Needed to replace my old Blu-ray/DVD Player and, after doing some research, decided to buy this unit. Was surprised by how compact it was. Found it really easy to install and connect to my TV using the existing HDMI Cable. Have tested playing various different types of discs (CD/DVD and Blu-Ray) and experienced no problems. Remote control was also compact and easy to use. Would recommend this unit to anyone.

An excellent 4K UHD Blu-ray player with Dolby Vision support. The main drawback to this player is the way in which Dolby Vision ("DV") support is implemented. It does not auto detect DV content and switch/output in DV automatically. Instead you have to manually select or turn on DV when viewing DV content. And if you set the 'Dolby Vision' setting as 'On' in the player settings, it will automatically play back all HDR content (even plain old HDR10 discs) in DV format. This is a major hassle and downside to this otherwise excellent 4K Blu-ray player. The other downside is the lack of HDR10+ support. Other than that, I am very happy with the player and its user interface.

I bought this Blu-ray player a while ago as part of my on-going mission to gradually replace all of my existing tech with a brand name I liked and trusted. I am delighted with it. At the time, I had a TV with 3D function and had bought a large number of 3D Blu-ray discs, so it was important to me to be able to buy a Blu-ray player which still included this function (most have now stopped providing this) as well as being 4K UHD. The setup was completed in minutes and was far superior in quality to my previous brand. 3D Blu-rays worked beautifully and the 4K picture when watching 4K content was stunning. Unfortunately, my TV broke down shortly afterwards, but this was the excuse I needed to go and buy a Sony TV to team with this player. Unfortunately, none of the current or even recent models of TV (of any brand) include the 3D function anymore (such a pity. I loved it and bought 3D Blu-rays regularly!). Nevertheless, watching a 4K UHD Blu-ray via this player on my new Sony TV is awesome. I guess it's time to upgrade the sound system next...!

