This is a good solid entry level Synology unit for home use. Easy to setup, and get multiple Apple computers using it as a backup target. Doesn't take up much space, and its power consumption when not being actively used is pretty low which is nice.

This was my first experience with a NAS and it was very easy to set up and use. Runs very quiet and does not heat up in the slightest even after a full days use.

Overall pretty decent with few caveats:1. Fan is quiet, but it rattles on the lowest setting. On a high setting it is pretty damn loud (but doesn't rattle).2. The network cable it comes with is marked as Cat 5e, but its throughput is exactly 100 Mbps. Switching to Cat 6 bumped the speed to the expected 1 Gbps.3. Reading/writing over the network (SMB) on ext4 and btrfs partitions is capped at the link speed, i.e. around 110 MB/s. However, the speed drops to 35 MB/s when accessing external USB3 SSD drive that is NTFS. What's more puzzling is that local (on-device) read/write speed for the same is over 200 MB/s.The USB/NTFS case is important if you want to use NAS for backups that you can carry around and access by re-plugging into a Windows computer.
