Straight out of the box the Sony 55” X85L impressed me with its slim bezel design. Its multitude of ports that caters to your fancy such as its dual USB ports, digital audio out, AV in, its 4 HDMI ports which is plenty. Do note that port 3 and 4 are 120hz ports and those are pretty nice to have as I’m also a gamer and use a 1440x2560 resolution monitor with 165hz to game. The feet are actually adjustable! You can slot the feet closer to each other so you can place the TV on a smaller table(TV is approx 140cm). That really hit home for me as it showed they actually thought about the consumer whilst producing this TV. Aside from the TV itself, I was a bit puzzled to see two TV remotes instead of the usual one. Began to wonder what the difference was so I searched it online. One is a regular looking remote which is apparently an (IR)Infrared remote controller without the google assistant and MIC button(Didn’t like this one so much). The other one is the one I really love. It’s a (RF) Radio frequency controller with the google assistant and MIC button. Makes things so much easier just by speaking to it. It’s essentially like an Amazon Fire stick built in already. The remote also comes with buttons for your Netflix,Bravia Core, Disney+, Prime Video, Youtube and Crunchyroll. Can you imagine a Crunchyroll button? The feel, weight and balance of the controller in your palm is something I really appreciated as well.On to the viewing experience, I quickly switched on Netflix but didn’t have the 4k version so didn’t do the TV justice. Having said that, the colour reproduction on this TV is amazing. Its Full Array LED is a tech I really enjoy. When my windows are open and the room is filled with light there isn’t this cloudy look to it. The pictures are still very sharp and the colours are vibrant. That being said I actually enjoy watching shows/movies and even YouTube on the TV now. It’s actually made me want to subscribe for 4k viewing on different streaming platforms. All in all I’d say this TV is absolutely worth getting, be it for gaming or for that cinema experience you’re looking for. There is so much upside and little to no downside for this TV and would recommend anyone who is looking for a 55 inch Full Array LED TV for their next purchase.

The X85L , has them showing at the side of the TV , cosmetically not ideal , and would be annoying for wall mounting I would thinkHow does the picture and sound compare?Picture comparison using SkyQ , mini led vs oled screen. Very good indeed, my wife and I watched both screens at once to compare. The sharpness was excellent, colours bright , very good blacks and contrast , possibly not as wide a viewing angle as the oled , but not enough to matterThe sound , 2 x 10 W speakers , vs acoustic screen . Volume capabilities was very good as well , no distortion at high levels, and fills a large roomOther bitsIt is a google smart tv , which does take a while to get used to , unless you already have one .there are 2 remotes , which I think could have been better incorporated into one bigger more robust remote , these feel a bit flimsyOverall opinionAll I want from a TV , is a good viewing experience, and to be able to hear the dialogue. This performs well on both counts , it is not as good as a Sony flagship TV, but is a thousand pounds cheaper!

The Sony TV remote itself is quite minimalist but allows you total control. There were about 10 screens of set up to go through, but the navigation is intuitive. It was easy enough to get the Google TV setup working, although you can choose to skip the Google set up if you wish. You can enjoy many of the functions of the TV even without a Google account logged in.Once I was logged in with my Google account, it was painless to connect to the TV and register the new device via the Google Home app on my mobile phone. Everything was ready to go within half an hour, but that was also down to me going slowly, as I like to take my time and explore all the setup options and fine tune the picture and sound.There are several energy-saving settings that you can access and tweak via the ECO Dashboard. But to be honest, I like the vibrant colours of the Vivid settings and so I switched to this picture mode as soon as I could. This sacrifices some of the energy-savings, but this is just down to personal taste. You can choose to have the light sensor switched on which adjusts your TV picture output according to the ambient light.The sound from the TV speakers is impressive and you can play around with the settings to your heart's content. During the initial set up, the TV also performs an acoustic auto calibration, which optimises the audio output of the TV according to your listening environment. Quite impressive to see this in action. You can run the same optimisation at any time via the settings menu.Depending on your streaming provider or set top box, you can even control your viewing box with the TV remote, and the set-up process will automatically detect and configure everything for you. The HDMI input source will automatically identify when your set top box is active.One of the really cool things I like about this TV is the ambient mode, where you have the ability to have the screensaver cycle through photos in your Google Photos albums. So, when you are not watching any TV channels you can have a slideshow of photos of your family or your recent holiday snaps on the screen. Or you can opt for curated images and artwork from Google. There is plenty to tweak here in terms of the slideshow speed, and other settings.Overall, I think the TV provides crisp, vibrant colours, with distraction-free viewing and effortless control at your fingertips, with optional voice commands!