I recently gotten this new 4K UHD Blu-ray player for Christmas this past year and its been very great to use. It has great picture quality with the video and the audio is great too. I have noticed that it does lag a little with the audio on playback, whenever it comes out of being paused. But it only lasts like about 2-3 seconds and the audio is back. I know that is something people have said in their reviews about it and I don't mind it. All you can simply do is just rewind it and that is it. What I also have noticed lately is that I have encounter a few minor issues that started about 3 months ago in April. Sometimes when I try to play a DVD, it would do either two things: 1.) But it only lasts like about 2-3 seconds and the audio is back. I know that is something people have said in their reviews about it and I don't mind it. All you can simply do is just rewind it and that is it. What I also have noticed lately is that I have encounter a few minor issues that started about 3 months ago in April. Sometimes when I try to play a DVD, it would do either two things: 1.) It would start to play, but it would not continue on and would show a blank screen, indicating it would be stuck (I press the "Display" button on the remote and I would see it not play); or 2.) It would pop up an error message stating the disc could not be read or unable to play and to check to make sure that the disc is clean of scratches and is playable. I never had encountered this kind of problem before with my player and it was a little frustrating. But to help fix it, I just reset the player or unplug it for about 30 seconds to a minute, so that it can restart itself back up. Once I did that, it worked again and that was it. It doesn't happen every time or every day, it only happens like once in a while and its rare to happen. That is why its an easy fix to do and why I went online to Sony's website and their forum on what to do. I probably plan to mention this to Sony and see what they can do to fix this minor issue because from what I read from other people, they said it could possibly be a software issue and that is another thing to that I do, I always make sure that I keep the player up to date and I have the latest software version installed. I just hope that Sony would release a new software version update since its been over a year since they did. Besides that, the only other minor issue I have also encountered lately is the Internet connection sometimes. It started about a few weeks ago and I've noticed that when I also check on updating the Services of the built-in apps for the player, it would give me a message stating that it a network connection cannot be confirmed and that I would need to setup the Network settings, even though I already have and the player is connected to the Internet. After encountering this other issue, it still does it and it gets annoying. Luckily, I went online to Sony's forum for advice and it seems that the reason that it is doing it is because of several reasons relating to my Internet/Network setup and some of them could be that I would need to either reset my modem, check for any connection issues with my ISP or if there any interferences from other networks, or if the Network is busy during a high period of streaming services. Either way, I found that the simplest way to fix this minor issue was to reset my player by unplugging it for 30 seconds and then plug it back in. After that, it worked. But that is something else I have encountered and one I am going to look at into more with equipment and my ISP, so that the issue doesn't repeat itself. I have only encountered it about like 2 times and that is it. But that will be something else I will also talk to Sony about. Anyways, in conclusion, while I may have encountered two minor issues with the player, it doesn't discourage that its a bad player. This is a really great 4K UHD Blu-ray player. It is fast, has great video/picture and audio quality, and has the latest technology in home entertainment. My biggest advice to everyone has it or plans to get it, make sure you take extra special care of it and make sure that you have it up to date on the latest software too, and if you do encounter some of the issues I have stated in my review, just go to Sony's website for help and you will be fine. I just hope that there will be a new software version for the player very soon.
This was the third player before I found one that worked good. I had to go into the store because they believed that the first one was damaged through mail handling. I tried another Sony product and it didn't work it would pause all the time and you missed part of the show about every 60 Seconds even if you were just watching TV. This one plays fine but I have never used the Wi-Fi or connected it because my Wi-Fi is weak. I use it just for playing DVD and Blu-ray and it works perfectly. The second one I bought the coloring of everything looked like I had gone back to the 1960s and it all looked Brown and hazy and I didn't think I would ever find one that worked. I don't like that you can't see anything on the front. I wish it told you where you were in the movie and ... MoreThis was the third player before I found one that worked good. I don't like that you can't see anything on the front. I wish it told you where you were in the movie and had the time of day on the actual player. I like to watch movies in a dark room because they show up better especially in dark scenes and I really rather there be some buttons on the actual player because if the remote ever breaks there's no way to use the device. I've never had a device that I couldn't use without the remote and I think that's a huge drawback and why I gave it a four. It is superior to the others I tried including LG and another Sony. I'm using it with a brand new Vizio TV. The design looks nice except for the lack of being functionable from the actual device and I don't like that there are no numbers or clock or anything on the actual device. There's a button on the remote you can push to see where you're at in the show so that if you stop it you know where you were. I do like the fact that even if the power is off it's intelligent enough to know where I was in a movie and start right back where I was most of the time but not all of the time. I have had electronic devices in multiple rooms of my house since they first came out with them. I grew up in a theater and so watching movies has been a huge part of my life.
When I decided to get this player, I had heard about issues such as freezing up, skipping, and screen blackouts. The day I purchased this unit, I did experience the 1-2 second screen blackouts and was concerned that I was going to have to exchange it. I checked the settings to make sure it had the latest software update, which it did, so I decided to do a factory reset and ever since, the blackout issue has disappeared...whew! I have played a number of Blu-Rays and DVD's (some I own and some rented) with no issues. I have yet to play a 4K disc (can't wait) so I'm hoping there will be no issues there either. The up conversion of the Blu-Ray and even regular DVD discs on this player is very good. The up conversion of the Blu-Ray and even regular DVD discs on this player is very good. I was concerned that DVD's might not look so good but they in fact do. It also passes all the current audio codecs, Dolby Atmos, DD+, DTS-X, etc. with ease through my Denon AVR. The one thing I wish this player had, which my older SONY Blu-Ray player has, is the remaining time. I'll explain. The X700 shows the length of the movie and how much of it has played. My older SONY shows how much time the movie has played and next to it, the time remaining in the movie and I liked that feature. It was quite handy at times. I use the older remote because one, it's larger and two, it has a 10 second rewind button and 15 second advance button that the X700 remote does not have. It would be nice if it was possible to add the remaining movie time in the display with a software update but that probably won't happen. I have all the equipment I need for 4K disc playback and I'm looking forward to the experience. Overall, I really like this unit.
bought this unit in 2018- had non stop issues with it since probably the first 6 months. it will randomly not work when you turn it on. the screen will appear blank and you cannot use any function. the only way to fix it is to basically unplug the power from the unit and leave it to reset i guess for hours. when you then plug it back in it will work. extremely frustrating when you go to use it. Sony was no help- they said to do a software update and that would fix it but it hasnt. it appears to be a well known issue on forums and youtube however no fix has been supplied. when it does work it is great and easy to use with all the options for youtube, netflix etc. expensive for its performance and not what i would expect from Sony.
If you are thinking about buying this 4K ultra HD blu ray player, don't hesitate any longer. Go for it! This is the best blu ray player I have ever bought. It does everything well, is fast and responsive, and the picture quality is absolutely incredible! I support Dolby Atmos audio so I get sound that is accurate and loud and clear. It makes movie watching so immersive. I watched Black Panther in 4K UHD it was as close to being in the movie theater as possible. The picture on my HDR tv was arguably better that what I experienced in theaters. Anyway, five stars! No complaints. Go for it!
Great little player, surprisingly compact and runs very quiet. The UI is a little bit dated but considering its a 4 year old model thats not unusual. Boots up very quickly and load discs fast. Supports all video files and formats only problem is it doesnt automatically switch between Dolby vision and hdr, you have to manually choose. If Dolby is on all hdr videos will be converted to Dolby vision. So to watch regular hdr you have to switch off that setting. But if you prefer Dolby vision then thats irrelevant.
This is the only current 4K player that can also play Super Audio CDs. It can provide 'intelligence' for a dumb TV, and Netflix is particularly fast to load. It has two HDMI outputs, one reserved just for audio, like much more expensive 4K players. Stunning sound and video if the source is good (eg BBC natural history) and the TV is top notch. I have two - one in my motorhome! Occasionally freezes when switching from Netflix to disk and has to be powered down. 12-volt power comes from an external wall-wart (supplied). Amazing technology for its small size and low cost
