Keyboard is one of my favorites. I use to have a steel series headset but I didn’t really like it but I kept getting recommended this keyboard but was hesitant because I thought I would have a similar experience that I had with their headsets. I’m not a keyboard enthusiast and really wanted something that was decent. This keyboard I would say surprised me because it takes two usb slots and doesn’t come with something to take off the keys caps to clean the keyboard or at least mine didn’t. What I like is the keyboard has a scroll wheel to adjust the audio and a fancy oiled display. You could get a custom oled design but my display couldn’t be uploaded. I may have a bit of bias as my entire setup is Steelseries, but I love this keyboard. It works seamlessly with my other compatible gear. I simply had to plug it into my computer and it was ready. I prefer Cherry switches, and these are super smooth. The features are super fun to play with and are all customizable through Steelseries GG; I didnt think I would use the OLED screen much but using GG I can display hardware monitoring on the screen, saving me from checking task manager. Built in lighting presets and active keys make simply typing out documents fun. Custom function keys by Steelseries allow for quick setup of macros. These are just some of the things it offers and I’ve had it for more than a week now still customizing it discovering new things. The good: full sized keyboard, great magnetic wrist rest, adjustable key pressure for input, great RGB settings, aluminum alloy for the top half of the keyboard, 6 macro keys, on board profiles for all adjustable options. the gaming and typing experience on this has been solid and I have no complaints there. The bad: 200$, with some compromises you can get a very close experience on a keyboard for 50~100 less, even if its missing some of the features. The ugly: a lot of the keyboards features feel like gimmicks that in the future will be awesome fully fledged features, such as the adjustable input depth or the tiny screen on the top right of the keyboard. Both features will likely be made larger and featured on a expensive keyboard as a selling point in the future, ... MoreThe good: full sized keyboard, great magnetic wrist rest, adjustable key pressure for input, great RGB settings, aluminum alloy for the top half of the keyboard, 6 macro keys, on board profiles for all adjustable options. the gaming and typing experience on this has been solid and I have no complaints there. Also the magnetic rest is made with a almost memory rubbery so it is not as comfy as the wrist rets offered by some competitors, but will hopefully last longer. Conclusion: it's a solid keyboard but, like with all premium products you will find much better price performance at a lower price, and the features you don't get are features that are really not needed (The tiny screen and adjustable key input depth). But if your like me and decide you want a 200$+ keyboard for gaming then I recommend this keyboard.

I've been looking for a worthy replacement for my Logitech 810, a no-frills, mechanical, RGB keyboard with a relatively small footprint, and this SteelSeries Apex Pro is everything I need and nothing I don't. The finish is a pleasant feeling matte black which looks nice and doesn't show fingerprints. The edges are also rounded which makes using the keyboard on my lap more comfortable. Construction feels solid but the keyboard is relatively light weight and doesn't feel cumbersome to lift or move. I'm not an expert on switches but the keys feel really nice. I messed around a bit with the adjustable actuation software, and it's pretty cool, though I ended up sticking with the default setting. The lighting is lovely, bright, and sufficiently customizable. I messed around a bit with the adjustable actuation software, and it's pretty cool, though I ended up sticking with the default setting. The lighting is lovely, bright, and sufficiently customizable. One feature about the lighting that made me want to buy this keyboard is that the SHIFT characters on the number row keys are illuminated. It's baffling how more expensive competing products fail to do that. The mini OLED screen on the keyboard is more or less worthless for practical real-world use, but it's aesthetically pleasing, and you can add your own image, so I'm not mad. I was concerned because one Youtube review described the OLED/media scroll and button as feeling cheap and flimsy, but I don't find that to be true. If I had to criticize anything, I'd say the footprint might actually be too small. There is practically nowhere to grip the keyboard if you have to pick it up. First world problems.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with this keyboard. It seems pretty easy to type on, but I haven't made a lot of changes from the default settings. I really like the clarity of the lettering on the keycaps compared to other stylized options. A couple of minor things have popped up in the weeks since I started using it full-time. First, when coming out of sleep, sometimes the keyboard doesn't light up with the profile I selected and everything is just dark. Sometimes when the PC is sleeping, if I (or my cat) touches the keyboard, then it lights up and doesn't seem to shut back off. I like having the wrist rest but this hard yet tacky surface seems like it would be one of the worst choices.
