Tamiya 24136 1/24 1966 Model Volkswagen 1300 Beetle
About the 1966 Volkswagen 1300 BeetleEven in this age of sophistication, the popularity of the Volkswagen "Beetle" has not diminished. The original design dates back to the 1930's when Dr. Ferdinand Porsche provided the design framework for the "People's Car." Today, with more than 20 million units produced, the Volkswagen Beetle has become a symbol of mass-produced motorization, with no other vehicle exceeding this figure. Built upon the sturdy platform chassis is the amazingly reliable air cooled, flat-four cylinder engine. Suspension is four wheel independent for crisp handling and driving comfort. Although the onset of the Second World War greatly hindered Volkswagen's marketing opportunities, it made a superb comeback shortly following the conflict, under the skillful guidance of Heinrich Nordhoff. Throughout its production life, the Volkswagen was continuously improved to meet modern automobile standards. An enlarged powerplant displacement and better visibility are two of the notable changes that enabled the Beetle to set standards for the compact car market, decade after decade. The 1966 Volkswagen model is regarded as the classic Beetle, one that retains the most of the original design traits, and it has become a collector's item. Even today, more than half a century later, watching a nimble street bug is still a pleasant sight to behold, and its unmistakable shape will likely delight generations to come.

A very enjoyable build and one with great detail in a small package . The instructions are easy to follow and parts fit together well and there was no issues the assembly . I did find that putting the body on was a little more tricky and I would suggest in hindsight that it would be better to mate the body with the chassis and then add the things like the mirrors , lights etc . All in all it is a great kit of a classic car

Built this over last holidays. Great combination of chrome and gloss paint. The bumpers, lights and silver around the windows really pops! Of course, I painted mine bright yellow, as I’m a transformers tragic. It is definitely best to store the model behind glass in a case as the mirrors and fenders can be very easily bumped off and the roof shows dust and dirt quickly if left out. Consider painting the seats a lighter colour so they can be seen. Mine are dark brown and difficult to note detail without a torch. Enjoy!
The kit is a commission build to represent the car my sister and I learned to drive a manual transmission on. I am a long time lover of this car and there is no part that I haven't rubbed on my belly of this series of car.The kit is astonishing in its detail. The front suspension clip is perfectly reproduced and the steering linkage is a nice touch, The engine is waiting to be detailed, much of it is faithfully reproduced and hidden under the moveable engine cover. The Interior is well captured and the instructions offer correct colour combinations for the exterior colours. Tamiya scores big on this kit and for anybody who wants a piece of the Summer of Love, this is the Iconic car.

I love the kit. Typical Tamiya, fit and finish is superb. The engine bay is very detailed with an engine lid that hinges open to provide access to the engine. Full size spare wheel on Beetle correct rim, visible via a n opening frunk lid. I have not completed the kit yet (about 50% completed) and loving every minute of the build. Great value for money as well (the kit was less than $35-00)!
Hey guys,I’ve just started building. I will check-in once I’ve completed it.Cheers!
This is a plastic model kit in 1/24th scale. It is very carefully made, you can put it together, and paint it to your liking. however when I bid on it I didn't realize it was plastic and required gluing together and paint. I was expecting a Diecast model. I'm 77 years old and don't see well enough to do this, but I have a grandson who will be able to do this.
This is one of the best kits of the earlier VW Bug. Very simple build and very accurate in detail ! I had to buy two of the kits, as my first was to be used as a donor kit for a bestmodelcarparts resin 1949 convertible conversion, this is just too nice of a kit not to build as they come, so I bought the second to build box stock as it deserves to be built. I will now buy other Tamiya kits because they are so nice ! I have now found Tamiya kits are as great of quality as their paints and all other very fine products for the modeling hobby. I highly recommend all Tamiya products. As a retired 50+ year auto painter I find the Tamiya paints the very best also Gary Jackson