Been using this TV on and off for a few weeks now, and have enjoyed my time with it. The everyday remote feels very good to hold, and easy to navigate, and having 2 mounting options for the stand should suit most circumstances. The 4 HDMI ports are located on the left, and are easily accessible for wall mounting. The TV is capable of vibrant colours, and Dolby Vision tends to bring it to life, Our Planet 2 on Netflix looked spectacular.Wider viewing angles will wash out the colour, although it's still pretty viewable from even the worst angles. It's just as smooth in VRR, but you do notice a slightly longer response time. 120Hz is a nice option to have for competitive gaming.The XBOX Series X worked well, and whilst playing Forza Horizon 5, I noticed a lot more detail on the interior of the cars. Everything just seemed a lot more stable, which I believe is the effect VRR has on a game, and along with the vibrant colours, makes things look a lot more detailed, and lively.Some of the darker details are not possible to be displayed on this TV, but for an LED TV it's pretty decent. Wouldn't recommend this in a dark room, you can notice the local dimming quite a lot, especially with subtitles.Some features I would've like to have seen would've been a Netflix Calibrated mode, love that mode on my other Sony TV's, and IMAX Enhanced would've been a nice addition, especially as you can get Bravia Core on this TV.
I already have an xr 65 x90 in the front room and decided to buy a kd55 for the bedroom when my old bedroom TV died. I love the Google TV interface. It's a newer model than the xr so the smart remote has a couple of extra shortcuts, but overall is very similar..the build quality doesn't seem as high as the xr, without being much cheaper which I found Miley disappointing. The 'feet' on the TV are much larger and chunkier, which takes away from the clean aesthetic a little. Unlike the xr, the remote is not backlit despite looking almost identical. Besides this I have no complaints. The picture is crystal clear. The 120hz 4k capability is great for gaming. I love the Google TV interface and the amount of apps. The X85L 55" is just simply incredible!My previous TV was a 2019 LG 4K TV which I thought was amazing, however now comparing it against the Sony Bravia, it wasn't that great.My previous LG TV had a lot of backlight bleed, and halo effect around bright images on dark backgrounds. I've tried to replicate the halo effect on the Bravia TV and I can’t! No backlight bleeding either.The colours... just wow! Bright, vibrant and just pop! I've had many guests comment on the colours of the TV. HDR is also very visible - The blacks are proper black!!I've wall mounted the TV using my previous mount, which is directly opposite the main living room window, so can get very bright in the living room. I've tried to replicate the halo effect on the Bravia TV and I can’t! No backlight bleeding either.The colours... just wow! Bright, vibrant and just pop! I've had many guests comment on the colours of the TV. HDR is also very visible - The blacks are proper black!!I've wall mounted the TV using my previous mount, which is directly opposite the main living room window, so can get very bright in the living room. The TV's smart brightness works flawlessly. You can see it working in real time as the living room gets brighter or darker.The design is fine - Nothing really to comment. Ample ports for all boxes, consoles and accessories.Remote(s) - With this TV, you get 2 remotes - A smart BT remote, and an old school IR remote. I get why, but I feel only the smart remote is necessary. in the 2 weeks I've had the TV, I've not used the second IR remote.One thing I do miss with my previous LG TV was the smart remote where you could point at the TV, and it would become more computer mouse like, and you're able to navigate the UI, and menus more quickly. This would have been an amazing addition.Set up - The set up was simple, guided you through everything from setting up Wi-Fi, Bluetooth remote, and connecting your cable box.During the set up, it did show the option to control your cable box from the TV remote. I have the Virgin 360 box, and unfortunately this isn't an option on the Bravia TV. (Hopefully a software update adds it on)UI / OS - The is my first google TV, I must say it’s great! Options and customisations galore! As a tech geek I had lots of options/settings to play around with and customise to my liking.Very easy to navigate and generally find what you're looking for. (It did take me a while to find the option to rename the HDMI inputs to what they are for ease, but I found it in the end)I love the home screen where it'll show your shows from all your signed in providers - Disney & Prime in my experience. I have noticed Netflix suggestions/integration isn't available - Not sure if it’s a licencing thing. It would be great to have Netflix show also.I haven't looked far enough yet, but I'd like to have all paid shows removed from the suggestions, and only have my current subscriptions show as its annoying.Voice control - I had this on my previous TV and didn't tend to use it. I've used it a few times on the Bravia and seems to work well.I've also connected Alexa to the TV so it can be turned on or off remotely, plus launching apps etc which is helpful.Looking through the spec's the TV seems to be fully PS5 ready, with its own options for PS5. 120hz refresh rate at 4k is insane at this size. Unfortunately, I do not have a PS5 to test the features.Sound - Unfortunately cannot comment on the sound from the TV as I have a Sony soundbar which was plug and play, and the TV detects the soundbar easily and quickly via ARC. The soundbar will turn on and off with the TV which is helpful.Overall, I am extremely happy with this TV, and would happily recommend it.

