Best Stanley Knife Bring Back

Super practical knife for job site/ nail bag. Straight forward easy use for professional, easy to replace and store new blades. My apprentices keep trying to pinch mine as they are hard to come by now. Would be great to see them back on shop shelves.

I've had this knife several years, had other Stanley knives that just couldn't handle daily use. I bought this for drywalling, didn't care for the 199, after years of hard use it's finally needing to be replaced. Hard to find them in stores tho.

Unless you are in the industry, pass this knife by. It is not intuitive. No way can you figure out how to change the blade. It does not have a screw on the side to open up the housing. You can pull off the rubber to reveal a place that blade storage may go, but it is not conveniently stored. The blades (2 side by side) are still firmly in place and I can not figure out how to remove them safely. I'm on the internet hoping to find a video or instruction and there is nothing to be found. So since I've had this blade for so long and just figured it didn't retract, it is now going in to the landfill.

Good!
13 August 2015

It's a little heavy for a woman like me but it's good for a heavy duty. Good material and come with 5 blades but there's no a retractable blade. Anyway, there's a cartridge hold up to 5 blades inside the knife.

Great nKnife easy to change out blades
6 April 2019

I bought this knife at Menard and have been using at work for a few months now. The ease of blade changes makes this knife a great addition to any toolbox.

Not as pictured
11 February 2016

The product description does say fixed blade, which it is, meaning non-retractable. However, I based my purchase on the photo used, which is exactly like the type I currently have and was looking for. Now I get to return this item - oh boy!

Not half the knife of its predecessor.
19 January 2017

This knife isn't half the knife of its predecessor the cast aluminum 0-10-818. The knob for opening the knife is much smaller and not very easy to get a firm grip on. Sorry I bought this product.

Piece of junk
9 January 2022

The Stanley FatMax Carpet knife feel apart when I opened it. The spring does not stay or fit into the handle anymore. No directions show its orientation. There is a magnet that moves whenever you try to put a blade into the knife. This falls out of the slot all the time. The blade then falls out. Why did they stop making a carpet knife with one screw to open it and change the blade? This crap is designed so badly I wonder if the engineers ever tried changing a blade. Don't buy Stanley anymore. Their other "easy change" blade carpet knife is just as bad and I had to return it because the blade eithers falls out or falls into the handle while trying to cut anything.

Should've bought the original retractable Stanley
1 August 2020

The tool has two design issues. First is the packing which is locked under the center screw and leaves sharp edges when pulled off the knife as directed; it took five minutes with a pair of wire cutters to get it out. Second, the blade must be installed and removed by hand. It's both unsafe to leave it in after use, and will damage other tools if left exposed in a box.

What a utility knife should be
28 January 2019

I bought this to replace the FatMax retractable blade knife I have that constantly looses its blade. While you need to mount a blade each time you use the knife, the blade stays perfectly locked in position allowing you to cut though materials with out the blade pulling out. The handle fits well in you hand as well.
