A Big Disappointment

My main complaint about this model is the EPG, which is dreadful in both design and function. The shortcomings are too numerous and arcane to list, but I will mention the lack of a program synopsis box at the head of the EPG: an unforgivable omission. My last TV was a Sony 50W829B and this had an excellent EPG. In short all the changes (and there are many) from that TV to this one are detrimental.I realise I’m old and even among my contemporaries my surfing habits are probably in a minority. And I know younger users want to stream, be they games, fake You Tube news or endless box-sets from subscription channels. But that is really no reason to have such an appalling EPG for those like me who want to surf the free-to-air channels and pick a program to view.Given ... MoreMy main complaint about this model is the EPG, which is dreadful in both design and function. My 50W829B worked hard for 8 years with no problems before it expired. This one did not last 6 months before requiring a new main circuit board; bad enough you might think, but compounded by the hoops I had to jump through to get it fixed. Two calls to the retailer (at least they were freephone) who IMO should have taken responsibility for fixing the TV at this stage. Then followed calls to Sony and the agents appointed by Sony to carry out the repair - 11 days later. Add to that a webform and numerous emails to and from Sony and the local Sony Centre. The whole procedure was stressful and not the sort of service I expected from Sony. I'm also very disappointed with the retailer - from whom I shall not purchase another TV.

Based on previous experience and having taken advice from my local hi fi shop, I opted for the Bravia even though it was slightly more expensive than other comparable brands. I am happy with my purchase. Any criticisms? - I would have preferred a proper instruction book ( call me old fashioned! ). Yes, one can get the online manual but I’d rather have the real thing. I have yet to discover any reference to the second remote control that comes with the set. ( maybe it’s me!?! ). I feel that the feet are not robust enough for the size of the set. At last, sound I can hear clearly!
5 February 2023

Swapped this for the smaller, 32" Bravia. Sales rep didn't discuss what we needed as well as he could have done. We are not heavy viewers but were very disappointed with that minimum hd tv which was grainy at 32". Sound was muddy (my hearing is OK but not good so I often couldn't follow dialogue). Called shop and asked to swap to this after reading features and reviews of the range. Swap went fine. This is both best picture we've ever had (colours and clarity) and best sound - making stuff I couldn't follow, even with headphones or hearing aids because of low grade audio electronics, into very clear, enjoyable viewing. Twice the price but many times that better due, simply, to being watchable and hearable. And, historically, quite cheap compared to average incomes ... MoreSwapped this for the smaller, 32" Bravia. Great picture and features
11 July 2023

Bought this for my wife who is now bedridden with Alzheimer’s. It works from an indoor aerial and the internet - for streaming channels. One of the best features is that the picture is clear even in bright daylight. It has all the features you’d expect from the best manufacturer in TVs - excellent sound, support for Bluetooth, airdrop and screen mirroring, and a fantastic picture quality. Upon its speedy arrival it was easy to assemble and has 4 HDMI ports, 2 USB ports, an optical, earphone and internet port. The 45” screen may seem excessive to some for a bedroom but is ideal to catch the attention of my wife and for myself to watch films and sporting events. Altogether a great product at a competitive price and definitely worth that little bit extra over cheaper ... MoreBought this for my wife who is now bedridden with Alzheimer’s. Limited and restrictive apps.

picture is nice. biggest let down is, it signs you into your google account, to collect your info, nothing more. you can only use sony's app store. very, very limited apps to use! you want iheartradio? nope, sorry. only pandora is available. what's the point in making me sign into google if i cant even use the google playstore to get apps? oh.....to collect my info, that's right.....moreover, how does a tv remote have a dedicated Netflix button but not have it preinstalled on the tv? im disappointed in the app options, or should i say, lack there of. signing into Google, is pointless, for your benefit. how is it called a google tv, if you cant use google to get your apps? lol. what are the benefits, for the user, to stay logged into google, with this particular tv? ... Morepicture is nice. biggest let down is, it signs you into your google account, to collect your info, nothing more. you can only use sony's app store. very, very limited apps to use! you want iheartradio? nope, sorry. only pandora is available. what's the point in making me sign into google if i cant even use the google playstore to get apps? oh.....to collect my info, that's right.....moreover, how does a tv remote have a dedicated Netflix button but not have it preinstalled on the tv? im disappointed in the app options, or should i say, lack there of. signing into Google, is pointless, for your benefit. how is it called a google tv, if you cant use google to get your apps? lol. what are the benefits, for the user, to stay logged into google, with this particular tv? there are none. its just to collect your personal info and what you are watching, to personalize the ads. the branding of this being a google tv, is very misleading.

Not as good as expected

I bought this from Currys as a damaged box item. My prevous non smart Panasonic tv had a good picture (10 yrs old) and l never needed to fiddle around with the settings. After all this time l decided to upgrade and get a 4K smart tv with a good refresh rate which this has. The reviews for the TV were good to very good, so l decided to get this one. Unfortunately, l am always mucking about with the settings because the picture quality is so variable i.e not that good. In fact l dont think the quality is as good as my old tv. The settings to auto adjust the light in the room is not good, so l turned it off otherwise the picture ends up being dimmer than normal. The picture settings Vivid, Std or Cinema just seem to just dim the picture as well. Its hard to describe ... MoreI bought this from Currys as a damaged box item. Remotes could have used more research
6 December 2022

I get the impression that the remotes were not used by people who used the tv feature. I use the more complicated remote so I have direct access to some features without having to select from a menu. There are tiny buttons for guide, last channel, mute, subtitles and the info button. The info button is at the opposite end of the remote to the guide button. Yet the settings button is on a prominent corner of the main directional control area. Also the 'last used input source' power-on option doesn't take note of the tv option as an input source.Otherwise reasonable brightness, sound, vewing angle and a well-rated tv in many group review tests.

Arrived in good condition. This is our first new TV in 25 years. We bought a Sony because the old one lasted so long. We bought this model because it has a refresh rate of 120 vs. 60 and was on sale for $200-300 less than its original price -- probably because it is the 2022 model. We are senior citizens with moderate technical skills. We unpacked and set it up ourselves - on a stand. The printed instructions were worthless. (Enough with pictures. Words please! I'm literate.) We only have free over-the-air reception, so can't speak to cable or satellite set-up. We are using the same antenna from the old TV and had no issues with getting plenty of channels. Thoughtful design met Crystal Clear Display

This TV is blowing my mind away. The flat design makes it ideal for a sleek wall mount for my living room. The edge-to-edge display has beautified the living room too - it's gorgeous. This second remote control became the most used after the initial setup. It controls the Soundbar System as well as the TV itself. With My Sony HT-RT4 600W Soundbar System, the Cinema is finally at home. I have looked forward to this moment in a long time.Security-wise, I am totally impressed. With kids around, setting age-related restrictions is as easy as ABC. Individual apps can be restricted, even the entire TV can be locked, and sweetest part is that VIEWING times (hours of view) can be set. I have stopped talking about screen times to my kids (it does not always go unchallenged) but with Sony -X85K, the talks are over. The TV simply goes off after viewing hours has been reached; and when they try to bring it back on, it was locked, case closed! It feels good, haha.Gaming on this TV is an out-of-this world experience, especially with my Sony Inzone 7 headphone. It's just brilliant, with crystal clear details.I was taken aback with the internal memory, which is just 4.4GB. However, I attached an external flash drive, and the TV allowed me to wedge it as an added internal storage (instead of being a removable type). I now have 34.4GB total memory for apps and games.I totally recommend this TV where home security, cinematic experience for homes, and gaming matters.
