I own a training gym and I was looking for something with a little wider aperture to grab some higher quality photos for my social media and website. I already had a Sony A6000 from a few years ago, but the kit lens isn't really ideal for this application. The 50mm has been amazing so far and makes me feel like a much better photographer than I actually am. As a guitarist by hobby, I know that buying high quality equipment is a great way to stoke the spark of interest and having low-budget stuff can really squash it.Would definitely recommend to friends or family!

I needed a bit longer lens for a week long event I was covering. B&H had this to me in two days and boy did this lens do a LOT of work. Paired with a6600 IBIS the 50mm with OSS is really steady. I was able to cover pro tennis matches with impressive stabilization. I love the a6600 with APSC lenses because they are small and mobile. Are there better quality lenses?...yes, but this lens is great for what it is. Compact build,OSS and pretty good image!Like I said before this lens gets the job done and pretty well. My lenses for video:Sony 11mm f1.8Sony 15mm f1.4GSony 35mm f1.8 OSSSony 50mm f1.8 OSS

This is a nice, sharp, stabilized, 50mm prime for apsc Sony cameras at a moderate price. It is a go-to lens for Sony a6000 series shooters. It is sharper than the kit lens, focuses fast.Stabilization is good and close-up focus distance is decent, considering it is not a macro lens.I use it mostly for portraits and close-up photography. It would be better if it was a f1.4 rather than 1.8.I would rate this lens higher but it is replacing an identical one that failed. That being said, I liked it enough to buy it again.

I had this for a few weeks now and, I'm so happy to have bought it! It's really good at making a shot look like it comes from a professional, even though I'm just starting tonlearn the alpha camera and the lens. The really low F means that the blur behind your subject will be creamy and smooth, your subject will always be in good light and the focus... I cannot fault the focus! Fast, silent and very precise. It separates even detail like individual hairs from the blury background, brings upfront a lot of details and textures. It never took better pictures than with this lens. Untill now, I've had the best camera phones and having more cameras on a phone and being able to have such a wide range of abilities though, makes you realise how versatile the phone is in ... MoreI had this for a few weeks now and, I'm so happy to have bought it! Untill now, I've had the best camera phones and having more cameras on a phone and being able to have such a wide range of abilities though, makes you realise how versatile the phone is in comparison to a camera and a good lens. It puts in perspective the advantages and disadvantages. This is a good seagway to my cons about the lens, of which I only have 1. Because it is a fixed lens, it only does 50mm, it's quite cropped. This means the between the camera and what you're shooting, there needs to be a lot of room. This makes the lens hard to use indoors, unless you're in a huge room. Having said that, if you do have the room to frame your subject, you will be hard-pressed to find a better lens for the money. It's dead easy to use and the materials look and feel good!
I’ve read a lot of mixed reviews about the lens and was expecting very ordinary images. But I’ve been very pleased with the results I’ve had. Expect that autofocus is slow and the barrel is plasticky. It’s a low cost lens after all. But the image quality is quite good for a day to day amateur photographer - i.e. 95% of photographers.
Shocked by the performance of this lens for the price. While it's not a bad lens, it should be half the cost. I think people have been trained to believe that a basic lens like this is worth 400 bucks, or that a phone is worth 2 grand. This lens is another example of how corporate fixing affects perceived values.
If you are looking to buy a first prime lens for your kit, this is a great place to start. I bought this lens first before buying the 18-105mm f4 G zoom lens and still keep this lens in my rotation paired with the a6400. Chromatic aberration is definitely present between f1.8-f3 around sharply contrasting edges but gets better beyond that. It's a $300 lens so you cannot expect it to be as sharp as a Zeiss, but the quality of images it produces is still stunning. Really nice bokeh. When this lens was initially released, many users were unhappy with the slow autofocus, however firmware upgrades have improved this greatly. I still find that it is not fast enough to shoot sports, or anything fast paced. It's not internally stabilized, so do not expect to use this for video unless you are using a gimbal or tripod. I mainly use this lens for portraits and low light. Taking into account the limitations, it is still a great lens and worth purchasing.
The little nifty fifty really lives up to its name, it has been a very versatile and amzinging little lens, while it does not have stablization built into it...it has a manual focus ring which really allows you to get hands on in manual mode. And if you reverse the lens in front of your camera you actually get a macro lense too....I would not use this feature outdoors as you don't have that tight seal as you would when you attached lens right way, but inside getting those close shots it's a cool feature. But all in all its an amazing lens that captures great portrait style photos and makes you move around and get into your environment and makes you work. And it does amazing black and whites. Thanks sony for a great little prime lense.
I have an ETSY shop and I have to do product photography to be able to display my crafts. After a few years of taking images and learning how to take pictures, I wanted to upgrade. I have a Sony A6100 with a kit lens but I wanted to upgrade my images without breaking the bank. The Sony E 50mm OSS was perfect for me as an upgrade. Very happy with my purchase! Everything went smoothly.
The Sony E 50mm f/1.8 OSS Lens is a fantastic lens for portrait photography (and other styles too) on the Sony Mirrorless camera range specifically for those, like the A6400 that do not have built in OSS on the camera itself meaning the addition of this in the lens can really assist in stabilising your shots. The low F stop value provides excellent bokeh to really make your shots pop.The lens arrives as you would expect with a front and rear cap (rear cap will fit on your other lenses too, which is good if you have a lens that was bundled with your camera that likely didn't have it's own rear cap.It also has a lens hood to help control light flairs that fits very easily to the lens, and when not in use can be reversed to sit over the lens in a non bulky ... MoreThe Sony E 50mm f/1.8 OSS Lens is a fantastic lens for portrait photography (and other styles too) on the Sony Mirrorless camera range specifically for those, like the A6400 that do not have built in OSS on the camera itself meaning the addition of this in the lens can really assist in stabilising your shots. The low F stop value provides excellent bokeh to really make your shots pop.The lens arrives as you would expect with a front and rear cap (rear cap will fit on your other lenses too, which is good if you have a lens that was bundled with your camera that likely didn't have it's own rear cap.It also has a lens hood to help control light flairs that fits very easily to the lens, and when not in use can be reversed to sit over the lens in a non bulky manor. The price point of this lens is significantly cheaper than that of it's closest rival (Sigma 56 f/1.4) without it being hugely compromising on the quality of the images - and it's a Sony lens for a Sony camera which always has its benefits.Whilst I have not had a chance to use this lens as much as I would have liked so far, I have been very happy with photos taken of my family and of certain animals at a zoo - I am yet to fully test it in a street photography situation, but feel it will hold up very well if you raise the f stop level a bit.
