The 20mm F/2.8 Di III OSD M1:2 (Model F050) is fast handling and packs expressive power that is the signature of fixed focal lenses. It's the ideal first ultra wide-angle lens for any photographer. It is designed exclusively for mirrorless cameras. Light weight and compact, the Model F050 is extremely portable, ideal for situations where you need to travel light. The Model F050 is a creative tool that dynamically captures scenery by maximizing the perspective unique to ultra wide-angle lenses. The incredibly short 0.11m (4.3 in) MOD (Minimum Object Distance) makes it possible to get closer to your subjects than you'd ever imagined. In addition to the F/2.8 aperture, the Model F050 is constructed using special glass materials including LD (Low Dispersion) and GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lens elements effectively arranged to quash aberrations. The Model F050 provides outstanding optical performance across the entire frame, and delivers a sharp image, right down to the texture of the subject. With Moisture-Resistant Construction and dirt-resistant Fluorine Coating, photographers can shoot confidently outdoors. If you can own only one ultra wide-angle, the Model F050 should be your first choice.

Budget priced, but quality wide-angle from Tamron

Haven't had a chance to use this extensively yet, but this Tamron lens, as well as another one I've purchased recently (a long zoom), seem to be quite well-made and yet are very reasonably priced. Since I'm just a once-in-a-while photographer with asperations of catching a good shot here and there, I certainly don't need the higher-priced brand. The feel of the Tamron is light, but still solid. My Sony DSLR focused quickly with it, so no noticeable lag to me. Again, I'm happy with the purchase (and so is my bank account).

Crazy lens for $300!

This lens is absolutely amazing for the dollar! Four me, a landscape photographer, this is the ideal lens. I've had it out a dozen times or so with universally great results. The af is really slow so probably not for street photographers. The focus ring is a tiny bit grainy feeling when you turn it. Which is my only reservation and the reason for 4 stars. I still haven't used it for astro work yet so no coma determination. I will come back and report when I have though. I'm not sure I could ever justify the 3x more expensive sony f1.8 though astro tests will tell.

First day impressions--Good: (mounted on an A7) Small, very lightweight, good design and form factor, clever hood, good build quality for the price. Seems sharp at center across all f-stops. Neutral contrast. So far I don't see any CA to speak of. Has a nice wide look to itBad: Compared to Zeiss or Voightlander I'm seeing some uneven barrel distortion, pronounced but narrow vignetting right up through F4 but... I see some of that at these focal lengths no matter the cost, somewhat sluggish auto focus. Conclusions: At a fraction of the weight, size and price and for my intended use for this lens --which includes post-production corrections. I'm keeping it and will leave it on the camera. For me --the good far outweigh the bad.

Great Lens for Landscape & Time Exposure photos
20 April 2021

I'm using this lens on a Sony A7R II and A7R IV and it works fine for landscapes using AF and manual focus for time exposure shots (selecting the manual mode inside the camera since there is no switch on the lens) both producing very good images. If your shooting still photos the lens makes some noise when auto-focusing but locks on very quickly without any hunting when photographing stationary scenes. The lens functions a lot like my older style Nikkor 20mm AF-D 2.8 lens, but is not as rugged, and makes a similar sound when focusing. Lots of people are complaining about auto focusing and the associated noise of this lens, but they are shooting videos, usually of moving subjects, and this lens does make some noise that is picked up by the recording camera when ... MoreI'm using this lens on a Sony A7R II and A7R IV and it works fine for landscapes using AF and manual focus for time exposure shots (selecting the manual mode inside the camera since there is no switch on the lens) both producing very good images. But, for landscape, time exposure, and Milky Way photos it performs just as needed for my requirements.

Great addition to my gear!
15 May 2023

The Tamron 20mm F/2.8 lens is fantastic! It's compact, lightweight, and delivers exceptional image quality. With a fast aperture and versatile focal length, it's perfect for a wide range of photography genres. Highly recommended for Sony E-Mount users.

Great for the average person
1 March 2023

Great budget lens. Suggest its a photographers lens. Its noisy when recording so you would want a truly off camera mic, like a few good feet away if using for video or YouTube etc Yeah its not the worlds best lens but its plenty good enough unless you are charging 100s for your work. But for the scenic walk of holiday its ideal. Light and compact. Get a filter on it though as due to the design itll get full of dust.

Heavy Breather
23 January 2023

I've been a Tamron fan for years using with the Sony Alpha cameras. This lens is light weight and great on a gimbal. It's also very affordable. The downside, it's a heavy breather in auto focus. I didn't have the budget for a better lens, and in the past Tamron has come thru both in budget and quality, but I'm not happy with this one.

Sadly, the starbursts on this lens are poor. Even at f/16 the rays are too splayed out and distract from the photograph.I highly recommend this lens, but watch out for poor light-bursts.

Pleasantly surprised.
8 February 2020

I’m pleasantly surprised. I pre-ordered this as I needed an ultra wide lens and figured for the price it was hard to go wrong. It’s actually quite sharp and renders nicely. Focus isn’t perfect, but it’s better than any adapted lens I’ve used on the Sony format. Yes, if using this for video the focus motor is a bit loud. I primarily shoot stills so I don’t have that concern. The coma is fairly well controlled and not at all noticeable unless extreme pixel peeping.I wish it was an f/2, but it’s way better than an f4. I think it’s a great bargain and really a nice performer.

absolutely amazing.
20 March 2020

Took this with me on a 3 week multi city trip thru Spain, Portugal, London, and France. I paired this with the amazing Tamron 28-75 2.8 for a lightweight combo, and this lens almost never got taken off my camera. Lightweight and super sharp. Autofocus isn't super fast, but I was shooting mostly landscape and architecture. Distortion is pretty severe, but the in camera corrections do a very good job of fixing it, and the rest can be done in post. I absolutely love this lens. I sold my Batis 18mm f2.8 for this, and while I cried at first, I am no longer missing it...and I have an extra thousand bucks in my pocket. Can't speak about video as I strictly do photos. From a photography standpoint, 10 out of 10.