Just watching the screen saver pictures took my breath away, it’s difficult to put into words how life like the picture quality and viewing experience actually is.There is a feature, which automatically adjusts the picture quality for varying room lighting conditions. This is really handy for our sunny south facing room and does seem to improve our viewing experience through the day especially in very bright conditions compared to our old TV.The sound quality is much better than I expected for a flat screen TV to be honest. There is an auto sound calibration feature that actually calibrates the sound quality for the room layout, which I did during the initial set up process and although you can select different sound effects I am very happy with the auto settings.I did think I would need a sound bar like my other TV, but actually the sound quality is surprisingly good and I am not convinced its worth forking out the extra cash as Sony seem to have done a good job with the internal speaker system.Two remote controls are provided, which puzzled me for a start, however I found that the slim one has an integral mic, which is useful for voice control as well as navigating around the different Functions, Apps and TV Channel options which makes things much more intuitive and easy to use and stress free.It also has handy quick access buttons to Prime Video, Netflix and You Tube as well as Bravia Core, which offers 12 months unlimited streaming and 5 free movies if you sign up and casting from my phone or tablet is remarkably easy.What I don’t like:The only thing I miss is a good old fashioned SCART Connection, while this TV has all modern connectivity such as USB, HDMI and HDMI ARC ports etc, there is no SCART Lead, I know its because of the Ultra High 4k definition and not unexpected, if I am honest, however it does mean my dear old DVD Player is now sadly defunct.I now have a reason to buy a modern 4K UHD DVD player which will be an awesome combination with this fantastic TV, it has so many great features, I am very impressed with the thought and technology that Sony engineers have put into making this TV a simply stunning, unique and exceptional viewing experience.

Gaming reaches a new dimension and with high speed broadband you really do notice the connection difference. The TV has "tone mapping" and "picture mode' ; both really help to bring games to life. Graphics are crisp and ultra clear. The sound using headphones is first class.I am happy with the screen size. The TV does not dominate our living room and personally I would not want a bigger screen (until I get a dedicated TV room!). It sits nicely on our unit and the ability to space the stands is a good feature.This is a world class television. I have no hesitation in recommending it. It has the SONY build quality I have come to appreciate over many years. My first bought colour television was a SONY in 1982.

However, the standard, out of the box picture modes are also perfectly fine for everyday usage.- Sound quality of the TV is surprisingly good. They did not implement this model with under the screen speakers, however, the traditional under TV speakers are still providing a rich, and wide spectrum audio experience. I don't feel the need for an additional sound bar or HI-FI system. It might lack the bass of a high end, dedicated home cinema system, however they used very clever technology, to make you feel like you are listening to your content on a home cinema setup: clear surround technology is in place!- Build quality of the TV is very premium in my opinion, even though I believe, this is a strong mid-range TV. Modern, stylish design, which can be a nice decorative element of your home. Thanks to the built in software, called Living Decor, you can use your TV as a painting or picture on the wall, accompanied with ambient music. Sometimes, I like to use this software on it's own, and just relax after a work day. Great initiative!- Two remote controls included with the TV: I think this is a great option from the manufacturer to include a traditional and a "Smart TV" remote control, later one using bluetooth connection to communicate with your TV. With this approach, based on your use case, you can either use the TV, as a traditional, non smart TV, or you can experience the full smart TV, thanks to the bluetooth remote controller.- Plenty of accessories, screws etc. included by default with the purchase of this TV, so I found it easy to mount it on the wall or any other TV holding solution.- Great amount of input ports, 4K, 120HZ refresh rate and VRR: these options makes my Playstation 5 gaming experience truly stunning. This TV is a perfect companion for modern generation gaming consoles.Now, I would like to highlight some negative points with this TV:- Operating System: The manufacturer decided to use Google TV as their main operating system on the TV. It is based on Android, which gives a great amount of customization options for your liking. However I find the current implementation of this OS a bit too disturbing. It's not the manufacturers fault, but unfortunately Google has included tons of advertisements in this operating system: Half of the home screen, when you turn on the TV, is filled with AD's (TV shows, movies etc.). I find this disturbing, and it's using unnecessary resources on the TV. However, I can safely say, the processing power is more than enough of this TV, to have a lag and stutter free experience, while you navigate the TV, despite the bloated Google TV OS. I would have welcomed an XMB style OS, based on Android, but customized by the manufacturer, so it would better match their product lines (like Playstations for example), and it would be a more integrated experience in my opinion. You can still change the default Google Android TV launcher to a custom one, if you really want to.Other than the above, I couldn't find any more negative points with this TV. Overall, it's perfectly serving my intended usage, and I am very happy with this device, and I can safely recommend it to others, who are interested in watching movies, tv shows and using smart TV services, to stream their favorite content. Gamer orientated users, also wouldn't be disappointed with the performance of this device. Great value for the money in my opinion!
