I absolutely love these headphones and I use them everyday. It has so many amazing features including noise cancellation which makes it perfect to use even on airplane as well. The quality of the sound is fantastic, you can enjoy hours of battery when just charged fully. For me its battery life is so good, you don’t have to charge it again and again. It is so easy to clean, so easy to charge, and easily fits in your bag. I’d definitely highly recommend it.

Bought these to replace my broken Sony MDR-XB950N1 headphones that I absolutely loved.....until their bad design caught up with them and one of the earphones became detached from the headband (the plastic broke), but that's not going to happen with these--much better structural design. Loved those headphones!!!! The sound is very good and clear. I’ve never tried other wireless headphones, but if I compare this with echo buds, I think the quality is almost the same. The battery last long. I’ve used it least 3 to 4 hours in one week, and the battery level stayed above 50%. If I didn’t use it for several days or weeks, the battery level is still high. I’m really impressed

Fantastic! had them for almost five years now.
25 July 2023

Dont usually write a review ever but I will now. Ive had these headphones for almost five years and i use them everyday almost constantly! Ive travelled with them, studied with them everywhere! You name it. The sound is so awesome but I definitely think you NEED to get the sony app to tune them to your liking. I also replaced the ear pad to the memory foam that cools down your ears on amazon and that has upped the comfort and quality of sound by a lot. I've tried beats headphones and to be honest its pretty bad in my opinion. Just keep in mind tho one thing I dont like is that the sound bleeds from the headphones a lot so people can hear what you are listening to in a quiet room if you are even listening to music moderately loud.

Great Features, Headphones are Immaculate

I got gifted these 4 years ago and they are still in amazing condition. They are the best headphones I have with the noise cancelling option I feel fully submerged in any music I listen to. You can also change how you listen on the app and the club setting and arena are my favourites- they really make you feel like you’re in those settings. I love these headphones and in my opinion they’re even better than apple airpods. They’re comfortable and look so good!

Great wireless headphones

Prior to these I had some competitor analogue wireless headphones that charged on a stand. They were eventually failing, and so I was looking for some bluetooth wireless headphones to replace them, ideally with a built-in microphone (both being features my old headphones didn't have), and was recommended to look at Sony. Buying these, I was wary about them being recharged by USB instead of having a charging stand to keep them on, but I needn't have worried - the battery life is so long I've only just had to charge them! When they got low, I just plugged them in once I'd finished with them. I didn't need to interrupt what I was doing, as even at "low" they had _hours_ of use left. The sound quality is excellent, the built-in microphone is surprisingly good, despite not having a mic boom. They are reasonably comfortable and quite sound-isolating so keep out background noise quite well even with the noise cancelling disabled. The Bluetooth support works with up to 8 devices (I'd seen other reviews saying it can only be paired to one device at a time, and this is not true) but I had a couple of small issues - after pairing with my phone it automatically changed the NC button to a "google assistant" button, even though I declined to set that up - so it stopped doing anything useful. I had to download the Sony Headphone app to change it back to being a noise cancelling on/off button. It doesn't seem to be possible to set functions like that from a PC. It would also be nice to set the default noise cancelling to off as I primarily use them in quiet environments and battery life is better with noise cancelling disabled.Overall I like these headphones and would recommend them.

Great, Comfortable Headphones

These headphones are great. Really comfortable and easy to set up.I have wired Xtreme Xplosives and I'm prone to dancing to music and having the phone fall out of my pocket and rip the wire out, which will inevitably damage the wire. I bought these so I can dance without wires, and I need the noise cancellation feature to block our external stimuli to avoid me being over stimulated and having an Asperger's Meltdown. These are great as I can leave my phone charging in the bedroom and listen to music in the kitchen. As soon as I put them on, I could immediately tell they were noise cancelling (My XX are noise isolating and there's a big difference).I like the integration of Alexa or Google Assistant and how quick it is to set up after connecting to the Bluetooth. ... MoreThese headphones are great. The NC button on mine is a direct link to GA as I leave the NC feature on on the headphones. I also like the ease of the 'Sony Headphones Connect' app. They're very comfy, and I can wear them for almost the entire day, especially with my glasses - the only minor inconvenience is I have to make them a little bigger on my head, so as to not press my glasses into my nose, but that is a minor niggle and a personal preference, not a headset issue.I have been using these for several days now and I've yet to charge them - the little automated voice in the left cup tells me that the battery is "medium", so I'll probably charge when she tells me it's )"low". (Perhaps a percentage for the battery would be more convenient as "low" could be anywhere between 15 and 2% - that is the only thing which could be improved upon.)Another great feature of these headphones is the large over-ear cups and the larger 'hole' to maximise sound output (in comparison to my XX with a smaller 'hole' in the middle of the cups, which means there is less sound coming through the headset.)Overall, great headphones and well worth $99.99 (which is roughly £64, which for a pair of Sony Noise Cancellation Headphones is a fantastic price!)

