I was slightly disappointed by the hook up methods of this although that is my problem. It's a connection that isn't in any of our tvs which means it's ultimately useless to us except for the fact that it hooks up to our cable box. But then the system only works with watching cable, and not anything else that comes through the tv. So, very disappointed in that. I would recommend doing further research and getting one that connects through a common port like an hdmi unless you have a newer tv that will have the connection input. The sound isn't bad. It's fuller than a normal tv but I didn't think the sound was anything too special especially for a Sony product. Perhaps because I can't watch it with any movies that will really showcase its potential. The Bluetooth is ... I bought this as a gift for my boyfriend and had it been up to me, I would return it and get a different one but he's chosen to settle for this one and instead decided it gives him a reason to buy a new tv. -_-

For it's price, the sound quality is fantastic. Buy it if you have the opportunity it is really a good bargain especially if you have a 40" - 55" TV or casual media centre at home. If you are not an audio addict or perfectionist (who's very particular with every detail about sound and audio settings and surround room placement... blah blah) then this is already an audio setup that is very good. If you are familiar with using 2.1 speakers (desktop PC with subwoofers) then this is a much better upgrade in terms of sound quality / spacing to your media center. In fact, the reason I bought this is because the bar saves more space than a two desktop speakers. With 80W sound power, the quality is remarkable and the subs as well. Combine it with your own in-media audio preferences / equalizer settings and you're all set. It also comes with a free optical audio cable and you can choose between optical, bluetooth and analog modes.

I picked this up for a great deal and I couldn't be happier. First thing I did was pop in the new Transformers movie and--while the movie was just 'meh'--the sound was awesome. It took some tweaking to get the settings I liked, but compared to other sound bars I've dealt with at friends' and family's places, this one by Sony was very simple to change the settings on. Most of it right on the remote. While it would be nice for there to be some sort of text display on the bar itself that shows the setting you're on and what not, the LED light notifications do well enough on their own.I ended up turning the bass and treble all the way up. When i first plugged it in, they were both at default (all the way down) and I found I liked it best when they were both taken up ... MoreI picked this up for a great deal and I couldn't be happier. Especially with the booming explosions during a game of Call of Duty. The sound is great for watching movies (especially on Blu Ray), Netflix, or playing games. There is not much of a 'surround sound' feel, but maybe if I moved the subwoofer to a different part of the room it would.Overall, while there are definitely better soundbars out there, this one is a great option that rivals some of the more expensive ones at a fraction of the cost.

