If you visit a construction site, it doesn’t matter if it’s new construction or remodeling, & you look at the workers using utility knives, the chances are that they are using a Stanley. Doesn’t matter what style is chosen Stanley has them covered.Admittedly, most chose a retractable blade for safety reasons. That said, I personally find that if I need to use the knife repeatedly in a short time span, I choose a fixed blade. I overcome the downside of causing damage to the pocket it goes in so often by taking a piece of aluminum trim & bending it to fit inside my knife pocket without interfering with my hand as I grab & release the knife.Using a fixed blade is far more stable a configuration for repeated &/or heavy pressure situations. Needless to say there are a large number of choices of manufacturers, but somehow or another Stanley seems to know how to fit their tools to the job, to the user’s hand, & to the way in which it is holstered. I have never heard complaints about Stanley knives. There are preferences among some individuals, but even most of them are price comparisons. It’s hardly a deal-breaker for the professional who relies on his tools for his livelihood. Stanley stands alone - in my opinion!

This knife is great for carving, tough tasks, and outdoor work. The ultimate in durability. Super solid and strong. Holds the blade extremely well. Beats retractable options for confidence in the cut. However, you have to have a sheath or toolbelt to keep it safe. Kind of dangerous, but great for drywall, trim, floors, or electrical where a solid utility knife is key. Beats the fat max knife!

I have been using razor knifes for a long time. I have always leaned to using fixed blades for doing trim work. When working on windows and siding, it is the best tool around. It works so much better than having to set the blade each time you go to use it. The retractable blade is great but opening it and closing it a hundred times a day, they fail within weeks. I have some of these that are over 5 years old and they still work. It was great getting a new knife if for nothing else, it looks better than the one it replaced. I have used a single fixed knife for doing more than 1000 windows and siding for many of the houses to compliment.

I am a female working in residential construction. This utility knife Ian perfect for my hand. Its slim compared to other knives out there. Its heavy duty and durable. Ive already used it for a number of remodeling jobs cutting drywall and durock. I recommend this knife to anyone who needs one.
This is a nor-retractable knife. If it's on the bench there's no need for a sheath, but to carry it handily you will need a sheath - I make mine. The reasons for using a non-retractible knife are:1) the blade is more firmly fixed than a retractable blade and will not wiggle as much, nor accidentally retract.2) pull it out of the sheath and it's ready to do its job. Granted this only saves a few seconds - but after a series of cuts time adds up, your thumb is spared repetitive stress and your pocket isn't worn out. This knife holds the blade incredibly firmly - zero wiggle play in the blade for reliable cuts.Truly impressive in that feature.
This is a very basic, FIXED blade knife. For me, personally, this is a bit of an inconvenience as I like to carry a utility knife in my tool pouch, and in order to do that with this knife, I have to also carry a screwdriver to adjust the blade. The knife feels fairly sturdy and is comfortable to hold. If you are looking for something that retracts, I would recommend the STANLEY 10-499 QuickChange knife as I have used it for some time and will ultimately continue to use it over this knife as the ability to easily retract the blade is, in my opinion, invaluable in terms of convenience and safety when considering a utility knife.
The shape of the handle is comfortable to hold and use for extended periods- especially if you are applying a lot of force. This is slightly thinner than older Stanley knives which I find more ergonomic. I was interested in trying this to see how it stacks up against my standard (15 year old Stanley) knife. You need to remove the cover to switch or retract/extend blades which is a bit cumbersome since there is a screw rather than a tool-leas mechanism. This is not ideal for situations in which you are frequently accessing/retracting the blade. Given that there are no moving parts and this is entirely metal, I expect it will last forever. There is room to store several blade inside the tool in a self-contained section. If you are looking for a knife will likely stand up to regular use for tasks that require access to a blade for extended period this will serve your needs well.
I have a few different utility knives used for different purposes. This particular Stanly product I’ve been using for around the house for diy projects. It’s exact, sturdy, has a great grip and easy to swap out blades. Some other utility knives make it really difficult and time consuming to change blades. This one makes it a breeze. It’s good enough to cut kids cardboard projects to drywall and other harder materials. My wife actually stole this from me the other day and calls it hers now. For the price it sells, this is a no brainer utility knife.
This is a classic razor blade knife housing but the construction is really solid and it is extremely durable. I use this knife all the time and it has been through a lot of abuse but it has never loosened or even been scratched! It's always easy to unscrew the body in order to change the razor blade and it tightens right back up without any issues. I like using this knife over other razor knives that I own because the body is much more solid than others and I feel like I have increased cutting power because of it. I would definitely get this knife again.

I replaced all my Utility Knives with the Stanley 10-705 Fixed Blade Utility Knife.Rust is a problem when the 11-921 Blade gets wet. I did find some 92 type Stainless Steel Utility Blades online. None were made by Stanley. I'd like to see Stanley making 92 type stainless blades in the future. A Stanley One Position 10-705 Fixed Blade Utility Knife with a Stanley Stainless Steel Blade would be the perfect Utility knife, Hunters knife, Fishing knife, etc.
