SUPERTRAMP's "Crime of the Century" is a bewitching auditory journey that will have you questioning your own sanity and grooving along at the same time. From the iconic opening piano chords of "School" to the haunting harmonica solo in "Rudy," this album is a rollercoaster of emotions that will leave you feeling exhilarated and introspective. The band's unique blend of rock, pop, and progressive influences creates a sound that is both timeless and ahead of its time. Each track is a masterclass in songwriting, with lyrics that are clever, poignant, and sometimes downright cheeky. Whether they're tackling heavy topics like disillusionment and isolation in "Hide in Your Shell" or serving up a catchy, infectious pop gem like "Dreamer," SUPERTRAMP keeps you hooked from start to finish. The instrumentation on this album is nothing short of stellar, with intricate guitar solos, lush vocal harmonies, and dynamic keyboard work that will make even the most stoic listener swoon. And let's not forget Roger Hodgson's vocals, which soar effortlessly from gentle crooning to powerful belting, drawing you in with every note. "Crime of the Century" is a true masterpiece that has stood the test of time, cementing SUPERTRAMP's place in music history. So grab your headphones, press play, and get ready to be taken on a sonic adventure like no other.

Many years ago I was introduced to Supertramp and this record. It quickly became one of my favorites. Musically amazing from the moment the needle drops on the record till the final notes on side two. I’m so glad to have found this to add back to my vinyl collection where it belongs. If you like Supertramps ā€œBreakfast in Americaā€ then it would be a ā€œCrimeā€ to not have a copy of this. You won’t be disappointed

I bought this because I have an original pressing that was beginning to develop a little noise from repeated playing over the years. I read on the Steve Hoffman forum that this reissue was remastered and cut by Ray Staff at Air Studios and that the project was meticulously crafted to produce an excellent final product. Unfortunately I believe the skills necessary to bring this project to fruition have been lost to the hands of time. I say this because the pressing I received sounds dull and muffled when compared to my original pressing. The air and space around the instruments is reduced and the separation is less than that on my original pressing. The new vinyl is quieter than the old, but this comes at the aforementioned price of reduced clarity and openness. Not a very good repress.
15 May 2020

This is a repress of a very high quality remaster, i was expecting it to sound great. It sounded terrible though, lots of surface noise even after ultrasonic cleaning. Wouldn't recommend this exact pressing, however the remastering was done well.

Poor quality. Ticks, pops and background noise even after repeated cleaning. Disappointing for a brand new 180 gram album. Research after purchase showed others had this issue too.

Stunning Debut Album!

Supertramps entry into the music scene with this album in 1974 was massive! This remix has not really improved it. Play the original and the true rawness of the songs stand out. If you are missing this album then it's still a classic but if you already have the 1974 pressing it's still the best of them.

On side one, the first song, School has a harmonica. My favorite part. I had to almost put it on max on the volume to hear it. The quieter parts aren't loud enough on this album. To compare I had Taylor Swift's Evermore on last and didn't have a problem with volume or all my other records. Very disappointed. I also have this in a CD and don't have a problem with that either. I love the CD.

Fabulous, high quality, Back 2 Black 180g vinyl 40yr anniversary edition of Supertramp's Crime of the Century. Beautifully presented with original insert, sleeve etc. which are faithfully reprinted to a high quality. Wonderful sound quality, very high resolution and extremely musical! The vinyl is clean, clear and a great, very flat pressing! Excellent spatial quality, very engaging. Wonderful music and lyrics and of course, superb musicianship from Supertramp. Highly recommended, a fantastic job by "Back to Black," buy it, you definitely won't regret it!

Supertramp's masterpiece on vinyl
6 December 2016

My original vinyl copy of Supertramp's Crime of the Century had been damaged badly and was no longer enjoyable to hear so I bought CDs twice which were great but I thought about getting a new LP of the classic album and I'm so glad I did. On vinyl, Crime sounds majestic and is now my first choice medium for this wonderful album.
