It is THE most feature laden, capable compact ever...except...it's not very compact:^( Feature set wise this thing kills most "Pro DSLR's" all the way down to weather sealing,headphone-in,Mic-in, focus peaking and a firmware update to give you XAVC-S Video.A Hi res tilting LCD,ISO standard hot-shoe and a Hi res eye-level viewfinder make it even more Pro friendly... If all of THAT weren't enough...Sony gifted it with a crazy good Zeiss designed 24-200mm 2.8 equivalent zoom lens!!! No amount of money can buy you one of those for a Canon or Nikon...simply does not exist! Another thoughtful feature is the manual aperture ring on the zoom...it's nice and thick, well placed and gives you the feeling that you're using a camera designed FOR photographers...sooo nice! Just leave it in the "A" position if you want to shoot in full auto though. And for you video guys...You can "Unclick" the ring for smooth, totally silent fades...sooo kick-ass!!! I suspect quite a few working Pros will be buying these as a back-up still cam or a "B" cam for video shoots, but, the reality is,this camera can go toe-to-toe with any APSC or M4/3 camera out there for still or video work...the FX/FF bodies may have an advantage image quality wise but the RX-10 will match even THEM feature set wise! Keep in mind thatthis sensor is being used in Sony's $3000 video cams...it's no slouch folks! So...Is it the perfect camera??? Well...it won't fit in your jeans pocket...but considering it's features...it's amazingly compact...a parka pocket,Yes! Some peeps complain about the zooms motor speed...it's a huge piece of glass folks...if you use the rocker switch to zoom,I find it very, very satisfying. The Macro could be better but,it's still a pretty good close focuser. It's a bit expensive on the surface...but if you can find one in the $800 or below price point,it becomes an insane bargain IMHO. If you are not a Pro wildlife or Sports Photog, there are not many assignments this camera couldn't cover. It's good...really good! Look...I'll still keep my Panny Lumix GM-1 with my PanaLeica 25mm 1.4...I'm completely in love with that combo as a street shooter and portrait set-up...but that combo doesn't have a hot shoe, weather proofing,tilt-screen or Mic/Headphone-in sooo, the RX-10 will also be in my bag 100% of the time...between the two of them...I'm in camera heaven:^)) I'm gonna' go take some picture now.......................

After using the RX10 a couple years ago I found that it was one of my favorite cameras. Keeping up with technology and features I tried the Sony a6300, Panasonic Z1000,Panasonic Z2500,and the Sony RX100MK IV. None of them could check all the boxes to match the RX10 MK II. Some of the most important features I was looking for was, HSS on and off camera , slow motion , smooth zoom, nice grip and bright lens with fast focus. Another fantastic feature is the downloadable in camera apps . I love the timelapse ,multi-exposure, motion shot and touchless shutter apps. There is about 20+ apps available ,some free and some that cost a small fee. Once purchased you can use that app on other Sony cameras like the a6000,a6300 or RX100 series.

I've grown tired of carrying my DSLR with it's heavy and bulky zoom lens while traveling, and have found it to be a deterrent to taking many photos, often leaving it behind in the hotel. The RX10 is a great compromise solution for me, as it's compact and relatively lightweight while still taking professional quality images. Even with the zoom limited to 200mm, the image quality is so good that one can crop and enlarge most images while still retaining amazing detail. And the fast (especially for a zoom) f2.8 Zeiss lens is flawless. I'm looking forward to taking it along on this year's vacation.

I have had the camera 4 weeks so am still learning but getting better each time I go out. Particularly like to take pictures of birds and have been happy with some results. I also like macro photos of flowers but I am disappointed that there is no specific macro function to use.
It undoubtedly was a great camera when it came out but not any more. Being able to shoot at high ISOs is so not true.. The images come out horribly pixilated. Focusing is a little slow. The electronic view finder is adequate. I wanted to get it because of the 2.8 Zeiss lens, but I have yet to be impressed by image quality. Thank goodness I didn't invest much money because I picked up a used RX10 in very good condition. I'm keeping it as a backup camera in case something happens to my wonderful Canon EOS 6D.
Sometimes, in life, the decisions you make can turn out to be extremely good ones. I selected the RX10 1V as my camera of choice after extensive research, and as I learn and experiment more with the features that the camera provides I am more than satisfied with my purchase. I bought this to replace a DSLR and 4 lenses and accessories that weighed about 8kg.So impressed with quality of images and ease of use. No more having to swap lenses and quite often missing shots.

Whilst on a small expedition ship and nowhere near communication of any sort, no mobile, internet or wifi for 10-11 days, I experienced a number of scary issues. Firstly, when reviewing the day’s “shoot”, it would not hold the review function, repeatedly reverting to shutter mode. Sometimes you could review 20 or so images, maybe deleting some, and then when passing the camera across or just tilting it to show my wife, it would switch to shutter mode. On pressing the review button again, it was inconsistent in how many frames it would review before changing to shutter mode again. Other times it would immediately switch to shutter mode before you could even focus on the review image. That problem continued for several days. The second failure was when video recording using the “REC” button when it would not register the stop press. That day, even the C2 & C1 plus the shutter button would commence video recording but I could only stop recording by turning the camera off. That issue only seemed to occur once!A third issue occurred within the same day or two when a second panorama shoot failed with a warning advising to move slowly in the direction of the arrow….exactly as I had just done 20 seconds before hand. No matter how I changes my pan speed, I received the same failure message. Even holding between my knees with the camera totally still, I received the same fail message.I removed the battery for an hour and reset the camera direction from horizontal to vertical mode and these settings appeared to clear the fault. Whether it was the removing the battery or the other changes, I don’t know.I was not confident in performing a “factory reset” being unable to get support from Sony, and still with many days of our holidays in the Galapagos to go and then risking the possible use of the camera if something went wrong. On contacting Sony Customer Support and explaining the issues, I was only advised to do a factory “initialising’ reset and seeing whether the issues re-arise.!Must have additional batteries. A couple of hours use will flatten one.Not too sure.
I purchased this camera, having done much research. I have had a number of semi and professional camers in the past few years and have got tired of changing lenses all the time. I decided to sell my Canon 5d Mk iv and a couple of lenses and purchase the RX-10 Mk iv and change left over. I am glad I did, the RV 10 is a great all rounder with a great zoom range and fantastic frame rate. I was surprised at the low light capability considering the reviews that said that it was not great. Anyway if not great it is good enough for me as a great walk-about camera. If I want better I have other cameras and lenses to use.
I owned this camera for the better part of a year, making approx.10k images with it. The Carl Zeiss lens is probably this camera's greatest asset. It also produces very high quality video. I was somewhat disappointed with its jpeg image quality, so felt required to shoot raw. The slowness of start-up and motorized zooming, relatively poor dynamic range of its images and the complexity of menu navigation led me to sell it and return to an APS-C DSLR outfit. Later iterations of the RX10 are improved, and very popular. I believe this first version could still be a satisfying camera at the right price.
