This is the first proper coffee machine I've owned and for the price of it I'm really happy. It's a bit plasticy and cheap looking compared to other models, but the parts you use all feel quality - the group handle locks in with a satisfying feel, the steam wand has a firmness of movement, the power button and selector dial feel nice to use, even the water reservoir slides in and out with a perfectly fitted motion. It's a great coffee machine if you're after your first. The product is excellent as well; the espresso comes out with a lovely crema, and with a bit of practice you can make silky, full bodied milk for your latte or flat white. There's something really satisfying about making a nice coffee, and this comes with everything you need to do it.Some reviews ... MoreThis is the first proper coffee machine I've owned and for the price of it I'm really happy. I only use it to make black coffees. Cremas in my coffees are a key thing for my coffees. This machine doesn't make good thick cremas in the same way as earlier Sunbeam machines like the Cafe Crema could do. The coffees from the Sunbeam Mini Barista are a disappointment. The main contributing factor here is the 1 cup or 2 cup feature. This is a sad loss of control over the coffee machine to make the coffee you want to make compared to earlier coffee machines. On the plus side, it is a compact machine and relatively low cost. However, if I had my time again, I would have shopped around for a second-hand Cafe Crema because they did make better coffees than this can.

This is the second Sunbeam Mini Barista I have owned and have purchased an additional machine for the office. It's outstanding for the price range and is compact enough to not overcrowd a smaller kitchen space. It's a commercial sized group handle and a semi commercial steam wand. It heats up quickly and constantly produces cafe quality coffee day after day. The larger steam wand makes heating milk effortless and fast and there is a substantial distance between the drip tray and group handle to place a good sized coffee cup which was one of the most important things I looked for when buying an espresso machine - nothing worse than not having the space to put a mug! My first machine lasted a little over 4 years and the office machine is around 3 and a half years now. ... MoreThis is the second Sunbeam Mini Barista I have owned and have purchased an additional machine for the office. I got given this from a friend who was leaving the country 3 years ago so it was already second hand when I got it.We put relatively average preground coffee into it and have approx. 3-8 cups daily between us. Can't compare to cafe quality as the coffee we use is sub par, combined with a grinder this would probably do really well. Bought a sunbeam drip and it's been amazing too, been through 3 glass jugs (unfortunately couldn't buy replacements) but otherwise it's held up so I'm happy to attest to their quality. The mini barista had a few issues about a year into me owning it (probably 2-3 years old at the time) where it would pulse water through continuously without stopping until manually turned off as if it couldn't get the pressure or get past that first ... MoreI got given this from a friend who was leaving the country 3 years ago so it was already second hand when I got it.We put relatively average preground coffee into it and have approx. 3-8 cups daily between us. Bought a sunbeam drip and it's been amazing too, been through 3 glass jugs (unfortunately couldn't buy replacements) but otherwise it's held up so I'm happy to attest to their quality. The mini barista had a few issues about a year into me owning it (probably 2-3 years old at the time) where it would pulse water through continuously without stopping until manually turned off as if it couldn't get the pressure or get past that first "presetting" step. It happened occasionally then got more regular. I did a few runs through with no coffee and took the plate above where the group handle sits off (one single screw), then gave it a good clean. That only worked for a bit, so I mixed some beer line cleaner (generic napisan could work) but if you've got real sunbeam coffee machine descaler I'd recommend that, but I put that liquid into the water tank and ran it through, cleaned the tank out, flushed it through with water, then a water vinegar mix, then water again - really important to make sure it's been flushed out properly. Haven't had a problem with it since and that was about a year and a half ago.Great value for money, will definitely look at sunbeam options when the time comes to replace it. Really good quality appliances especially for the price, thanks!
This machine is a step down from my previous Breville and is mostly plastic. it is a very basic machine which only comes with a dual wall filter basket. However, the coffee it produces is at the level of my previous, more expensive, machine and produces a lovely crema. At the end of the day, in my opinion, it's the coffee quality that counts. The lack of a star in ease of use is because of the degree of difficulty in attaching the filled basket to the group head. You need to hold the machine with your forearm across the top and it is a bit of a wrestle. However, it does get easier over time. The pump is awesome, and it steams the milk very quickly. I expect that it will not last long so I paid for an extended warranty. Very happy with this machine so far.
The coffee shots are consistently good; extraction timing can be adjusted. But the quality of the casing and chipped group head let down the purchase, from a 4 Star to a 2 star.I complained to Myer & the manufacturer: Sunbeam swiftly sent a replacement group head.Myer eventually replied weeks later, broken-record repeating to box and return the entire unit "if faulty", therefore failing to understand customer satisfaction.Whilst the mini barista is pumps out coffee shots of a consistently good quality, the unit remains a disappointment in terms of build quality and quality control. Even though I’ve only put cups and the group head components on top of the unit on the heating tray, scratches have rapidly appeared. Even though I’ve only put cups and the group head components on top of the unit on the heating tray, scratches have rapidly appeared. I really wonder how bad it’s going to look after a short while. Unlike my 12 year old Saeco Via that looked good even when the internal components were failing, this has certainly been a lesson in not trusting marketing photos until you see it in person. If if was half the price, you'd accept the poor quality control.
After much deliberation for months following the expiry of my trusty 12 year old Saeco, I plumped for this unit: it provides a level of automation required for a household with a toddler, but still allows for a bit of user tweaking, particularly the frother, which is why I don’t want a more automated and or expensive variant. The big disappointment is the group-head has two significant manufacturing chips/defects, straight out the box before my first usage. I’m really not wanting to box everything for such a smaller production fault. Likewise, I concerned that the flaking silver covering is a health hazard.
I have been using this machine for 2 years now, but have had to get it replaced after 1 year. The machine leaked underneath the drip tray, and that was initially why I replaced it. Since replacing it... the same issue has occured. I believe this is now the machine and not a one off situation. I will not be recommending this to anyone and will be looking for another machine.Once the milk is steamed and added to the coffee... I cannot taste the coffee, and so can't my family. The only good side to this machine is that it works fine for iced drinks. This is not worth keeping for only a few months OF THE YEAR when it's too hot to drink hot drinks.
I was looking for a temporary replacement after my big espresso machine broke down and i was having problems finding servicer. This was a very good price and had a 58mm group head so i could keep using my good tamper.Machine is light weight but the grouphead locks without moving the machine. Water tray doesnt have to be emptied every coffee but fairly often or it spills under the machine on removal (but hey machine is light enough to pick up and move to dry underneath). The group head and top of unit (where the cups sit to warm up) doesnt get hot, or even warm- thus my confusion. The shot is very drinkable if a bit frothy. Not enough pressure to get a good ‘mousetail’ stream. But it is decent espresso. The steam wand similar, it actually produces a good microfoam ... MoreI was looking for a temporary replacement after my big espresso machine broke down and i was having problems finding servicer. I have had several Espresso machines over the years and was uncertain about downsizing. The Choice review convinced me to try this out. It makes good coffee with the coffee I grind. Cappuccinos are easy to make if you have used this kind of manual machine before. It is easy to clean and the small drip tray encourages you to empty it frequently. The 2 litre reservoir is a good size because you can make quite a few coffees, but are not tempted to let the water sit in there too long. The 1 and 2 cup pours can be adjusted if you are interested in some reprogramming. If you wish to upgrade the baskets to handle very fine grinds, there are optional extras.
