my products and each time this happens it goes through the process of trying to find my products and then eventually tells me to unplug my modem and replug it, wait till it resets, try again. Meanwhile I may have turned the volume on my TV low or high and I'm unable to adjust it. Have to wait until the app finds my products because it won't allow me to use the remote to my TV to adjust the volume. I will try again when I have a couple of hours to spend online with tech support. I would recommend to a friend if they had more patience than I. The problem is the constant disconnect.

After initial quick start the speaker skipped the room setup to equalise the sound to the room. The instructions are so poor I am unable to figure out how to re set up in its final position in a different room. It seems several functions may be exclusive to Apple which is a shame asi am on android. Good sound generally but could do with more detail. The speaker can be boomy which is hard to equalize with just base and treble controls. It will not work with other makes of speaker like Google, denon etc to create groups so can't use its biggest function to play music in every room. This is a licencing problem. The voice recognition likes to open different apps than requested. Again prioritising it's built in app tune in instead of BBC sounds so it plays the wrong channel. Even different language channels which is amusing but renders voice recognition useless.
I can compare this directly to the Sonos Era 100 as we bought both at the same time. I can’t discern any notable difference in the sound between the two. It could be that we have them in two different room types, but I would not hesitate to recommend buying the One instead of the Era 100 while the One is still being sold. The cost savings (especially to get an open box One instead of a full-price Era 100) is fairly dramatic. We bought this to replace an Echo Dot. We still use Alexa with it but the sound is in a completely different league. It fills the room with music like the Dot never could. Alexa seems to be as responsive as the Dot as long as you give it a moment to acknowledge that it’s awake before you give it a command. I did the the usual YouTube investigation into the Sonos Beam V2 and the overall feedback was good on both the Beam itself and the App that runs on my Android phone. The it was off to Richer Sounds in Weybridge Surrey. They had the Beam on demonstration but it was far from ideal. The Beam was mounted on the TV but the TV was in a corridor leading to the demonstration room. So the sound demonstration was compromised by location and source signal. To be honest, I thought back to the YouTube recommendations and decided to buy one and get it home and try it. I have an early Samsung Curved screen TV to which I connected the Beam to. The app install was easy and so was the configuration. To be honest, I thought back to the YouTube recommendations and decided to buy one and get it home and try it. I have an early Samsung Curved screen TV to which I connected the Beam to. The app install was easy and so was the configuration. I started watching a film expecting to be blown away by the sound, I wasn't. initially! I then used some music from Spotify and this was absolutely great. It was simply the sound source for that film. I could hear the bass which was controlled and no way overblown but the detail was exceptional. I felt that whilst the bass was there I could do with a little more "cinema" floor shaking stuff. So back to my Richer Sounds for more advice on whether to go for the Sonos Mini Sub or a pair of Sonos Ones. Richer said that whilst the One's would add to the bass it would not give me the cinema experience I was looking for. Here I couldn't make my mind up as I like the idea of bass but the surround sound was also on my shopping list when funds would permit. I took the plunge and bought the Mini Sub and the Sonos One's. I now have a complete Sonos system and couldn't be happier. I would say that the mini sub is an interesting sub and has taught me a little bit of a lesson. The system in total is realistic and detailed and the bass believable. It doesn't shake the floorboards in an exaggerated way but adds bass in a subtle manner and plays its part extremely well. I had a lot of advice from the gents at Richer Sounds and a have a system I cant stop listening to. I've now seen Sonos has a new range of speakers and will start looking out to upgrades but not for a while yet. Now back to my listening!
Sonos really needs to reduce the idle power consumption of their devices. I have a home theater setup made of two Sonos One and a Sonos Beam, and the whole setup consumes more than 10 Watts in Idle! That is about 90kWh a year!! It's an ENORMOUS amount! With current energy prices it's also a significant expense for the consumer! This is not ok. Also, with all the Sonos devices around it's also a big burden on the environment. Other devices, not especially optimized, with even more features, like Nest Mini and Nest Hub have an idle consumption of 2W (still too high). Sonos really has to address this issue quickly by doing a firmware update which is targeted at energy efficiency. Target idle energy consumption should be less than 1W.
One-sentence summary: This is my second ever purchase from Sonos *in the last 7 days.* These speakers are amazing. Last week, I purchased a Sonos Beam for my TV. I didn't even realize how much I needed a sound bar until it arrived, and wow, it's such a huge improvement. After seeing others' Sonos setups on social media, I decided to expand my setup and purchase two Sonos One speakers- one for my bedroom and one for my bathroom. For reference, I have a ~700sq ft 1-br apartment. This new setup is perfect; it allows me to have wonderful quality for TV and movies, while also expanding that sound to my other rooms if I need to step away. I previously complained about not being able to use Bluetooth audio with the system, and while that could be an issue to some, it's really not an issue for me. Sonos does support AirPlay audio for iPhone, so there's really no need to use Bluetooth anyway. The One is a little larger than I expected; I considered getting a Roam for my bathroom, but some reviewers have said they've experienced connectivity issues, so I went with the One. No regrets!
I wanted a good speaker for my living room and liked this one because it had Alexa available. Plus it had a good reputation for sound quality. Setting it up was a challenge because there are multiple apps that show Sonos and one tried to make me subscribe to the Sonos music service. That app is the wrong one to control the speaker. Once setup, it sounded great! I was impressed with how well the sound was with both depth and clarity for such a small sized speaker. It made me want to buy another, which i did. Setting up the second one and pairing them was very easy. And the sound quality as a pair is phenomenal! Some cautions, the mic is super sensitive and often responds when I don't want it to. Overall, I'm very happy with them and plan to expand with home theater components.
I have had a pair of Sonos One speakers in my kitchen since they were introduced to the market several years ago. They now sit at opposite ends of a large, long countertop in our newly renovated kitchen. They now sit at opposite ends of a large, long countertop in our newly renovated kitchen. They are attractive yet blend in with other things on the countertop but are powerful enough to push the sound out and around any items in the way. The sound is amazing especially the bass for these compact speakers. We use Alexa all the time and typically stream music from Amazon. These speakers are part of an elaborate Sonos system that includes Beam in the bedroom and an S1 controller in the family room that pumps sound through our surround sound system as well as several speakers in multiple locations outside around the pool and the gazebo. I just spoke to support (which answered the phone immediately) to ask how easy it would be to take these two stereo speakers in the kitchen to a Florida home rental and set up for 2 months. They told me it is automated through the app for simple set up and when I return home can easily integrate them back into my original system. I'm not surprised because they seem to always be upgrading the software to expand the capabilities of the products I purchased. I noticed they now support Google in addition to Alexa. If you buy these Sonos one speakers for any room but especially a kitchen you will not be disappointed and you will use them all the time. This is a fantastic product and good value for the outstanding quality of sound.
