Taylor 812ce Grand Concert
OVERVIEW 812ce (2020) Taylor’s rosewood/spruce Grand Concert is all about articulation and intimacy, and with its newly added radius-style rosewood armrest, the playing experience is more refined than ever. It’s a fingerstyle favorite for its balanced and focused response, now enhanced by the tone-boosting power of V-Class bracing. The revoicing of the 800 Series has brought out extra midrange warmth in this body shape, while the bracing design adds projection and sustain, making this a surprisingly punchy guitar for its compact, player-friendly size. A Venetian cutaway offers easy access to the upper register, while Taylor Expression System 2 electronics serve up exceptional amplified tone. Premium appointments include maple binding and back strip, rosewood top edge trim, smoked nickel tuners, and a rosewood pickguard.

Great sound. Very comfortable size for me. Thought the "12 fret" layout would feel different but it does not. Seems to stay tuned longer than my other guitars. Simply wonderful.

I bought my Taylor at my local music store. I believe in shopping locally and I appreciate the relationship with the management and employees. There’s nothing like a local store for service and support.I really am enjoying my Taylor. I’m a finger picker so chose the 12 fret the sound is wonderful and the playability superb.

I've waited quite some time before writing this review as I wanted to base it on sufficient experience. I bought this guitar in Sept 2021 (6 months ago...). Acoustically it is gorgeous. Its plays and sounds incredible. I was planning to gig with it regularly but that became problematic. When I plug it in it has two problems. The output signal is very weak even at full volume. I have another guitar with a K&K puremini pickup (which is passive) and it has WAY more signal than the Taylor with the ES2. The second problem is that it sounds very harsh....not natural at all. I have adjusted the pickups per Taylor's instructions and it did not fix either problem. I can adjust the parametric EQ on our board and improve the sound somewhat, but it is still less than ... I called Taylor and they didn't seem to be interested in helping beyond telling me how to adjust the pickups.... very disappointing. I am not the only one that has had this experience. If you google it (or search on YouTube) you'll find plenty of people that have had the same problem with the Taylor Expression 2 System. After spending this much money I had much higher expectations. I now have to spend even more money to buy an after market pickup and have it installed.

The size of the body and fret board is perfect for me. It looks wonderful...very classy!I feel the action is not quite right for me but I can't seem to adjust it correctly. But it truly is a wonderful guitar.'I agree with many reviews that say it is better for finger pickers. Also, there is much talk of the new V bracing. My untrained ear cannot really pick up the difference. Sorry!
My new Taylor 812ce is amazing! From the almost never ending sustain, to the deep rich tone, to the incredible intonation, this guitar is so fulfilling and pleasing to play. It’s beautiful to look at too. I’m not a big guy. This body size for me is perfect. It is very comfortable to play, especially with the bevel. I mostly play finger style (I’m a pastor and play mostly hymns and Christian songs). For me, this scale length makes it easier to navigate the fretboard. This guitar has plenty of volume too. The V-class bracing is really amazing. Great job Andy! I would totally recommend the Taylor 812ce.
Best guitar I've ever owned, and I've owned more than a few! 12-Fret/V-Brace design projects much better than I imagined. Excellent intonation up and down the neck. This is the most comfortable instrument I have played and find myself losing time during longer sessions.Thank you Taylor Guitars for all your efforts to advance the art of building of acoustic guitars.
I owned a 314L30ce and sold it.Went to McPherson, Goodall, Martins. I own themNow I am into parlours sizesbut I am back to the 812ce with the small body and great neck. It’s fantastic!!
Great feeling, easy to play, and very high quality guitar. Taylor makes a wide variety of guitars in different sizes, woods, and tones. This 812ce 12-Fret is the perfect fit for me.
This is a beautiful guitar and sounds great. I learned on classical guitars and play on nylon crossover guitars so I was curious about the 12 fret version. The 12 fret with the already slightly smaller scale length of the grand concert makes this a very playable guitar. It has deeper sounds compared to the normal 14 fret version. It's a very short neck which makes it very comfortable. The highest you can capo this would be at the 7th or 8th fret. I play finger style and strum without a pick. I've played this plugged in at gigs and it sounds great.
This guitar was bought to replace a 1994 Taylor 812C which is also a great instrument. There were several reasons for the switch. 1) The 1994 is a 14 fret model with a 25.5" scale length while this guitar has a 12 fret neck with a 24.75" scale length. As a person with very small hands, the increased comfort and playability are substantial. 2) The 1994 has no electronics 3) The new 800 series bracing pattern (since 2015) and different 12 fret bridge position give this guitar a very warm and balanced sound. I bought (and returned) a new Taylor 712 which, by comparison, sounded thin with a weak bass. Check out a video from Gryphon Stringed Instruments which compares this guitar to a Taylor 512C and a comparable Martin and Santa Cruz. The difference in sound is striking ...