We have a space that is 36 inches wide where we'd like to place a sound bar, which limits choices because many sound bars are 37 to 42 inches wide. First, we purchased a Visio SB2920-D6, but it has very large increments in sound for each click of the volume control (and no subwoofer is included), so it's very hard to select a comfortable volume. Based on Sony HTCT80 reviews regarding the small increments in volume adjustments, we purchased this sound bar (which includes a subwoofer) and overall we like it much better. The Visio SB2920-D6 serves as a good portable sound bar (no subwoofer) that we can move around the house, especially to the garage, given the high volume, and elsewhere.Upon inserting the digital optical audio cable, the flap/door and spring ... The Visio SB2920-D6 serves as a good portable sound bar (no subwoofer) that we can move around the house, especially to the garage, given the high volume, and elsewhere.Upon inserting the digital optical audio cable, the flap/door and spring separated from the hinge point and wedged itself inside the port. (Yes, I installed the cable carefully and properly--I've done this many times before with other sound equipment.) I suspect the door was never properly seated in the hinge. I had to remove the flap and spring with needle-nose pliers. Rather than returning the sound bar (20 miles) for one with a properly installed optical light cover, I spent an hour making a block that surrounds and holds the optical audio cable so that it fits snuggly inside the recessed area for the connection... As always, the manufacturer's quality-control failure becomes the customer's burden. Otherwise, the quality seems fine.Pros:- Android NFC app- Good sound- Small volume control increments- Remote has a separate subwoofer volume controlCons:- Incorrectly installed/broken digital optical port door (light cover) from the factory
The audio board in my TV failed without warning and instead of paying hundreds for TV repairs, I ordered this Sony soundbar. The optical cable (included) enabled me to bypass the audio board of the TV and have great sound without repairs to the TV. The Sony soundbar's sound is clearer and better than the TV's original speakers by far and It was simple to hook up. I ordered this item online without actually seeing in person first. The soundbar itself is longer than I originally expected, but not intrusive and not a problem. It also has mounts on the back if you wanted to mount it on the wall - I chose to sit it in front of the TV. The sub woofer is compact and sounds great. Some people have written that they dislike that the power indicator light is on the top of the bar. Personally I like this feature - when watching a movie or TV, I don't want to be distracted by a blue power light shining back at me. Mine did not include a manual for adjusting settings via the remote control, which would have been nice. But 5 minutes pushing buttons and you can figure it out pretty quick. Overall, I am extremely pleased with this purchase. For the price, I think the quality of sound and hardware is fantastic.
The Sony CT80 is a good budget soundbar. The soundbar has much louder and fuller sound than my big screen Sony TV. Definitely an improvement but probably not gonna satisfy hardcore audiophiles. I don't consider myself an audiophile but big music fan and musician and the sound is fine for me.It has some good features like a remote that controls the input (optical, bluetooth, analog). The bluetooth connected sound is pretty good but of couse hard wired is gonna give you the most stable and best quality connection. There are some sound adjustments (clear audio, clear voice, surround) which are not too bad and may be good when watching movies to enhance voices etc. Setup is a breeze with no issues installing it. I don't like the look of soundbars in front of my TV but this one is acceptable and low profile. There is a separate subwoofer volume adjustment which is nice. However, for the price you are not getting some advanced features. Fist thing I noticed when unboxing was the subwoofer has a paper cone speaker. That is the one thing I avoid buying in speakers is paper because polypropylene speaker cones are far superior. However, the subwoofer is not much a part of the sound because the soundbar is predominantly the driver so it is not really a big issue. The subwoofer is the weakest link in the soundbar but it is still acceptable. Although, it would be easy to swap out the speaker for a polypropylene cone woofer if you really wanted to. However, the soundbar does have polypropylene cones which is probably why the sound is much more dominant. No HDMI inputs or output is another feature you don't get. The one thing I was hoping for was that the volume control could be controlled by my Sony TV but that didn't work. Another thing is the lack of power when watching TV or movie the sound doesn't go super loud. I prefer to have more power upside left over but again acceptable. However, with my computer, tablet, or phone hooked up the volume is plenty loud because of the extra volume controls amplifies the sound. For 100 bucks it is very good. It is much improved sound over the TV speakers.
Completely disappointed with this product. This sound bar was great for about 3 months while it worked. After that, I got 2 amber blinking lights and it eventually just stopped working (I couldn't turn on or off the soundbar) I spent >$100 on a quality sound bar that I wanted to last for years but I guess I didn't do enough research and now Sony refuses to replace my sound bar so I'm down $120. Hopefully you all will read this review before getting into the situation that I am now. Look elsewhere, preferably not Sony because of how bad their customer support has been when trying to get a new sound bar or at minimum Sony store credit. When we buy technology, it's an investment that we expect to last a while (especially over $100). This would receive 0 stars if it was ... MoreCompletely disappointed with this product. Great sound, great look, and overall great design. This soundbar is enough and more. For a 12x12 bedroom its perfect! The soundbar itself is good and the subwoofer is great. They both do the job and much more. Whether its for movies, tv, music, or gaming, it does the job. I love it. And the bluetooth is amazing im so glad Sony put this feature in this soundbar. The only feature i wish Sony had done with this sound bar was wireless everything. Because the 3 cords do make it look a little sloppy and for me being a perfectionist/ocd i really would have loved the simple cordless and clean look. One tip if you do decide to buy this soundbar look everywhere even under the white styrofoam because i almost threw away the soundbars remote. Now if you want an amazing mind ... Now if you want an amazing mind blowing surround sound system, im sorry this is not for you. Go for something around $1000 then you'll get exactly what you want. But if you need something far more exceding than flat screen tv speakers this is what you need.
The subwoofer on this system is useless. The sound is decent when the system decides to work which I is very sporadic. Based on the reviews I clearly must have received a defective system. I am actually going to return this system. If you are looking for a decent sound with a bit of base then pass this system by. This is not a good buy for the price. I have a Philips system that was actually on clearance for cheaper than this system and it works 100 times better. For the price I wasn't expecting nothing spectacular but definitely better then what I am getting from this system. Again I will be returning this after only 4 days of usage and yes I have installed the system correctly and I have ruled out the possibility of the issue being with my TV or set up.
I bought a Sony Soundbar to go with my new Sony Bravia 49" 'smart' TV expecting a reasonable degree of 'smart' integration of the 2 products. Whilst the soundbar is a perfectly good product in its own right with great sound for the price it unfortunately falls short on the integration front. First thing you notice is that you have a separate remote control with no facility to control the sound through the soundbar from the Sony TV remote. So; two remotes already and for anyone with Sky or Virgin Media that's 3 needed for your viewing experience. The next (little) problem rolls on from the first. So; two remotes already and for anyone with Sky or Virgin Media that's 3 needed for your viewing experience. The next (little) problem rolls on from the first. Because there is no integration, when you adjust the volume for the soundbar there is no display for the volume level on the TV. The final problem, small again but really annoying! is that when you sit the soundbar in the natural place directly in front of the TV it gets in the way of the receive sensor for the remote control on the TV meaning you have to raise the TV remote in your normal sitting position to get a clear line of site and make it work. Bearing in mind I am talking about two new Sony products, I wouldn't expect this to happen. Another 1cm higher for the TV stand would have rectified this so Sony are clearly not testing their products together. If you don't mind working around these niggles it does what it says on the tin but 3 out of 10 Sony for integrating your products.