[Rewarded Review] Excellent Sound, Nice Build
2 April 2018

I’ve had a relationship with Sony products for more than a few decades and I have a number of pieces of Sony audio gear that I still use and a couple of them are over thirty years old and still going strong (AM/FM portable radio and ST-J75 component FM stereo tuner). That says something about the quality of the construction and the excellence of their designs. The WH-CH700N wireless headphones with active noise canceling carries on that same excellence of design in my opinion.Right now I have ANC headphones from four different manufacturers in the house (three wireless and one wired, and one wireless set that does not have ACN) and the Sony is hands down the winner when it comes to controls, both the design and the tactile feel and operation of the buttons and ... MoreI’ve had a relationship with Sony products for more than a few decades and I have a number of pieces of Sony audio gear that I still use and a couple of them are over thirty years old and still going strong (AM/FM portable radio and ST-J75 component FM stereo tuner). That says something about the quality of the construction and the excellence of their designs. The WH-CH700N wireless headphones with active noise canceling carries on that same excellence of design in my opinion.Right now I have ANC headphones from four different manufacturers in the house (three wireless and one wired, and one wireless set that does not have ACN) and the Sony is hands down the winner when it comes to controls, both the design and the tactile feel and operation of the buttons and switches. Sony has spread the controls over both ear cups rather than fitting them onto just one. This helps immensely with the operation of the features. Size and layout of the controls make them easy to use, and the LEDs are easy to see in normal lighting.Sizing of the ear cups are slightly larger when compared to the other over-the-ear phones I have (the Sony is the gray colored cushion in the accompanying photo) and the cushioning makes them comfortable to wear for hours at a time. The ear cups swivel so that the headphones lie flat for packing, but they do not fold in any way. At this price point you don’t get real leather and metal finishes, but the plastics and vinyl used are of a nice quality and feel substantial enough for the price paid. Money isn’t wasted on exorbitant packaging to give a luxury feel to a part of the purchase that most people are going to toss in the trash. Sony put the money saved on mainstream packaging into the product you are actually going to use. There is no carrying case or pouch, but I wonder how many people actually use that accessory. If you really need one, it should be an easy item to source. You do get an 18 inch USB to micro-USB charging cord (yay for non-proprietary connectors) and a 48 inch mini-phone plug to mini-phone plug (one end being 90 degrees) audio cable for using the headphones with a wired connection. This cable uncoils nicely and does not retain the bends in it from being packaged up.There is a smartphone app called Sony Headphones Connect that I used on my iPhone 8, and regardless of the App Store reviews, I found the app to work flawlessly and as intended. It allowed me to custom tailor an equalizer curve that made these headphones sound wonderful to me. There are also preloaded equalizer settings, along with an extra bass boost (called Clear Bass) and with all of the variations on EQ available to a user, anyone should be happy with the sound quality of these headphones. There is also a sound effects mode called Surround VPT that supposedly mimics certain musical venues, but I found that the preprogrammed options had a detrimental effect on the sound quality. I think most people who are music enthusiasts have a few “go-to” songs when evaluating headphones or speakers, and these Sony headphones easily passed all of my personal “tests”.All active noise canceling headphones I have used deal with constant noise (hums, hisses, droning, etc) better than transient noise (short lived, pops, thumps, bangs, etc) because of how this technology works - listening for the noise so that it can create an equal but opposite wave form to cancel the unwanted noise. I work in a noisy environment with average decibel readings between 82 and 88 dB from constant conveyor and capping equipment. There are also transient banging or clacking noises from carriers on the conveyors or air-driven transfer arms that move carriers from one conveyor to another. These Sony headphones work just as well as any of the other brands I have used, including the other four-letter brand that most people associate with active noise canceling. Constant noise is eliminated almost completely and transient noise is dealt with as well as can be expected. One ear cup has a dedicated button to turn the ANC on and off and what I like about this is that the sound quality of the music changes very little if at all and battery life is extended if you don’t need noise canceling. Turning the main power off on the headphone also turns off any equalization you have selected with the Headphones Connect app, but the sound quality is still very good especially when compared to a pair of wired ACN headphones I have that sound terrible when I turn off their power. If you need ACN headphones, I don’t think you can go wrong with the WH-CH700N as your choice. I found nothing about them to dislike which is unusual for me as I almost always find something I don’t like about virtually any product. Fit, finish, adjustability, functionality and the accompanying phone app all are appropriate for this price point. If you desire a more luxurious feel to your headphones, I would definitely look a little higher in Sony’s line-up and wouldn’t be afraid to make a purchase without auditioning them first.