Pros: - quietest keyboard in existence - has number pad (good for work) - quick, customizable, and elegant - disable the windows key and it has on-board memory to remember my preferences after reboot Cons: - not tactile (no physical feedback for button presses... you have taken this for granted without realizing it) - has number pad (bad for mouse-heavy gaming) - lack of OLED display applications (due to price premium; seriously steelseries if you want this to catch on you need to integrate these into cheaper models of your keyboards) - profile switch + macro record button are not remappable (fixed functions) verdict: Don't buy this for the OLED display, it's near useless. Despite this, I believe that the switches are absolutely next generation. I can only hope that they release these switches, boards, and SDK for hobbyists so I can make a version with a better display/ expanded function and programmability. With absolute certainty, I can say that steelseries is working on a new version of this keyboard (likely with an upgraded or touch display). If you can wait, wait; but if you aren't afraid to ball out, go for it. I don't generally buy peripherals brand new, but headsets, keyboards, and mice are always worth it. TL;DR I'll probably buy this for my girlfriend when the new version drops. I only bought this because my old, bargain-bin keyboard has a dead, non hot-swappable switch (i.e. I needed a new keyboard anyway and definitely worth it to me on sale at about $175 after tax). Paired with: Steelseries Rival 5
I am Full-time Engineering college student who likes to play games on my free time or days off. I mostly use my computer for everything such as writing essays/reports, complex math homework all the way to playing Ranked on Apex Legends. I had the issue of wanting a fast keyboard for gaming but then having a good in between for typing. I originally bought the Razer Huntsman TE as it was $70 on sale. I used tactile switches before but started to outgrow that style of switches. Once I tried the linear on the Huntsman TE, I fell in love with linear. The issue was with that keyboard, it sucked for typing, I wrote a whole essay with that keyboard, and it was like driving a sport bike on a road full of ice. I looked at BestBuy's Website and saw this one but $150 on sale ... MoreI am Full-time Engineering college student who likes to play games on my free time or days off. The issue was with that keyboard, it sucked for typing, I wrote a whole essay with that keyboard, and it was like driving a sport bike on a road full of ice. I looked at BestBuy's Website and saw this one but $150 on sale had me on edge as that was a lot of money for a keyboard. After multiple reviews and YouTube Videos I decided to pull the trigger and buy it. I do not have any buyer's remorse after doing so. The ability to set the Actuation to anything between 0.4 to 3.6 is incredible. You can do it from the mini-OLED screen on the board, so no software is required. Now I can go all the way to the lowest level and play games and be super-fast with movements (Even faster than the Huntsman line of keyboard from Razer) or increase the Actuation distance for when I'm typing so I don't have any mistypes. The included Wrist Rest is okay but not razer quality. The Cable is not braided which Razer spoiled me where everything they sell with a cable is braided. The size of this board is however very reasonable and not huge. My wrist does not get uncomfortable typing on this. The above-board key design or style helps with easier cleaning. Hopefully my scenario and experience help most of you make a choice. I am basing my value score on the price that I paid. I really recommend buying it on a sale!
The switches on this keyboard are tactile and fit my personal preferences, it's well made and doesn't slide around on the desk. The rgb patterns are nice if you're into that. All around a great keyboard. The gimmic is being able to tune how far the switches depress before it registers an input. Super sensitive for a twitch sensitive game, or full travel for those who fat finger some keys here and there. For a single person, I don't think I'd recommend this due to the price for the gimmic that you set and then never touch again anyways. But for my machine, it is useful to have multiple profiles to match me and my significant other's typing style. Gone are the complaints of our keyboard being too sensitive!
Pretty sure I already reviewed this. The shipping box was mangled, no padding but lots of room. Inner box was fine but keyboard was bent a bit and I had to fix it by bending the sides in the opposite directions. The gimmick for the keyboard is being able to adjust the distance that you have to press the keys to get them to register as key presses for you. The catch it that the adjustable area is ONLY the small qwerty area 80ish keys. The rest of the keys feel much cheaper in comparison and are much louder. The keyboard and wrist rest have 'soft touch' coating that makes them a little grippy but it'll likely wear off in a year from cleaning and body oils. I currently have the super tiny screen telling me the cpu and gpu temps. It is in the silliest location, unless you are hovering over your keyboard, then you cant see the display because the tenkey is blocking it. TL:DR I would recommend it IF it were ALL adjustable.
this keyboard is trash - lasted 7 months, then started randomly shutting on and off. They made me cut the cord and send them pictures, then they sent me a new one. The new one also lasted 7 months and did the same thing. They said this was 14 months and warranty was fulfilled. Now i can say ive bought a lot of keyboards over the years. Never had one that lasted less than a year twice. The fact they send you one that suffers from the same defect says a lot. This also downloads and launches its adware/crapware package. Best to go for a custom or a razer, i dont think steel series has figured out the keyboard thing just yet.