[Rewarded Review] Good, but Room for Improvement
23 March 2018

While very good, there is a lot of room for improvement with the Sony WH-CH700N Noise Cancelling headphones. The headphones seem to want to compete with more expensive options like the Sony 1000X Premium headphones or those from companies like Bose, but do come up a little short. The headphones are fairly lightweight, but also feel like they have a little less quality than competing headphones. Also, my headphones came with something loose or already broken off in the left earpiece; sounds like a small piece of plastic (like a broken tab) floating around, which I found quite annoying. The ear foam is comfortable, as is the padded head band, but the less-dense ear foam does reduce the amount of actual noise cancelling that occurs, and I found that I was still ... MoreWhile very good, there is a lot of room for improvement with the Sony WH-CH700N Noise Cancelling headphones. The tradeoff with that is that you’re forced to change the mode from one where it focuses primarily on sound quality to one that focuses primarily on connection strength in order to adjust sound options. And unlike other Sony noise cancelling headphones like the 1000X models, the WH-CH700N only has 2 noise cancelling modes – on or off (the 1000X models include an “ambient” mode which picks up on outside noise & mixes it in digitally with the headphone sounds for situational awareness when walking, running, or biking). Would have liked to have seen the ambient option included, even if it wasn’t an automatic thing like it is with the 1000X where it detects what activity you’re doing & configures the noise cancelling level accordingly. There are multiple buttons on the headphones to control multiple aspects of the device, including play/pause, fast forward, and rewind with a single, multi-position jog button, NC on or off, and volume up/down. There is also a wired input in the event you want to connect directly to a headphone jack on your phone or on a plane. There is also a micro USB port for charging the headphones. Micro USB and “aux” cords are included in the box. Connection to the headphones is via standard Bluetooth pairing or auto config using NFC-enabled devices. The headphones boast a 35-hour play time, which is excellent for active noise cancelling headphones in this arena. You also get up to an hour of function with only 10 minutes of charge, which is nice if you forgot to charge the headphones & are about to head out on your commute.Bottom Line:The WH-CH700N is a decent, entry-level headphone if you’re looking to enter the noise cancelling arena, making active cancellation a bit more affordable. But the affordability does show in the construction, sound (without app manipulation), and features. Given the choice, I would opt to spend a little bit more money on one other higher Sony options.

[Rewarded Review] Hard to beat active noise cancellation

Sony is a brand that's pretty well known for both high quality audio products and adding in way more bells and whistles than most other manufacturers. A variety of bluetooth codecs, a jack to allow you to plug in a wired connection, impressively long battery life, built in controls, and so on. And I have to say these headphones follow both traditions. The headphones have pretty much everything you'd expect from high quality over the ear bluetooth headphones these days. A variety of bluetooth codecs, a jack to allow you to plug in a wired connection, impressively long battery life, built in controls, and so on. And they're all just as good as you'd expect from a premium brand. The headphones are lightweight and very comfortable to wear, though albeit they don't block out quite as much external noise as some when you're just wearing them on your head. They've also got support for NFC pairing, which allows you to just tap the headphones to a phone or other NFC enabled device to quickly pair them without needing to go through the usual menus. But let's face it, you probably already know all of this. The big feature is the active noise cancellation. And these headphones are exemplary in that department. The key thing that sets this apart is that unlike most noise cancelling headphones which merely have an on/off switch, there are a lot of different ways to configure the noise cancellation system on these. Holding down the noise cancellation button will switch it between the standard mode and an AI assisted version which will listen to the sounds around you try to pick out which ones it should focus on to achieve the best results. I can't say that the difference between the two is hugely noticeable, but there is a difference and the tech does seem to work pretty well. Unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to test it on an airplane yet, but I have tried it out in environments such as a busy hospital, the backseat of a car, and a datacenter filled with very noisy server racks. And while it did seem that it took the AI mode a little time to acclimate to the environment, the difference between having the headphones on and having them off was really quite striking. Not only that, but I was still able to clearly hear the voices of people trying to talk to me through the noise cancellation, something that immediately makes me like these a lot more than some of the headphones I've tried which block out audio through less high tech means. And if that's not enough, the headphones come with an app which will let you fine-tune the performance of the headphones yourself to get the exact settings you want. While I'll freely admit that I'm nowhere near knowledgeable to use this particular feature fully, the app is fairly easy to work with and even I was able to work out roughly how to tweak the settings to optimize my listening experience for music or movies. I think the best example of how good this can work is when I let a friend of mine with some issues hearing try them out, as she hadn't ever really seen the point in investing in noise cancelling headphones. Not only did she discover that the noise cancelling was a lot more effective than she'd expected, but she was able to get it set to the point where she was actually able to clearly watch a TV show without needing to have the subtitles on!It's frankly a little hard to say more than that. Yes, there are a few flaws associated with the tech. Noise cancellation does tend to produce a slight but noticeable background static, for instance, which can have a noticeable effect on the overall clarity of the audio you're listening to. The maximum volume was a bit lower than I expected and I'm a little disappointed that the headphones didn't come with some kind of carrying case or longer cables for charging or using a cabled connection. But I can't say that these are issues that are in any way dealbreakers. Quite simply, these headphones work so well that I'd be willing to overlook far greater flaws if I could find any!
